Hey, I've had the 2488 for a year and am still learning about it all. I was just recording a bass track, took a break, and my cat probably walked on it like she often does when I'm not looking. Now my piano track is only coming through right speaker and my bass only through left speaker. Luckily my vocals and drums are still coming through left and right. Do you have any clue what I can do to fix that?
Can anyone tell me how to remove the plastic covers on the xlr connections A-D. There is nothing in the manual and it looks like it uses a special key to get them off. Tascam support is ou till Tuesday and I need to record vocals. .Thanks in advance.
@ProAudioDVDsHey, When im done recording and i hit the mixdown/mastering button (i have the neo) i hit (correct me if im wrong) the record and play buttons at the same time, then i mixdown (I dont bother to master it) the song untill the song ends. Then what do I do to get out of mixing and have it save? If i hit the Mixdown/mastering button again it wants a master or a play back. I can listen to my mix playing back there but if i exit out of that any way it wont play the mixed version. HELP!!!!
Hi, Thanks for the info on the 2488MKII. I've 12 different keyboards and modules. Can my single stereo output from my mixer which has all the 12 channels coming out simultaneously be plugged into say channel one and then assign the different instrument from that one stereo out feed of my mixer to any track I choose? It seems logical to do that instead of unplugging one synth after another to put into the 2488. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Bob F.
Hi my old Tascam M-312 just went out on me. I also, have a Tascam 2488mkii! Can I use it for just a mixer until I can get a new mixer, w/o recording? I haven't started recording alot but have done some in the past with this 2488. Can it be used just as a mixer for my 10 keyboards? Any help would be great ! I hate not being able to have my practise sessions. Thanks Bob F
hi i have the tascam 2488 mkii when u swtch it the hd light will show and the lcd it will tell that is working but there is nothing going i mean if i press any button there will be no light even if i press the menu button it will not
is there a way i can record a full band on here. like maybe 8 tracks for drums 3 for different guitars and 1 for vocals??? please answer i need to know
I'VE DONE THIS BY USING A SEPARATE MIXER FOR THE DRUMS AND SENDING A STEREO (L/R) SIGNAL TO TWO TRACKS ON THE 2488 LEAVING ME 6 TRACKS TO RECORD GTR, BSS AND VOX
This machine doesn't edit fade in and out of inserted "punch-in", producing a click and most often rendering the punch in useless. No volume automated envelopes for the mixing too. Appart from that-ok.
Does anyone know the how the sound quality differs from these units compared to computer based program such as Protools? Is there a noticable difference? I only ask because the sampling rate is a little lower on these machines. But, I still have my cassette machines and am happy to use it, though I want to get into the digital realm. I have used Protool, but don't like mixing with a mouse (it is time consuming) and would rather use faders.
I have the 2488neo. It has a lot of on-board effects, and mixdown is relatively simple. It's a little easier to edit each individual track with pro-tools as far as cutting. With the neo, what you hear is how it's recorded, which is nice. With pro tools you have to shape your sound in the mixdown/mastering phase.
man i want to buy this but afraid it will be to hard to use. i like the old school cass record them and just put back the cass and play over agin what u want. so how will u save on this?
CTROCK...I was a big fan of the simplicity of the cassettes a long time ago..but when I purchased this (I have the MK 1 not the MK ), after being initially overwhelmed, I was soon playing it like an instrument. You can even beef up your sound by cloning tracks. So it takes a bit, but once you're used to it, the advantages over those old school machines are more than apparent. I'm damned happy with mine, just make sure your headphones are state of he art for mixing purposes. I say go for it!
I was afraid too but I do NOT regret getting this unit. I DO recommend getting the dvd tutorial. I got mine from"Pro Gear" for 39 bucks and it has been helpful. This thing is GREAT and I will spend the next 5 years figuring it out but is'nt that part of the fun and excitement? I encourage you to get this and it STILL believe it has the same "feel" as the good old casette multi=track recorders. Good luck.
hey can u play a regular cd on this machine? the one i'm looking to buy is the tascam2488 no mkll what is the difference between the 2 anyway? u see people email me they music on mp3 i can download the music from mp3 on to a regular cd and i was wondering if i can take the cd put onto this machine and play the track from there i can play the guitar over it. thanks
yes the 2488 is a piece of crap, google the complaints this thing haves. half of my buttons dont work after 2 months owning it from brand new.record button does work either,,,piece of shit
it needs to be a "16 bitMONO wave file"....if udont hve any converter from stereo to mono wav files...hir..try diz....meowmultistudio google it...dwnload 4 free...after intallmnt open it add d files u wnt to convert...den set it up..for a "WAVE 16 BIT MONO FILE"...set d destination file den voila...transfer it into ur 2488..
Your vids are awesome........very very cool. I have a tascam 414 Analog...new to Multitracking. Wish you had a vid on the 414 ....Ive looked everywhere for any help & still no luck. I recorded 2 tracks ,after that Im LOST!! help....anyone?
1. Yes, you can record drums...you just need some good mics.
2. I have a DP02CD. I just purchased this. I didn't buy the NEO because I have all of the additional features as outboard gear (compression, stereo exciters etc.).
3. The Korg D3200 is probably a nicer unit for twice the price. For my purposes, the 2488MKII should work out fine.
i need to know if it's better the tascam 2488mk2 or the common pc plus an external audio card (medium-high level)? i have just to record voice...nuff thanx
can someone tell me how to change between the micx4 and the micx8 effect. if i try to get the micx8 effect i always come to the multi-effects......the micx8 effect dosn't seem to exist. can someone help me
I wouldn't buy this one I would buy the Tascam 2488 NEO. It's the new one from Tascam, it just came out. I have bought one. Really awsome and easy to handle. Look out for the Tascam 2488 neo
does anyone remember the tascam 564? was thinking about buying one on ebay. what would they be worth? and how good do you think they were or are? the 2488 sells for about $600-$800 on ebay and the 564 for less than $100
I also tried the M-Audio Profire 2626, also had to return that one because clicks and pops from out of nowhere would get recorded even though I had no system requirement issues or wiring issues. Read forums about computer based recording, some people have also experienced the same problem. Like I said, I might have to give the Tascam 2488 neo a try.
I initially went for the Korg D3200, fatal error messages would come up during the editing process, returned it. Got the HD16 two weeks ago. Really easy to use, crashed after 7 days of use, returned it. Now I'm still stuck with my old Zoom MRS 1266, awesome recorder which I have been using for 4 years now, never crashed, just truly disappointed with the HD 16. i just purchased a tascam 2488 mkii, i already tried to record some songs & its awesome, i just want your help on how can i assign the effects (like reverb, delay ect.) on each channels or instruments... tnx...
I'm trying to decide on whether to purchase this unit or the Zoom HD16CD. I know that on the Zoom, it can also double as a control surface for editing on your computer. Does this unit have this capability as well? And in anyone's opinion, which one do you think would be the better one to get? Thanks!
I am still confused, since im new at this. so you can still record your own drum track. or can you only make a drum track using a drum machine on it???
