  • I used to have that exact problem in the beginning. I took my 3gs out of the phone's case, held it up against the windshield for several minutes and drove around the neighborhood, and it fixed itself. Since then, I haven't had any problems. Whenever I load the app, for a second it may say there is poor gps signal, but it will fix itself immediately. Good luck.

  • whats the name of the app ?????

  • can anyone tell me where can i buy that blue iphone case?..

  • what kind of case were you using????

    reply back plez!!!!

  • Dude! Slow down! Is someone chasing you, or what?

Point to whereyou want to point to, and stop with the constantly twitching finger.

    Maybe try decaf.

    Good presentation otherwise.

  • Get Navigon unless you have an external gps/car kit. Navigon calculates the gps latency since the iphone has a poor gps chip in it, while TomTom does not. This causes TomTom to be about 5-6 seconds behind your actual location and speed, often resulting in unusable navigation.

If you do grab a TomTom car kit, the software is spot on :)

  • warning: this app has some old maps, it can't find my house that was built 2 years ago. no major inconvenience

  • it works in airport mode so it works whether 3g or not and NO you do not have to have internet connection. It's satellite. No one really rides around with internet in their car...lol

  • how can use the phone when u r on the road and using the tomtom?!

  • wich one is the best please reply im buying a iphone 4 tomorow or monday plssss respond

  • Why does it cost so much

  • omg, why is your finger moving so much! it's like it has a spasm or something. haha.

  • ppl...whats the best GPS app for iphone 3g HONESTLY,,,,,

  • Man you are 100 word per second!! Wow just hold up!!

  • I notice on your review whilst on a route the iPhone still has time of day, battery and signal indicators at the top but when I'm using the tomtom app mine are not there???

  • @WindTouzoku7

I did the exact same thing, I skipped the 3gs update from my 3g, thinking the 4G much more worth the upgrade

Lots of ppl viewing this vid don't have the cash money to purchase new iPhone, since it will be close to $500

Your in luck I learned on the Apple FB Fan Page last week they are giving away a ton of iPhone 4gs. Also, heres the link to their iPhone 4g giveaway webpage ... just copy and paste

    way。com/iphone4gfree40

And the code for the last page is FACEBOOK1273

  • why does the iphone has to be in airplane mode ???

  • can i use tomtom without 3G network or wifi because most of the GPS need internet connection to work

  • @knighthandsome TomTom is functional without a data connection.

  • @wwwinsanelygreatmac wow r u serious? I didnt know that yeah I'm going to install it, I couldn't for some reason install Tomtom before but now on 4.0 I don't think it will be a problem, I just didnt had room but now I do so thats good thanx I will download it today its free anyways

  • @wwwinsanelygreatmac does tom tom use any kind of internet service while on the road being used or gps signal has nothing to do with internet or data network?mine keeps saying poor gps signal -any settings to revise please u may know of

  • @knighthandsome if look closely at the video, you'll notice that he has iphone in airplane mode and it's still finding routes and POIs which suggests that the maps and locations are preloaded with the app.

  • @knighthandsome yes you dont need data connecton

  • what case you have on your iphone?

  • does it need data plan or it will work as regular gps !!!!

  • Does it work on the Iphone 50GS? I am being serious, i come from 2067. Please response sensibly.

  • lol power went from 91 percent to 83...in 6mins. The iphone has to be plugged in and then it gets real hot...gps on the iphone is really just for emergency and low level use. I got a real tomtom...much better.

  • since its pre-loaded map you can use without service

  • Does anyone know if this app will work when the Iphone has no coverage/service?

  • @yqjpjcw Yes

  • @yqjpjcw a dude from here told me it doesnt need an internet connection but I have to download the app and see for myself, if u don't have jailbroken iphone then I don't recommend it since this app is $90 on appstore and $50 for USA only which I think its insane

  • Does anyone know if the app will work if the iphone has no service/coverage

  • if u cancel ur phone plan will it still work? just like an normal gps device?

  • @ruckman2k9 yeah... it will still work cause it just uses de GPS chipset of your Iphone ok ? Later

  • do u need wifi for this app to work

  • no u dont

  • its an i phone u have to have a data plan

  • @respected84 is that a serious question?

  • @respected84 dumb ass..u asked if u need wifi for the app.. do u know wat wifi means?? yes u need internet which is the data plan so dont call me fkkin stupid if u dont know wat the fkk ur talkin bout

  • xtrueballerx u know if u or ur wife bought the app u dont have to buy it again just log into whoever bought the app in itunes acct on ur phone and download it for any ipod or iphone u own the app u can download it as many times as u want

  • nice

  • Say route properly!!! ahh it drives me crazy.

    nice intesting review.

