I finally seen this last week...so disappointed with this movie..fan of the cartoon..but the acting sucked in the movie..big time..I don't know what happen...this movie irritated me so much that it was hard to get through the whole thing..The characters were totally misrepresented...other then the visuals and a couple funny parts..it was a major fail..especially with the casting..poor job..nothing like the actual characters in the cartoon.. 2/5 stars I would rate a 1 but the visuals were good

@mack1381 the earth kingdom is the largest of the nations but currently the firebenders are the strongest and most powerful. the water tribes are pretty strong and holding up and the air nomads are gone (except Aang obviously)

The Air Nomads were a powerful nation, they just didn't have an army but even still it took Sozans Comet to wipe them out. So their power can be attested for. They're nomadic in the sense that air is the element of freedom but they were big enough to still be called a nation.

@Oliiiverr precisely the point I was talking about, they don't have an army...making them people that doesn't have any established government, they don't even have a single leader to rule of all of them, each temple has its own set of monks to govern it..and lastly, up to the point the fire nation wiped them out, no one knows exactly what the air nomads can do, no one has faced them in battle up to that point.

No that's like saying shaolin monks (which is what the air nomads are based off) weren't powerful when they fought in the chinese wars because they didn't have an established army. Like I said before it took Sozans Comet to kill them which kind of gives you a measure of how powerful they are if the fire nation weren't willing to attack before Sozans Comet.

At any rate, they are no more powerful than any of the other nations since they are in balance with the other nations, so power shouldn't have been discussed.

No that's not true, a pacifist can still be powerful, for example Aang himself is a pacifist but noone would dispute the fact that he is powerful and the Air Nation is often refered to as powerful in the Avatar. Focusing on the "power" aspect of it and not the "not using it" aspect is missing the point of pacifism. And I think I disagree that the air nomads were ever referred to as 'powerful' in the show. Wise? Yes? Learned? Yes? Powerful? They are powerful, as powerful as any of the other four nations, but it's not part of their personality to discuss power.

My point had nothing to do with them being Pacifists, the Air Nation did not use their power in a confrontational way is a correct description they still used it as can be seen when Aang goes back to the Air Temple and finds all the bodies of the fire nation soldiers beside Monk Kiatsu. Of course they were referred to as powerful, remember that power doesn't necessarily relate to fighting although even then you can see with kiatsu...

No, my origial point was that they were powerful full stop. Someone then said to me their power can't be measured because of their lack of army which I replied stating Sozans Comet was needed to wipe them out which certainly proves their power. It wouldn't matter if it was contrary to their beliefs whether they considered themselves powerful (which they did), the fact is they were powerful. The phrase 'the powerful air nomads', is one that is certainly used in the Avatar.

The reason this movie suck had little to nothing to do with the differences from the series. I understand that from translating from one medium to another, changes are understood and expected. However, this movie was just poorly made. The acting, the dialogue, the pacing, the fricken' cinematography and editing were just bad. M. Night was making mistakes that they teach film students not to do. The ONLY thing that this movie got right were the set/costume/environment designs.

I am a teenager and as a child I pretty much lived for this cartoon. i have watched every single episode multiple times. I am fine with the non-asian casting as long as the actors do a good job being the characters. The problem is, so far in all the trailers they have not been doing such a great job. Even some of the plot is wrong. Like the kung fu at the beginning of this trailer... :( And have u seen Appa!? Terrible CGI. Fang cannot speak, Aang is supposed to be in a water monster. D:

So the anime is based in Asian culture. They didn't cast Asians as the characters Oh well. The characters look like they should (from what little I've seen, though I've still seen alot). Aang's actor has them big ole' eyes, and his tattoo has been fancy-fied. Zuko has the scar (though I had to really stare to see it). It could be worse. Always remember that. Case(s) in point: Batman & Robin. Street Fighter. Dragonball Evolution.

A movie / tv series based on Asian (Chinese) culture, and there aren't any Asians? I don't remember any white people in Genghis Khan's Mongol empire. This movie concept and casting is about as stupid as casting Tom Cruise in the Last Samurai. What's next? Casting Michael Douglas for a movie about the Dalai Lama?

Lol white actors is not racism; however, most of the charactors in the cartoon have tans, and definitely are not white, maybe for the exception for aang and they all know martial arts. Plus, aang has a visible blue arrow tatoo, and the aang in shymalan's cast doesn't, that's just horrible. i think shymalan is just a bad director, who doesn't observe things before he turns it into a movie.

I've been watching the series with my son and am really excited to see that the movie is coming out. The martial art forms look great too.
