  • He was so freaking funny! I love him :)

  • 2:16 Anyone up for a night of fisting?

  • The slap at 1:02 was just amazing.

  • 4:15 - Gaga claws!

  • LOL XD LOVE THIS

  • this makes me love him even more than i already do!!! LOVE these montages x

  • I like it when the girls b#%&-slap HIM. Hah! Uh huh.

  • MADE IT MA..!! TOP OF THE WORLD!!!

  • James Cagney is hysterical

  • Drink every time he mumbles "mmh". And every time he hits a lady

  • This is AMAZING! Thank you so much!!!

  • @84heroes1 I agree!! I would add my 'missing' scene where he says 'mama, that man's here again.'

  • I've never considered myself a big James Cagney fan but after a minute and a half of this video he completely won me over and I went out and rented two of his movies. Fantastic tribute!!

  • What movie is shown at 2:48? I can't stop laughing at this part.

  • @84heroes1

I might have put the cigar smashing scene in one of these montages, but I'm not sure. There are five of these videos and I made them over 3 years ago. It's hard to keep straight what scenes made it into each one.

  • What're the movies at 4:02, 4:20, and 4:21?

  • @Deppaddicted

"Footlight Parade", "Midsummer Night's Dream", and "Picture Snatcher".

  • 2:23-2:25... O.o

  • These videos made me so happy. :D

  • Where can I watch Blonde Crazy?

  • what was that movie at 3:05?

  • @ThaFutureLegend

    That would be "Blonde Crazy"

  • @igvmyslf1000pts ah can you please tell me the name of the movie at 2:35 oh and p.s where did you find all of these movies?

  • @ThaFutureLegend

    "Sinner's Holiday"

Most of the movies I was able to tape a few years back when Cagney was TCM's star of the month and they would play marathons of his movies. It was VERY fortunate timing because I had JUST discovered the greatness of Cagney literally only weeks before this, so I was able to get to see and tape a lot of his lesser-known films. Most of his more well-known ones are out on dvd though.

  • @igvmyslf1000pts oh well thank you and do you know if they are doing another one? and and the movie at 1:57 please

  • @ThaFutureLegend

Unfortunately, I do not know, sorry. I would just keep a look out on the TCM schedule every couple of weeks. They occasionally will run some of these lesser-known ones. Sometimes around his bday they may do a mini marathon or something, also. And 1:57 is "Sinner's Holiday" again. :]

  • the one at 0:18 is the greatest thing on film

  • Diet?..............grapefruit?! :o

  • Did I ever tell you about the time I fell in love with a midget weighing 39 pounds... I've been a Cagney fan all my life. truelly an actors actor. Which movie was it that he did the coffee bit I can't seem to recall it? I know I'm ashamed I should know.

  • He would've been a fantastic Joker in a '30s era "Batman" film... :-D

  • What? In 2:33 there is a Wilhelm scream!

  • another funny one he was just so magnificent

  • Cagney was best actor ever, way before my time. But my dad (sadly not with us anymore) was a huge fan n got me watchin Jimmy when i was young. And my dad had a lot of Cagneys mannerisms. Reminds me of him :D

  • 3:02 owned lol

  • does anyone happen to know the film where Cagney leans over, kisses a woman, she then slaps him, and then he head butts her?

    would really appreciate it.

  • @imtiko the bride came c.o.d.

  • Wow, what personality; I wonder what his real personality was like lol

  • LOL Love him, and this actually makes me want to watch more of his films weird huh?

  • God, I'm just getting into my Burt lancaster fix...buying old DVD's on amazon....now you got me into this...you....rascal..you nincompoop...you dirty rat!

  • Wow! Great compilation. This really demonstrates Cagney's acting ability. PS It's so funny!

  • He's awesome just like him

  • wonderful editing . . . thanks for this montage

  • Jim, this is Lisa her 0 I always loved his maniacal laugh. I got to meet him on several occasions later in his life when h e move d to a farm outside of nyc, He was a quiet and reserved man but still showed flashes of his brilliance.

  • @Daverat his laugh, yes.

  • Epic!

    Cagney lives on.

    I like 1:39

"How bout trees?" and his weird expression.

  • CHARM

    CLASS

    DYNAMITE

    :D

  • Now see here, you dirty rat!

  • I've watched all of these and now I want to watch them all over again. James C. is slowly becoming one of my all-time favorite actors. He passed away the year before I was born, and yet, I find him so much more talented and attractive than many of the young male actors of my own generation. Again, great work on these videos!

  • Great stuff; just great. Lately I've been renting classic movies from NetFlix to show to my wife of 3 yrs, who is from China. In the past 2 weeks we've watched Angels With Dirty Faces, Public Enemy and Yankee Doodle Dandy. She loves Cagney. Now, she always calls me Tommy Boy! LOL

  • Gvmyslf1000pts this is such a great and detailed montage...My hope is that you do one on Humphrey Bogart...E.G. Robinson...Raft and even J. Garfield...if you get the the same kind vision and inspiration with there movies like with Cagney's movies.

  • Great!!!!! i like that....

