I really hope they resolve that cliffhanger before diving into new stories. I'm sure I'll be impressed either way, but it'd be such a shame to just write off those first 3 episodes as an inconsequential introduction to the characters.
As I was watching that first episode, all I could think of was; OH MY GOD! Despite the 100 year time-setting difference, they are UNBELIEVABLY faithful to the stories, albeit with slight, humourous twists like Rache - Rachel and a psychosematic limp as opposed to a real one. I would love to see 'The Speckled Band' done the modern way.
i totally started reading the stories and i must say, the amount of details used in the show are staggering! flipped, yes, but still those details, like "Rache" in the stories WAS for revenge, while in the show it was "Rachel" -- and John's phone in the show versus the watch in the stories, but both showed the alcoholic sibling ... just so brilliant, clever and awesome :D
I am an American who discovered Steven Moffat after seeing the "Blink" episode of Doctor Who and thinking that it was the best written and acted show that i had ever seen. Now this genius has taken my favorite detective into the 21rst century and once again has brilliantly scripted characters brought to life by excellent actors. Moffat and Sherlock are icons who belong together and we are all the better for that.
@PerlaB4 My dear fellow. Please, please go to the Library and request "A Study in Scarlet", the first time the brilliant Sir Arthur Conan Doyle introduced to Sherlock Holmes, the world's only consulting detective. The character of Holmes was actually based on one of Doyle's professors. Holmes does more than solve crimes, he is the last line of defense, and his clients range over three continents. He observes and makes logical deductions and can identify a man's profession from his hands. Read!
@lewisbell He sure would have. I like Matt, I still prefer David but I honestly believe if Benedict had been cast as the Doctor, I'd have liked him just as much as David. Matt doesn't come close, for me.
I'm sure that Moffat's life has ramped up in a huge way over the last 18 months. I'm really curious to hear what he thinks about the impact his employment has had on his life. Yeah, I know it's an aspect of entertainment that's prolly not very interesting to other people... but I do wonder
idk why, [dont mind my comment too much]] but british people sometimes come across as rude to me
like, i love the Sherlock series but i think too much comedy and whatnot plays on people being rude to others [take how mrs. hudson is sometimes ignored or yelled at per se]]
@PirrowChan That's not typical of British people. Sherlock is obviously meant to be a rude character, he shuts off all emotions and basic manners. When the police are on a murder case, involving the possibility of several bombings, they don't have the time to stop and listen to Mrs. Hudson's old stories. And John is just annoyed and worn out by Sherlock, making him sometimes act ruder than he normally would.
@PirrowChan@PirrowChan You're comparing Sherlock Holmes, a fictional character, to all British people & then coming to the conclusion that because Sherlock Holmes behaves rudely, we're rude? There are and always will be rude people from every walk of life, and to a degree every single person will have elements of rudeness within them, but please, what you just said wasn't even stereotypical, it was just silly & actually, if ever there was a contradiction - quite rude.
benedict's name is lovely and unique. he is also incredibly talented and handsome. i don't see these "flaws" that everybody is pointing out.

Is Benedict cumerbatch the best Sherlock or what? Same with Martin Freeman. Ah this series is just so satisfying! Makes you a believer again.
I would like to believe Moffat won't disappoint in the next season.

@kaykarmacrystal what. I think Jeremy Brett is the best Sherlock Holmes actually. And the Russian SH is wonderful too <3

To make another series of just three episodes would be criminal. At least make it six in Series Two, it's proven to be a success.

Benedict was originally cast to replace David Tennent in DW, so I guess Moffat wanted him pretty badly, he would have made a brilliand Doctor
