  • lol.... you know after playing guitar for a while you get so good that you can hold it inbetween your fingers and then switch back to it when you want to use it again... im starting to be able to do this now

  • first he uses only fingers, at the end he uses a pick... just like un this video he hides the pick between his fingers ;) watch?v=iSM3FL7zUdw

  • God he is fucking horrible!

  • @joshjaccard24 lol what?

  • @joshjaccard24 that's why you clicked on the video, amirite?

  • Thumb pick maybe?

  • its stinks

  • he's not using a pick.

  • If he was using a pick and then fingers, where the hell did he place it, wow!, great solo, great groove!. OR he didnt use a pick at all?

  • @ILSAIDL Did you ever think that maybe he isn't using a pick at all in this song?

  • aside from Micheal j fox working the camera, not bad.

  • i tell you what, when i heard this song on his C.D. Battle studies i didn't like it. But now i realize that his version was meant for a live performance, the studio didn't do it justice but seeing it live is awsome. I can really see what he was trying to do with it. I am always pulling for john as a musician and his mark on music. I hope the best for him and i hope he can keep a level head and take his potential to the max. he could be a legend.

  • I'm pretty sure you guys need some counseling.Anyone who get's that spooled up over a video on the internet-someone who has absolutely no bearing on what they do or whether or not they succeed is likely in need of some serious help. Why don't you assclowns go focus on learning to play your own instrument and then record something that shows how it should be done - instead of just running the only instrument you can come close to playing-your mouth. Of course, you don't play that very well either.

  • He is amazing. And so hot. If I do say so myself.

LOVE YOU JOHN. CAN'T WAIT TO HEAR YOUR VOICE AGAIN.

  • Damn med30 - hate much? There's always one narrow minded knucklehead that couldn't even string Mayer's guitar that want's to chime up and hate...just for the sake of hating. The guy can play...period. @med30

  • damn I hate this guy

  • This guy couldn't hold Clapton's dick when he pisses. Shame on everybody who contributed financially to this overrated, mediocre, ego maniac ass sniffer. Jesus fuckin Christ people have become stupid.

  • @rmed30 as a massive massive clapton fan i think you couldnt be more wrong!?! If you know your stuff clapton took mayer on and taught him a lot about the blues and playing. This guys chops and licks are amazing! you might think as he's young hes just playing for the money but this guy is seriously good. ive seen clapton live 3 times got pretty much all his stuff, christ i even spent a crap load on a signature guitar.Mayer is an amazing player that plays with huge feeling! stop being a music snob

  • @bobwhitton21 He's overrated. Period. The only reason he's famouse is because of dickwipes that continue to further the stereotype that he is a legitmate musician. I personally know guitarists that are more talented than this hack. His songs are lame and cheesy and if it wasn't for 15 year old girls and mentally challenged adults this guy would be unheard of . I'm sorry I don't think "Your body is a wonderland" qualifies this douche as the next Stevie Ray.

  • @rmed30 HAHA best comment EVER!! thanks for saying it out loud!

  • @rmed30 Your bringing up "your body is a wonderland" on a video of him playing clapton...

  • @tmoench1116 : Nothing gets by you. And hat's with the ellipsis? You've probably listened to John Mayer so much that you, much like that no talent fat head, don't even have the ability to finish a sentence. I'm tired of this poop loser cashing in and covering other people's tunes. He has no business singing 'Beast of Burden. If Keith Richards came out of heroin coma long enough to see what this faggot did to that classic, he'd never stop throwing up. Nice observation though...

  • @rmed30 Why are you congratulating me for using ellipsis?

  • @tmoench1116 : You didn't even know what an ellipsis was until a day ago. queer...

  • @rmed30 wow you have the lowest self-esteem ever.

  • @rmed30 sorry whats a legitimate musician!? your either deaf or just massive dumb ass..can you not hear his playing!?!? can you not hear the talent he's got!? have you seen him live?! do it he plays old school blues songs mixed in with his stuff. im afraid your just a bit of a moron who thinks he 'knows'..im afraid your just a music snob.

  • Anyone else notice how many women and probably young people are singing along who would have never otherwise heard of this classic song (sorry to be stereotypical)...That's what he does though, he brings music that has long gone unnoticed and redoes it, for this generation.

  • Its called the tuck it takes some practice tho

  • I bet abe laboriel Sr taught him those slap moves

  • Wow, check out those fingers... ladies just imagine how good those would feel... ya know.... ; )

  • there is no pick in this song. He doesn't play it with a pick. When it looks like he's using a pick he's just squeezing his forefinger and thumb together. I'm pretty sure that's what he's doing.

  • I belive there is a pick, and it's attached to his thumb, you can see it when he swings his arm out towards his band at the end of the song.

  • awesome solo, but if 0:40 isn't the coolest thing ever...

  • that was an awesome solo, but if 0:40 isn't the coolest thing ever...i don't know what is.

  • that was an awesome solo, but if 0:40 isn't the coolest thing ever...i don't know what is.

  • that was an awesome solo, but if 0:40 isn't the coolest thing ever...i don't know what is.

