I remember another bug from the older versions of Doom - the "nearly bottomless" pit. It could be observed in E3M3 after the burning red room. Sometimes you would fall into the small pit for a long time, and when you press the switch to raise the platform the game would crash.

Nightmare was added later as a joke. Romero thought it would be completely impossible. Of course people have proven that wrong.

interesting find, didn't know that first version of Doom was that bugged (the first version i played was 1.2 or 1.1)
