The difference is that Germany has a whole professional industry of A-grade voice dubbing actors and the people who work in the business really care about the results.

In America they spend about 10 cents on untalented translators who can't translate and voice actors who can't act and nobody cares how crappy the results are.

The exception would be the last couple of Miyazaki films. But I can't remember a single live action film successfully dubbed into English from any language.

I realize this is a a voice over, but since the subject is being talked about, I cannot stand dubbed movies. I'd rather have subtitles, even if they have language barriers by not being able to properly convey some words. Dubbing is just too lame, kills the entire mood.

Totally agree, however I think that subtitles do not have any language barriers. The main problem with dubbing, even when done well it that they have to map the voice to mouth movements on screen. If the translation is a sentence, but the mouth only makes two shapes, what can you do?
