This book is based on a story by Sheli Elkayam called "when the mouse and snake met". In 1998 an organization called "Midreshet Adam" used this book in elementary school workshops. Children were asked to write their own version if the story with a new ending. Gilad's is not very creative- it's a replica of the original story using different animals.

When "kidnapped" Gilad was a soldier sitting in a base in an occupied land. I hope he comes home, but the manipulation here is disgusting.

So what if it is based on another story and that children were asked the write a story with a new ending. And as you put it, Gilad could have come up with an ending in which the shark would have eaten the fish after all. But he did not. He might not have been very creative by replacing the animals; it shows how he is.
