i have learned more in the last two hours watching your vids. than i ever dreamed possible thanks for all the help plan to watch all your videos you are the man thanks for all you do
I live in an older house that's fairly dusty. I need to go around the layout with a track cleaning car about once a week. It takes about 10-15 minutes to clean off the dust. I've been working on the mainline so I haven't run anything in a while so there is a pretty good build up of dust.
Are you sure using sandpaper to clean the rails is a good idea? I've always been under the impression that it would scratch the railheads and make later cleaning almost impossible.
I don't use anything coarser than 400 grit waterproof sand paper to the get the initial layer of weathering off. I then use 600, 800, and then finally 1500 grit to polish the tops of the rails.
Hi, what did you call that solution you had in the pvc pipe? How long does it take before you have to clean tracks? Depends on usage and general cleanliness I guess, but anyway...
Micro Engineering Rail Weathering solution. I do a mix of 1 part water to 1 part solution and it takes about 5 - 7 minutes for the rails to blacken up. If there is dirt or any kind of oily residue on the track then you'll end up with bright spots on the rail so you need to make sure you clean the track off throughly.
how do you cut the stuff?

They say NEVER use sand paper cause you leave micro cratches on the rail that collect dirt.

After you finish the cleaning process, how long before you start cleaning the rails again? like once per month?
