I fully acknowledge that this movie is not a 4 star critically acclaimed masterpiece, but it is a childrens movie that gets the job done. This movie means a lot to me, because I grew up with it on VHS and it brought a lot of joy to my life and is not bringing joy to my young neices. And even as I aged I appreciated entertainers like Dan Akroyd and Reba Mcentire in a musical number together.. but I think most of all: Marc Shaimans score OMG YES

I was 13 in 94 and depressed to hear that Kurdt Cobain shot himself. This was out on lazerdisc. I saw this in a daze. The only time I remember using the term "loosen his pants" was when my classmate fell asleep and we loosened it so when the bell rang and he sprang for the door with his hands full of books his pants would drop down and he'd trip. Then I'd laugh, look at my shoes all sad and be like "man, Nirvana's dead."

It's amazing, the film score at the very beginning and the title card really are pretty harmless. In fact, they are charming in their own way. It's sad, only the first three minutes of the film are okay.....

And then the whole thing spirals down a black hole from which there is no escape.

@Galkatokk ummm... louis-dreyfus is only half jewish (per jewish law, she isn't jewish because her mother isn't) - but elijah wood plays a jew in the school play (tevya - in the opening scenes of the movie) - oh, and his parents run a delicatessen, if that counts for anything :)

I'll admit, it does have a certain "charm" about it despite the bad script, bad jokes and bad characters....but that's more of my '90's nostalgia kicking in than anything else. Even the worst films from the 90's have that "innocence" and sense of wonderment about them. But, yeah North still sucks

2. Pedophilie references (Bruce Willis following him around, the loosen his pants joke etc)

3. Vulgar attitude and stupidity

There were some good moments though like:

1. the prepubescent Larry King Winchall that NC described the newspaper kid as

2. Two Seinfield characters being North's parents

3. Bruce Willis as the Easter Bunny

4. Crazy Eskimo village.

5. Cameo from the teacher from Ferris Buller's Day Off.

I find this ironic that Elijah Wood, the star of this film, would be in this not-so-great film and ends up being in a multi-billion dollar excellent Trilogy, "The Lord of the Rings." Thank God his career didn't go down the drain... and I bet he regrets being in this film.

And I think I know why Jason and Julie were in this film: Rob Reiner worked for Castle Rock, and Seinfeld's production studio was Castle Rock, so you can figure it out from here.

I, too, have different opinions on films that he reviews. There are some I agree and some I don't agree. (like calling Richard Williams a "turkey" in one review. What an insult to a famous animator).
