Will a usb HID footswitch work with this? I don't have anything with an instrument jack, but was curious if I could use a basic usb HID footswitch that is used for controlling dictation software, but use it to control looper in ableton?
Hi, i have a normal foot pedal like the one you got, but it doesnt work properly with the looper.
if i press the pedal down and hold it, it will do nothing. Only when i let go it will then go into record. then if i press down again, still does nothing. only when i release it seems to work. Seems like my pedal is working backwards?
@solidgooold I would say instead of holding your foot on the pedal, just tap it once to get it going then tap it again to stop recording (like he did in the video).
Think of it like a mouse; the click registers on the release, not the click down. I hope this helps :)

can anyone tell me how can i set the cue point to the sample editör which is at the right bottom of sequence window? but not want to mean arrange window
Not gonna lie, that first loop sounds like Diablo music :D
But is the Alesis footswitch anything more than a pushbutton switch? I'm considering making my own & using the footswitch option on my Toneport UX2. If not, I was thinking I could also hack up a USB keypad with some toggle switches & use the keyboard input to control parameters; there's a great tutorial for that on the Max/MSP site.
Hey Huston Singletary. Can you do a pt2 clinic for setting up a multitrack looper? so for example, after you record let's say a bassline on the 1st looper and add guitar parts on a second looper, you can then mute the bassline. will they stay in sync? what's a good way to approach this?
Is Looper in Live LIte 8 Digidesign edition. I can't find it and have a feeling the answer is "no."
My other question is, can I use my Rig Kontrol 2 footpedal to control Looper? The looper in guitar rig is impossible to get the timing right on punch outs.
quick question, If you've just recorded 3 different parts in over dub mode on the looper, how can you just listen to 1 of the parts on it's own. do you have to have x amount of loopers set up on different channels so you can mute individual parts or is there a way of doing this on the looper. thanks
@ashmuz You don't NEED multiple channels, but you would need multiple loopers. Remember to start your first loop on the LAST looper in the chain and work backwards. This way you wont record the loops that are playing on the new "overdub". Also its important to set the looper to jump to 'Playback' instead of 'Overdub'.
@omyiga you could use that as a footswitch and the only problem I can see with it is the small pads the controller has. I've got the nanopad, which if I wanted to i could use that to do what he is doing. But you might wanna go with something a bit more sturdy for your feet.
I've noticed that when I switch on looper and start to play some stuff through it, the tempo switches up to something like 999 beats per minute. i know I'm not doing it. why is that happening?
You need to set it to record higher bars, for shorter loops---This can work with shorter bars for longer loops. Try making some 8/16 bar loops---You'll see Ableton's BPM/tempo get clocked at a "normal" ratio
If you start recording in looper it will automatically adjust the master tempo to it's perceived tempo of the material you record in. Depending on what you're recording into it, it may not be detecting this very well. You can stop it from doing this by making sure that Live is already playing before you record in looper.
Off topic. Just a short question; I've produced some songs in Ableton and I would like to post them on youtube. Do I need to export them as video? I've got Live 7 LE, so I doubt it's possible to export them as video.....
Basically you want to make a basic music video. You're right, Live can't do this. You have to export to .wav or .mp3 then use a video program to put the beats behind a video clip or still picture. It's easy to do on a Mac because you get iMovie built in. That's what i use for my vids. On PC, there must be something free that does this too.
All the pedals you have listed will work fine. As long as they have an instrument jack on the end of the cable they will fit into the APC's dual footswitch jacks.
If you have any type of controller with an instrument input for foot control/switching then controlling Live through the MIDI Map feature is fairly straightforward. You must have some way to send your footswitch "analog" output and convert it into a USB signal. That is what the controller will do. Wether it's AN APC40, M-audio Axiom, Edirol or any hardware controller with the FOOTSWITCH INPUTS on the unit. If your controller does not have a Footswitch input then it will not work.
what footswitch do you have? is it hooked up to a midi keyboard of any kind? Have a look in preferences/midi sync tab. Look at the MIDI ports INPUT and see the 'Track' 'Sync' 'Remote'?? under that you have the option of turning on or off. You need to have 'Remote' turned on for the MIDI input where your footswitch is. Back on the main screen, Ctrl+M turns on the MIDI map layout for you to assign...
Once you have the controller setup in the preferences and you have MIDI activity designated by the yellow flashing activator in the upper right of the interface you can select MIDI mapping and then click on the record switch in Looper. This will allow you to punch in and out with Looper as shown in the video.
No clue, you people dont speak my language, you all say this works can someone give an example on EXACTLY HOW TO SET THIS UP?????excluding NO DETAIL!!!!
2) Whatever it is plugged into, this needs setting up in Ableton uder the 'Preferences' (midi / sync tab). I won't put too musch information here, looks like we're gonna have to go slow with this one...
can the loops be recorded into separate tracks using the footswitch? so that one loop could be edited later without effecting the others? instead of going into overdub mode i want a new track to be created and record on that only. is this possible?
once you've got the track recorded that you like and want to keep. Just click on the Looper and drag your cursor upto an audio track. That will create a sample of whatever you've got playing in looper! I LOVE looper!! It's a revelation to me, a new way for me to write music :D
sick! i can't wait! i just went to the clinic at robotspeak in SF with dave...and he awesome! now with the looper, i'm hoping to get rid of all my other software and make LIVE my WIFE ;)
My input device is an M-Audio ozone, is it possible to connect a simple footswitch to that and work in the same way shown here or would I need a footswitch with a usb cable of it's own. If the latter is the case are there any budget footswtches with usb connections? cheerz
The Ozone has a sustain switch input like most controllers these days. Simply use a basic pedal footswitch inserted into the Ozone then simply connect the controller to your computer via USB. Check your preferences in Live to make sure the Ozone or similar controller is connected and you are set. Enjoy Looper and Live 8!
Thanks for the reply. I'm not sure why I got a -1 for that comment whoever gave it to me. Seems like a legitimate question. I literally just bought Ableton a few months back so a major upgrade sucks when I just purchased it.
That's a bummer, I would email them as I'm sure there was a special deal for people who but 7 a few months before they release of 8. Its a great software, go through all the tutorials as I find they are very good.
I have a Fast Track Pro, i can connect a footswitch in the inserts?
