I like Paul Gilbert. Although he can't play it with the same feel as the original composer, Eddie. I found the same thing with jake e. lee (favorite of all time) when he plays Randy Rhoads
I wonder how PG works songs, does he learn a bunch of songs or does he just practice alot and try to remember a setlist of songs.
I know a lot of people have a bad habit of playing the same freaking song. but i tend to only learn parts of songs example 1: instead of learning the very cliched shred crap from van halen i only learned the tapping or if a song was too hard for me, i know that little wing was impossible for me when i started so i only learned the solo, wonder how other guitar do it
@WWFinurhouse I" think he learned cool bits of a song" billy was asked the difference between vai and gilbert and he said vai don't really know songs, but Paul knows them all . i have a brother in law who technically i can cut in 2 yet, he knows a huge catalog of song and when jamming with him he can work them out in his head in seconds ,and always seems to know what the next cord is even if he has never heard the song . paul seems like that .
he plays it just as clean, and probably more clean, but he has nowhere near the stage presence that iron maiden does. hell, i can't think of any band or musician that does. they're always moving all over the place, harmonizing, doing guitar solos together etc. compared to iron maiden, paul looks like a pencil. im not trying to insult paul of course, he is insanely talented, but i stand by the statement that nobody plays iron maiden better than iron maiden.
of course, i love racer x, but they don't have the stage presence of iron maiden. they have stage presence, but iron maiden is always moving around, throwing things into the audience and creating such an epic and amazing atmosphere. plus, they play their stuff flawlessly.
taken, i know iron maiden recorded it first, it says "an all star salute to iron maiden," PG just added his talent to an already amazing song. Its a cover but it holds its own just as well, his shred isnt mindless there is melody, his guitar screams with sustain just like Dave's. Plus PG in this video is humble about the song "i learned Iron maiden song" as he smiles and introduces it not just plays it without acknowledging maiden. I get that there will be no one like them
paul is as far away from "mindless" shred as it gets. everything he does is very well thought out. i don't understand why you called it completely new because it isn't, but the argument was about stage presence, not guitar skills. paul is far superior to any single guitarist in iron maiden. iron maiden is a trio after.
