This song was written by George Cates, who later was music director of the Lawrence Welk TV show also alternately led Welk's band on TV. George Cates had a huge hit song of "Moonglow & Theme from Picnic" in 1956 on Coral, which was Decca's subsidiary label.
The history of U.S. Decca Records is quite fascinating in itself. Cheers!
@lrh1966 Ya got me there! Sounds interesting. Wiki and other sources on line have George Cates bios. Amazing guy. Another amazing person with the Decca group was George Dunning. He scored the movie "Picnic." And so the title music to "Picnic" was his. Wowser, those were amazing days. The "Picnic" soundtrack album send chills down my spine. If you listen to it, you will hear additional Dunning incidental music used by Columbia Pictures. The "Full of Life" movie theme is in the beginning.
I might try to find the actual movie on DVD, and enjoy both the movie, and the music on it. I have heard about the movie for many years, but do not remember watching it. This sounds like it might be a good DVD movie to get?...Friends, Lloyd.
@lrh1966 Lloyd, I watched that movie short here on YouTube. Just search for it. Has full credits. Recall seeing good old Leslie Carey's sound credit on it. :) I'm going through YouTube now to find that for you. When I do, I'll write you here. :)
Thank you, and that would be great. I do enjoy old musical movies from the 1930's to the 60's(when I get time to watch them). They just don't seem to put quality, and care into movies like that anymore...Friends, Lloyd.
@lrh1966 I used to go downtown here and watch a $1 movie. And also some $1 theaters in the nearby suburbs. Now I try to get movies on VHS. VHS is a nearly bulletproof medium. Tape might snarl or jam. Even then, you can open up the housing and unsnarl the tape. DVDs are subject to not wanting to run at all, no matter how high a resolution player you have. Not at all a reliable format. Soon as I get a DVD, I transfer it to VHS and give the DVD away. The only DVDs I run are compilations.
You are right, one little scratch and they are almost useless. Other than VHS, videos can also be stored on the computer hard drive, but should be backed up on more than one hard drive if one of them crashes. The mediums are always changing and evolving...Friends, Lloyd.
@lrh1966 I have downloaded one compressed movie, "Lady in the Dark" on the internet to flashdrive. It plays quite well. Just a bit out of lipsynch, which is typical when movies are compressed. But otherwise good pictures and sound quality.
Compressed video is good on a small screen like on a very small laptop, but it is better not to compress the video if you want to watch on a large computer, or TV screen...Friends, Lloyd.
@lrh1966 Glad you mentioned that. Thanks. Compressed video looks so nice and sharp on the computer screen here. It was just handy to have that movie I mentioned on flashdrive. We have a small screen analog TV downstairs. And are happy with that. No cable.

Lloyd is really wonderful, I did not know this recording of Lawrence Welk, it would be interesting to buy a copy on Amazon if any, thanks for rescuing so beautiful musical treasures.
This song was used as the intro. music to Lawrence Welk's show. The 1960 Dodges would appear, driving through the desert (towards Palm Springs, I'd assume) as Jerry Burke's Hammond organ would appear in the recording. This brings me back to my boyhood in blue-collar Polish Roman Catholic New Jersey of 1960.
That is what makes this vintage music archiving special to my heart, when I am able to help someone relive a moment in their past...Thank you for checking it out!!...friends always, Lloyd.
This was also used as Welk's opening theme (replacing "Bubbles in the Wine") when his series went into syndication in the fall of 1971.

Did George Cates also work with Henry Mancini? For some reason, his name came to mind when I seen you mention it...Friends, Lloyd.