  • with this app costing so much, you might as well get a dedicated device. the graphics looks cleaner on the iphone than the dedicated tomtom

  • @bestSVMS It's half off right now lol... just bought it. It's awesome and worth it. Now I don't have to buy a dedicated device.

  • @xtrueballerx

its what 60$ now? still not worth it if you ask me, you gotta buy charger, stand, other stuff. You could get a ded for 100$, you dont need to take it out everytime you leave.

  • True... but I like to have less devices in my car. The reason why I bought the app is because my wife has an iphone 3GS as well and we both share the price. Basically if you split the cost... $25 on each phone versus $200+ for two dedicated devices.

  • Cool app ! :D .. can i find the map of UAE? is it updated? .. and does the app provide a voice guide too during the trip or not?

  • Does this app support Ipod touch 3g?? Thanks

  • na only iphones cuz iphones have built in gps chips

  • okay, thankyou

  • @Goob3000: 3g refers to wirelss broadband data connection which no iPod touch currently has. But in answer to your question about iPod touch compatibility, the TomTom DOES support this device, however you must purchase the separate iPod Touch car kit to use it since it does not contain a built in GPS like the iPhone. The information is available on the TomTom website

  • Cheers. Ill probs just save up for the iphone lol

  • this app works better than i expected in the car (without the car kit). i just tried it yesterday and it works great

  • Is there a difference between the 49.99 one and 69.99 minus the (Canada). Alot of people are saying the cheaper version is missing things.

  • @TinManl: I work with TomTom on this and the only difference is the maps with the $49.99 version being US only

  • does the tomtom gps app use wifi?

or does it just use satelite

  • @HoboTrap: The TomTom app does NOT require wifi or data connectivity since the map is entirely loaded on the device. It functions of the GPS instead.

  • it does work on an ipod touch but you will need the car kid

  • @bigboistuna101

I dont think your reply is correct. Tom Tom car kit is nothing more than a car holder and charger. It (car kit)does not have GPS chip build in it nor it has GPS booster build in it. The Iphone or 3rd gen I touch have GPS chip build in it so all you need is the tom tom application to make it work. The car kit is nothing more than to hold your iphone and to charge on the go.

  • There is a kit specifically for the iPod touch that does have a GPS chip.

  • @shekharonmail2007

I work with TomTom, and this is not actually the case. Both the iPhone and iPod Car Kits do include a GPS chip in addition to a number of other features above what you mentioned. The iPhone 3G/3GS are the only devices with a built in chip, however, those also benefit form enhanced reception with the car kit.

2G iPhone and iPod Touch users will need the appropriate car kit in order for to get GPS reception.

  • But it takes add my iphone in Japan, will not start add ... I was!!

  • I hae this app. It works quite well. I want to buy the carkit, but when i saw the price.. 100 euro ( 130$) :S thats not right..

  • Will somebody please re-CRACK this tom tom USA app so I dont have to pay 100 dollars for it

  • does it work on an ipod touch??

  • nope ipod touch is gonna need wifi and i dnt think u can have wifi everywhere u go

  • this is really cool but 100 bucks is just too much. I'm happy with the GPS that comes with the phone thank you

  • does it work for OS 3.1.2?

  • of course it does

  • does it update on the go with traffic reports

  • Does anyone know if this can be used on the water? Will it show where I am if I'm off the coast 60 miles?

  • hey u know how u have the weather app already in the iphone if u open it will it cost u if u dont have a data plan?

  • and look up at the battery in top right corner it drains like 10% of battery in 10 minutes

  • usually why when using a gps app you use an ac power charger for your phone

  • omg wow i ddidnt even realize that hes actually on airplane mode too, which means his phone isn't recieving any bytes just a shitty battery

  • Are there going to be any updates maybe with some more features thanks in advance

  • Great review Mike.

  • Navigon

  • Navigon's routing logic is awful. It's only accurate if you're sticking to interstate highways. I love how it directs me off a highway, only to direct me back onto it at the same exit. Weird.

  • i'm only going by what other people is saying about both of them i really like TomTom but Navigon is cheaper looks better and from what i can see from the 1114 ratings vs TomTom 571 it's like Kobe vs Lebron i don't like Kobe but i got to go with him. (Navigon)

  • sounds like you rather this one than Naigon

  • I liked Navigon's maps, but didn't really care for the heads up display. I found it a little frustrating. I'll be doing a fresh look at i when 1.2 comes out shortly.

Also, Friday I plan to post a shootout comparing all four apps I've reviewed.

  • Good review, but I'm still missing a good live test. Basically, I want to see how the gps works on the road as well as what happens when you are called.

  • Me to only one i know that has that feature is Navigon (phone call)

  • It works fine. They all are pretty comparable. I had no real issues other than some GPS freakouts, but that's rare and across the board.

  • Just a bit over priced

  • the use the ''other'' app store ;)

  • lol