  • P.S. These vids make me want to see some Cagney films! I haven't seen any! :-\

  • YOU HAVE NO IDEA what UR MISSING!!! FOR REAL!!!!

  • I've actually remedied the situation since I made the comment about not having seen a Cagney film. I saw "The Public Enemy" a few weeks ago, and it was AWESOME! Next up: "Angels With Dirty Faces". :)

  • Cagney could have been the Fourth Stooge, or the fifth Marx Brother. LOL

  • Yes he could!!! :)

  • Villain starring Richard burton is better

  • <3 it!

  • You are brilliant--and obviously a loyal Cagney fan.

  • I don't know if it's just me, but somehow James Cagney reminds me of Alex in A Clockwork Orange.

  • I've read that Kubrick/McDowell modeled some of Alex on James Cagney's performance from Public Enemy.

  • Aha! Now that would explain it.

  • Maybe that's what Malcolm Mcdowell was trying to go for. :p

  • 0:30 LMAO! after the hit

  • Cagney never liked the idea of hitting women and was violently opposed to crime. Unfortunately, it was popular and what sold and what Warner Brothers wanted in those days.

  • :49

    LOL

  • Loved it!

  • Sure beat on a lot of women, didn't he.

  • Cagney is the man!!!

  • Yellow was cowardly and yellow belly was a big expression back in those days.

  • I LOVE his laugh!! =)

  • LOVE this! What a unique star. Makes me long for the days when an interesting personality could become a star, even if they weren't conventionally "handsome."

  • Damn.

    Cagney was the man.

  • Can't remember which movie he is in on :52 wearing the derby and giving the raspberry?

  • "Blonde Crazy"

  • Thank you for making that Mel :)

  • acording to Lauren Bacall even Bogart thought Jim Cagney was the greatest personality on the screen. he certainly displayed more creative flair than any of the great screen imortals.

  • at about 4:04 what movie is that? the one with cats

  • "Footlight Parade"

  • thanks :)

  • Just saw Footlight Parade on TCM and am now in a Cagney mood. Great video! He was incredibly talented, sexy and full of personality... and this montage captures it all!

  • Kudos.

  • Wonderful editing! You've really captured the fun and playfulness of the man. Thank you for your hard work!

  • this sort of made my life. 1/5? You're amazing. ahahahahah.

  • What's the movie at 4:28 and 4:32?

    I HAVE to see that!

  • "Ceiling Zero". :)

  • Oooooh, thank you thank you thank you.. =-)~

  • 2.34.2.37 yes was sinners holiday . i have the film on disc. film finder

it was his debut film also. from a play called penny arcade..

  • Is this the one where he gets blown up on the gas tank?

  • ..Well.. no.. this is a montage video.. That scene is from "White Heat", which IS in this, though.

  • best montage ive ever seen in my entire life.

  • Jimmy was great! It must have taken you forever to make this! Wonderful! Five stars.

  • Everytime I watch this I love Cagney more and more.He was so wonderful.

  • Soooo good! I can't imagine the time and effort you must've put into this! It's so excellent and well timed and paced and such. So good. =D

  • That was excellent, well done, nobody threw a punch quite like Jimmy.

    Thanks.

  • What's the movie from 2:34-2:37 where he's all-"I'm warning ya, I've gotta gun too!"?

  • "Sinner's Holiday"

  • Comment removed

  • LOL! Yellow was not used because of Japanese. When he says "yellow dirty double crossing rat" he is meaning the guy is "yellow" meaning he's a chicken..he has no guts..he's a coward! :)

  • I know but also, in the old "Pink Panther"s with Cato, Clousea calls him yellow and he's referring to his race...

  • Yes, in that instance it was being used racially, but back in the gangster movies, no, VintageLady is right, it meant "scared" and "cowardly".

  • Yeah, ''yellow'' is a term for ''mongoloids'' just as ''black'' is a term for ''negroids'' and ''white'' is a term for ''caucasoids''. It is generally all nonsensical as the colour codes don't really work (for instance the Japanese are only as yellow as Northern Europeans, and some Indians are almost as dark as Africans despite being ''caucasian'').

But Igv and Vintage are right. Yellow was used for years to me cowardly.

  • Why you dirty double crossing rat...Whu?

  • haha this is great, thanks for sharing!

  • Great video Melanie! Cagney is so sexy!!! What was the song with the clarinet at the end when he escorted the woman out?

  • Very sexy noises for me to enjoy... Mmmmmmmmmm....

  • LMFAO at 2:38

  • ☻/

    /▌

    / \

  • hmmmm... umm hm.

  • mmmm James Cagney you looked and sounded great... mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm what was that about a double crossin so and so>???

    love it

  • This is why he's one of my favorite actors. I said to friend once if The Dark Knight was made in the 1940s Cagney should do the Joker especially with the laugh in 0:54.

  • Nice vid, very funny tribute to a great all-round actor. Looking forward to seeing the others...

  • I would give so many limbs and various other body parts to have all of his movies...

  • just placed this in my Fav's

    great sensibilities and effort

    let's dress up like gangsters

    and get into trouble together

    u game baby?

