I'd love to give nylgut/ gut a try for a more authentic sound, although i live in florida and the humidity could be a killer. I picture myself retuning a lot if I went with them.
I love to play fretless banjos. In my experience once I've got a tune "down pat" nothing beats them for adding some individual expression and/or improvisation. Slides are easier and more fun as well. This one is my favorite fretless to play.
Nylgut is a synthetic gut string made of nylon fibers (hence the name). It's not bothered by humidity, so it's good for all weather, but being made of twisted fiber it's less abrasion resistant than regular nylon guitar strings.
My inclination is toward flush frets so I can slide like a fretless but still see where to fret the strings.
Readers digest version: Until I'm finished and whenever I can :) But seriously, I have a deadline driven job so sometimes I have long stretches of burning the midnight oil, and when I get home I have a second job I do out of hte house.
Thank god for the Banjo, good for unwinding and relaxing. I think That's why I own four of them, five if you count the first beater I got off ebay for 80 bucks(which is now a loaner for friends who want to learn to play).
Yes, they are nylon strings, I love how they sound, although I'd love to hear how she would sound with Gut strings (probably not the best idea since I live in one of the most humid areas in the United States!).
do you make these yourself? great job if so!!!!

I've heard good things about Nylgut strings. Maybe you could give those a try.
I'm thinking of making a banjo. What are your thoughts on frets versus fretless?

Lovely sound... are they nylon strings?
I'm sure there's a gag in there about nylons all the way up to the neck...but I cant remember it now!
Nice work!