  • yeah there's no pic, i just coroborated that on my guitar it's possible and not that hard, it does look like a bit of magic on the vid though. Solo's not amazing if you're used to his solos.

  • orgasmic

  • Oh how I wish I was that guitar.

  • i can't help it, but seeing him on anything but a fender makes me a little uncomfortable

  • @lpthomson Different guitars = different tones. I'm glad he's not stuck up about only using Strats.

  • @lpthomson He uses this Gibson alot.

  • @lpthomson That's JM's Clapton signature ES-335 - makes sense as Clapton played a 335 when Cream covered crossroads.

  • He is not using a pick he just holds his thumb and pointer finger together and uses his pointer finger's finger nail like a pick.

  • @OutlawGuitarSlinger are you sure i used to think that but other videos he does just "pull it out of nowhere"

  • @voodooblueskid Yeah I'm about 95% sure cause most of his tone and his style comes from a claw technique . But there is a chance i could be wrong .

  • EGO

  • How does he make that pick disappear and then just reappear out of nowhere during the slapping part? lol pretty incredible!

  • @ILSAIDL He doesn't use a pick he just forms his hand likes he's holding a pick and bashing the strings while he is muting the notes he isen't playing. Like that he can play faster :P

  • @seb110893 It would seem you are indeed correct!

  • @seb110893 no he uses a pick.

in the case of the slap solo its in between his middle finger and ring finger.

you can hear hes using a pick because playing with your fingers like you are holding a pick makes sound way more dull.

  • @ILSAIDL i think the only explaination is.. He's John Mayer... ? lol

  • @ILSAIDL between his index and middle fingers :P you get used to it.

  • @ILSAIDL I don't think he's using a pick at all... He's probably just holding his fingers and using the nail on his index finger striking the strings downwards... Note he doesn't seem to strike upwards when he's doing it.

  • @ILSAIDL magic!

  • @ILSAIDL I don't think he's using a pick during the solo at all.

  • @morethanahouse He uses a pick but with a "hybrid technic" from his invention... Or maybe from God's invention ;)

  • @ILSAIDL Thumb pick, he just rolls it 180

  • Comment removed

  • @backspacetube it looks like youre right. is it skin color tho? I cant see it at all. It might be cause the camera is so damn shaky.

  • @ILSAIDL Its called the John Mayer trick! :D

  • @ILSAIDL He keeps his pick in the thick part between his thumb and index fingers. Pretty common actually.

  • @ILSAIDL the pick thing, not hard at all. you're basically just picking with you're finger nails

  • @ILSAIDL magic

  • @ILSAIDL there isn't a pick after the slapping part

  • @RAN15015 he means how is it there before the slapping part and then gone during the slapping part and then back right after. it's a little weirdly worded so i understand how you misunderstood him.

  • @seanryanhamilton I understood him, but i'm sure there isn't a pick.. you can see after the solo that he is using his fingers.

  • @ILSAIDL he doesn't even have a pick.... he just puts the two fingers in the pick position so he gets more "Piky" sound using nothing but his nails :D:D

    This is John Mayer :D:D

  • @ILSAIDL LOL!

  • @ILSAIDL

i m guessing hes not using a pick at all, just shaped up his fingers like hes holding a pick and use finger nail

  • @chenjunhao he keeps it between his middle and ring finger

  • @ILSAIDL He doesn't, hes using his fingertip to pick, and I don't know if you've ever tried to do a powerful blues solo with that racking technique that Vaughn did, but you'll rip you damn fingernail off if you ant good enough. But Mayers a monster, so he can handle it.

  • @ILSAIDL There is no pick lol

  • @ILSAIDL He puts it between is pinky and ring fingers.

  • @ILSAIDL bit late in reply but its because he's not using one...just using his index and thumb

  • @ILSAIDL what pick? all fingers

  • @zhbroder At about 1:45 you'll see him switch over to a pick after slapping. It's a type of pick palm, he just holds it between his pointer finger and middle finger. He plays with his fingers a lot, but a pick gives a little extra bite (and speed) to a solo scenario--and he takes advantage of that pretty often

  • @zhbroder when he hits that solo, its all pick...look closely

  • @soulsurfseeker If he had a pick you would see him drop it at 1:25

  • @ILSAIDL just slip it between two of your fingers, flick it back out - old trick

  • @ILSAIDL he is using his nail not the pick ahah he holds it in the positions for acuracy

  • @ILSAIDL He's probably not using a pick. For this song he does a lot of plucking between his fore finger and thumb

  • I WAS THERE! AMAZING SHOW! He seriously gets better every time I see him live!

  • OMG, YOU WERE SO CLOSE! WHAT TIME DID YOU GET THERE TO GET SO CLOSE?

  • 335, the master tone and beauty guitar...looks good on you johnny

  • jesus that solo was amazing

  • @telecasterthommy

    fuck yeah

  • @telecasterthommy I can easly play a better Crossroad solo than this... And Clapton did it back in the '60's , and he does it today... This is just a bunch off notes...

  • You were right, thx!