  • great going...good stuff! Funny!

  • this video, for some odd reason, has made him incredibly sexy to me lol

  • He is anyway ;)

  • which movie is the "lots of room in here." line

  • Public Enemy

  • haha really i have seen that film like 4 times and didnt rember thanks

  • 4:03-4:15 is sooo funny!I adore Cagney.

  • which film was it when he says "nah seee" (sounds like that) and also "never catch me alive copper?"

  • ur thinking of edward g robinson

  • what was the last before the:

    'video by melanie'

    from?

  • That's from "Blonde Crazy". The background music isn't part of the clip though.

  • this is the most gangster thing i have ever seen!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i love your vids, being a Cagney fan! nice job!

  • God, that was just fantastic! I've loved Cagney since I was 16 years old. Have seen just about all his classics. This was a lovely way to start my day off before I go to work!

  • Gee, sister, that's a swell video...I read "Cagney by Cagney," and I doesn't rememember any in this video, but I like it. It had been years ago.

  • Colin Mochrie does a hilarious impression of him. LOL!!!

  • Classic Cagney!

  • Ya chachacha, ya chachacha! /catdance

  • Who taught him how to dance? Hes a acrobat!

  • Hi: He had to learn to tap to get a much needed job to help out his family, so he just followed the guys feet next to him. He landed the job and as they say...the rest is history.

  • What movie is the "I cried all night" from? Thanks!

  • It's from "Ceiling Zero". :)

  • Melanie you made me so happy with this video! Viva Cagney!! Whattaya hear whattaya say?

  • a labor of love -- wonderful montage. THank you for posting.

  • may you be in heaven one hour before the devil knows you are dead.

  • hilarious, i loved it! it must've taken you so much time to put this together

  • The part where he snaps what's-her-name's garter is really sexy and funny!!

  • lol, what movie is the dancing from? i want to see it!!

  • Footlight Parade

  • God, he's hot!

  • Well there ARE 4 other parts....

  • too bad things changed with the cowardice we see today.those days we knew what yellow meant, cause Jimmy showed us..Loved this video.

  • I agree. Nobody was a bigger yellowbelly than Cagney! Especially when he was shitting his pant going to the chair! What a blubbering mess. Great acting.

  • That dirty yellow double crossy burglars!!!

  • this is probably one of my fav. videos on youtube. i love everything cagney did (especially his crazy tap dancing and adorably eccentric laughs). it's cool to look at this and see the diversity in roles he took on. no one could or can touch him for talent.

  • I loved that.

  • 0.43 is the best one. I nearly pissed myself. check it out.

  • "Mhm!"

"Biff!" "Boff!" Great editing. Made me giggle. James Cagney doth be da man.

  • The only person who could play James Cagney is James Cagney

  • cagney was one of the best! He never seems to get the full credit he deserved. And he was a great looking man!!

  • The man who should play the role of James Cagney,in a movie is Jack Black...he could win ,without any doubt ,his first oscar!!

  • Cagney actually chose Michael J. Fox to play him for a bio type movie a long time ago, I think it was in the 80s, but nothing ever came out of it. And now, unfortunately, with Fox's disease, it'll never happen. :( Jack Black is quite an interesting choice, haha, I'd never thought about him. Honestly, though, who could ever really play Cagney? He's pretty untouchable. A movie about him WOULD be nice to see someday though. Ah well. We can only hope.

  • I absolutely love this! I love Jimmy Cagney, and this in my opinion was probably a better and more comprehensive tribute than TCM's James Cagney month.

  • 1:04 ftw.

  • Wow, what a wonderful collection of moments XD

    James, such a drama queen<3

  • talent

  • Cagney unleashed!! :D

  • Rocky Dies Yellow! best headline in a spinning fictitious newspaper ever.

  • On my tv, he dies in black and white.

  • One of the best videos on Youtube! Keep it up!

  • My new favourite series of videos on youtube.

    Your hardwork shows.

    Love it!

  • Great work. I love this!

  • TOO fkn cool! Cagney has always been my favorite! This is a genius idea! Did u make this yrself? Brilliant! Thanx Ig'. xx

  • Indeed I did! This, and parts 2, 3, and 4! Took houuuurs of capturing and editing. (I got a tad carried away! There's too many great Cagney moments. *SIGH*)

Thanks for the compliments. :) :)

    ~Mel

  • YVW!! (yr very welcome!) I respect and admire u 4 this. Really. thax again and Ill certainly watch parts 2,3 & 4. :)

  • Mmmhmmm

    hmm

    uhhuh

    mmmm

     XD

  • This is terrific. I just read "Cagney" by the guy .that ghost wrote "Cagney by Cagney". You have captured so many of the stories I read. He was such a stand up guy and so loved by his fellow actors. Thank you for a great 5 minutes and 25 seconds. I cant wait for part two.

  • Thanks a lot! :) I haven't read any of the books on Cagney yet, but I plan to in the near future. Part 2 and 3 are up if you're interested! :)

    Thanks again!

    ~Mel

  • james cagney was so handsome--they don't make them like that, or like marlon brando anymore!
