@Mack488 You should give more props to SEED. It skyrocketed the popularity of Gundam and brought it back on the map when it was disappearing from the market. I admit that its sequel, DESTINY, was a flaming pile of dung, but SEED on the other hand was not.It was slightly based on the first animated series of Gundam, (1 Year War, a classic), and brought new things,making it memorable and stand out from other series. Not saying SEED is better than Wing, but both are awesome in their way.
@JVGuide I agree with you that H-related stuff aren't good, but I think that actually makes them worst than Wing. Tsukihime is an exception though, in my opinion, it is just that superior.
@Mack488 Wat? Wing was ass. The characters were shallow and the story was just a rehash of the original. It was targeted towards teenagers and children. If you watched it when you were young, and are only basing your judgement off of nostalgia, then watch Wing again as an adult. Characters don't develop and shit happens that makes no sense. The only thing that I will praise Wing for is its use of music to set the mood of the action, and the music was good. 00 S.1 was ok, but S.2 was awful.
@joji64theninja It's the same setup, but with a slight role reversal. The Federation(Earth Sphere whatever Alliance) is the overwhelming force(It was in the OG Gundam), but now they posses mobile suits at the beginning of the series. The colonies(Which have fewer resources) have some mobile suits, but not many, are being oppressed by the Feds. This is where the setting makes some sense. So the losing side creates the Gundam(s) and fight against overwhelming odds.
@joji64theninja That was just a general overview and was very shallow. There are other series that follow the same plot, but Wing was one of the first. I consider Victory to have the same setup. Seed combines Wing and OG Gundam though. People will gripe that Seed rips off OG Gundam, but it's just a throwback to the original. The same can be said about Star Trek Nemesis and Wrath of Khan. My grief over Wing isn't this though. It's the many things that don't make sense that happen in the series.
@ryunkasa meh, I thought the acting and the drama was amazing. I don't know if it was as well-portrayed/translated in English, or maybe another language that you saw it in. The internal confilcts in each of the pilots as they went through the war and whatnot was like realistic. the one line that always got to me was when Heero asks himself (in a dialogue with someone else, I can't remember who) "How many more times must I kill that child and his dog?" I don't know about you,
@joji64theninja The characters are unrealistic. I can without a doubt, say that Duo was probably the favorite character that most people had. He is the only character that the audience can really relate to, and he is the closest one to being "normal". I don't really see how each character changed from the beginning to the ending of the series. Heero is still a quiet, loner, but now he doesn't try to kill other people, Relena, or himself quite as often.
@joji64theninja Duo is the same as he was in the beginning. The same is true for Trowa and Quatre. Wu Fei does change the most out of the 5, but that's because his character was quite immature(can't find a better word right now), and learns that there is life outside of being a warrior, and stops being super sexist. Relena is pretty much the same; she is just a leader of her own country and is still a freaking weirdo.
@joji64theninja I really don't remember if there was a lot of drama, but I won't doubt that it was there. Out of curiosity, when was the last time you viewed Wing? I watched my DVD of the first few episodes recently, and I can't stand it. The only good thing is the music and the use of it to set the mood(for the action at least). The grunt mobile suits are more appealing to me than the Gundams, but that might be because of the over-saturation of the series being mainstream.
@joji64theninja Just to be clear, I'm not trying to convince people that Wing is trash(my opinion). You can feel however you please about this series. I can totally relate to liking something that everyone else thinks is garbage. The easiest way that I can describe Wing and it's popularity is, "People might thing Gundam Wing is the best Gundam series there is. Just like how people who have only have seen Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, might think it's a good Star Wars movie."

I just noticed this PV existed. It's really awesome.
The only thing that could've made it more awesome is that they showed a shooting star in the end of the video, just like on the end of the 3rd Gundam W Endless Waltz OVA. Both end with a starry sky, so having both end with a shooting star would've been perfect.

I, as a girl who appreciates gundam, can agree that there are other gundam series-es out there that depict war more realistically. Gundam Wing was more poetic, symbolic perhaps, they had that specific "slogan" going on how war itself is an endless waltz . It even attracted women to mecha too (the story that is - and the individual character stories), not just because the guys were "pretty"...(Alot of females got into gundam after Wing too o.o)
All I can think about is just Wing Zero Custom kick ass as I listen to this...

Type Moon, Leaf or Nitro+ visual novels, like Fate/Stay night, Tsukihime, Utawarerumono, Tear to Tiara, Umineko, Zanmataisei Demonbane to name a few
