When I was looking to download this song on iTunes, I found it was labeled on many albums as the Pas de Deux and as between the Prince and the Sugar Plum Fairy (Fée Dragée). I know it's not seen as a reliable source, but Wikipedia says this, too.

The mouse king's scene mainly scared me (yet saddened me) as a kid. Ever since I first saw Mickey Mouse on TV when I was little, I had a heart for mice (be it good or bad) and the king here...well, I feel really bad for him here. And it would've made me glad if Clara at least grabbed him to prevent his falling. Also, Clara's decision to grow up resulting in all toys to lose their magical living essence was most heartbreaking, too.

The soviet cartoon version is no comparison better!!! For once, it is less violent. There the correspondence between the scenes and music is brilliant. There are no voices, however everything is clear from the music and the animation; the dialogues are obsolete. This particular movement in this cartoon sounds too slow to me, it is perfect in the Soviet version (I may be biased on that).

I think klara is the sugar plum fairy and if she stay's all the dolls would stay alive and they would live for ever in the land of the dolls. But she doesn't want to stay so everything turns back like it was before, like in 'the real world'. All the dolls turn back in dolls and the land of the dolls slowly fades away. I think that's what happened in this scene...
