Dr Know got me into guitar like almost no-one else. Very telling quote from Rolling Stone: "the Brains inspire as many people to pick up instruments as lay them down in frustration". ;)
And now here I am 4 years later doing a degree in contempory music - THANKYOU BAD BRAINS!!!!!!!!
I was going to gush about the good Dr's groundtearing skills, but then Darryl's bass playing provides the concrete on which he walks...I guess what I'm saying is the Bad Brains, the best rock n roll band ever, not a weak link in the chain.
I will post these videos very soon, i have been recording like crazy, i want to share some of the coolest skills straight from those who live it real not wannabes, very few people understand that these days, its why the Doc is under rated,
Hey tring920, i got 4 songs pinged for videos so people can learn them, maybe Doc would think its just another way of doing them, i remember he always sort of improved the way he plays the same songs, ill post them in a month the most, just trying to sort of make them look easy to understand.
Great little video! What exactly is it for though? Are you making an instructional video? It's ridiculous that you can't walk into a guitar store and buy a tab book for "I Against I" (or any other other of their albums), or find them on the cover of some guitar magazine.
Exactly bro, you can not find Bad Brains in any mainstream outlet, and like many Black artists who started something new the very people who think they sound as good as the Bad Brains are far from the truth.
So what i did is made a set of instructional videos which show off Doctor Knows stuff.
I've read that it's a strat made from ESP parts with a Dimarzio Tone Zone. That guitar has been with him in some form or another since the early 80's, and he still plays it today. He also plays a Tom Anderson strat on the reggae songs. Also in this video is a Sadowsky strat that was used on "Quickness", and a gold Gibson U2 that was also used on that album/tour for the reggae songs.
It's a Sadowski Strat....Made for Doc by Roger Sadowsky...He's been playing them for a long time..some are midi so he can get those really wild sounds.
