Come listen to this single and more from the 70's, 80's - and now the 90's for the summer - on an Internet radio station you can listen to for free: "OffTheCharts!"

Delicious is a good word that i wouldn't have thought of... u are right. Peeps can whine "out of tune" all they want........ Like to see them do better.. DOUBT it.
Some stupid shitheads say that her voice in Live is bad, I disagree with it. A LIVE voice is the most beautiful voice and performance, you have to be an open-hearted person to appreciate real music. Stupid shits all over Youtube leaving stupid comments like shit. Great band, Great musician Tanya Donelly. Brought old good memories to us.
ahhh old school "indie rock" when ladies could sing and not whisper or yowl, tunes were paramount over over-orchestrated pretentious nonesense, and nobody tried to sound like Radiohead...
It's the same thing, but I'm an old fart who remembers when "indie" "alternative" and such labels meant an idea of making art, not a sonic/music codified genre. "Non-mainstream"?
@prinznevsky The "Non-mainstream" is quantified and marketed to as such. Your "art" never escapes the world that spawned it and money will be made from it, oh yeah money will be made.
How does she sound terrible here? She sounds great as usual -- I have seen them live several times and even singing live out on the Santa Monica Pier with the wind blowing like crazy, and not once did she ever sound terrible. Don't know what you are talking about...
@Tockyard Amen to that. Whenever I'm carrying my bass and some young girl asks me about it, it does my heart good. But some young girls think it's bizzare that a woman should be playing a guitar because these pop tarts they watch don't.
"Can't sing for toffee." I've never heard it said that way before! Anyway, she's singing from her throat and here it sounds like she's been doing it for far too long.
I was the bassist and one of the lead vocalists in a band. I had professional voice training (I.e. "Classically trained") and I sing from the diaphraghm. Believe me, there's a world of difference on the vocal cords.
Hey, I recently turned 50. Stop making fun of us "not so young" people. You will all eventually be as old as us, if you don't die first, that is. We were rocking out to great bands like Belly when you "kids" were sucking on pacifiers and crapping your diapers. I think mrblack4026 was being sarcastic.
@BassPlayerSusan , Believe me, you have no idea just how fast time will go by. I'm still wondering where my 30's went. My 40's were nothing but a blur. I knew all about getting older, I just didn't realize how fast it would happen. I may be 50 now, but I consider myself pretty hip when it comes to music!
If you like this punkish grrly type 90's stuff, there was a local Chicago grrl fronted band called the "Smoothies" "Save the Pickle" album really good Grrl Rockish stuff. If U can find the album .
Belly did "explode" and exploded bigger in terms of records sales than the Pixies. The music "business" is a complex, fickle thing that has little to do with art and artistry.
Or more along the lines of the fact that Kim Deal was a hipster's wet dream, but based on anything substantial, very replaceable. You couldn't fill in for Black Francis any more than you could Donnelly. That's the difference. There was nothing cool to be had from liking a Belly album - It remained a Walkman's dirty secret. Not saying Gigantic wasn't great... but come on.
Ahh crap.. had I realized I was responding to an uber Pixies fan -- specifically an anti-Chuck pro-Deal Pixies diehard and not just a neutraly biased music fan I wouldn't have responded. I am now taking the pre-emptive foot-in-mouth stance.
My dad is 60 and over the past few years he's gotten me onto more classic rock (I grew up in the 90s). But my dad also likes Arcade Fire, Snow Patrol, The Decemberists, Pearl Jam, Sufjan Stevens, etc! He simply thinks that great music can belong in any era!
Pretty hip when it comes to music, eh? How 'bout them Paul Anka, Neil Sedaka, etc!
@BassPlayerSusan , Paul Anka? Neil Sedaka? How old do you think I am? I'm 50, not 70! Yeah, I have great taste in music. Check out my profile. It's only a small fraction of the artists I like. Too many to list here or there. Your Dad's right. Age really has nothing to do with having good taste in music. I've been seeking out and buying new music since 1972. Seeking out meaning discovering great non- mainstream artists. I hate about 95% of "popular" music. Without music, life would suck!
Per my Neil Sedaka comment, check out "SCTV Neil Sedaka". I couldn't link to the clip, but it's one of those "He Blowed Up Real Good" sketches. I'm to young to remember "SCTV" (I was born in 1977) but some of that stuff was ingenious!
Having seen all his videos, I think that in her "red hair" phase she was still looking for the better way (and better vocal shape) to perform her song. In her "curly blonde hair" videos, after touring, you can easily notice that her voice has become more stronger and confident. Anyway, I love her!
Maybe it means that the show doesnt own them/her.... who knows.. I guess writing was the cool thing then with Eddie writing on his arm during the unplugged as well. That should come back in style but first THIS MUSIC should come back! Oh how I miss it :o(
There's another vid on Youtube with her on bass. I think it's of "Gepetto". I assume she was just filling i- in the early stages of Belly. Leslie never actually appeared on any Belly recordings, did she?
