I didn't expect that. They broke a lot of rules with that scene. A man kissing a man. A white woman shaking the hand of a black man. A woman kissing a man who looks like a woman on the mouth. They got away with it?
They were one of the biggest hits of their era. They could get away with a few things that others couldn't. The fact that they were "kids" didn't hurt, either.
