My Hofner President (1958) has a neck like a telegraph pole, and an action you could drive a 'bus under. Very hard to play. Because it doesn't have a truss rod, there's no way to lower the action either. But with good strings the tone is superb... Just difficult to play!
i saw a hofner in a shop a few years ago for like 200 eus, i didnt buy it cause i didnt know if i wanted to restore it..... it was a big misake the guitar was gone the next day...
20 years ago, i bought asimilar model in a very bad cond' for a rebuilding project.job not complete yet, but seeing this video, realizing it is a great guitar, i think my project will now come alive' thanks to you.
I have a hofner that was made between 1960-62... very similar. Mine has a hofner humbucker pickup at the neck and the control board is a volume knob with 3 tone switchs (bass on/off, treble on/off, and lead/rythm. Yours is in pristine condition compared to mine and I had it appraised at $900-1500 US... so yurs is pro'lly worth like 2 grand or more
Nice playing, I have recently restrung my Hofner, but seems really hard to tune.

@dass0137 Not sure what it is, but with new strings it helps for a while.

Some of the bright harp like sound is because this excellent player is plucking the strings with his fingernails, giving it a "ching" sound.

Normally i'm more of a sucker for darker sounding archtops, but for such a bright guitar, it sounds very sweet. A nice find :]
Nice playing, enjoyed it very much
