Hesh would have made a good consiglieri. Not that Silvio was bad, he was tough and VERY loyal. But Hesh seemed more like an old school strategist, complete with a strong financial sense (similar to Meyer Lansky).
@jksonny You have a very good point, espically in the Lanksy view of it.
But after the old bosses like Luciano & Costello. Jews never ranked as high as they used too, espically since they can't be made. Thanks for watching (:
@Mercedesbenzrox You're right. Lansky was pretty much the last of the big-name Jewish gangsters. And Tony was smart enough to keep Hesh around as an advisor without getting him directly involved. It's too bad Tony's greed ruined the relationship.
@jksonny Technically Hesh couldn't be in the family anyway right? Since he's not full blooded Italian? I thought the whole thing was they had to be able to date your family back to the old country. Isn't that one of the main rules? Kinda like Jimmy the Gent in Goodfellas. He wasn't a made guy cuz he was part Irish, as well as Henry Hill being part Jewish.
@Antrizzle2009 That's the way it supposedly worked but exceptions have been made, like in Lansky's case. Plus, these days, you have the Russian mob, the Chinese mob, etc., etc. and I think that has also muddled the ancestry protocol of the Italian mafia. And, if 'The Sopranos' series made one thing clear, it's that when money is involved, and the potential to make more money, all other considerations go out the window.
@jksonny Notice in how later seasons his crew started picking up on that and that's why he started having tension with some many of them and even some of them flipped over it, like Carlo. Him and Paulie's relationship was never the same after that shit with Ralphie. I don't even have to bring up Christopher. Truth is, Tony wasn't as great a leader as so many fans would have you believe. Carmine was a much more effective boss when he was alive.
@Antrizzle2009 I agree 100%. Tony liked to claim that he was a pragmatist (and I think Tony himself believed this) but in fact, his ego and his inner felings of inadequacy called most of his shots, which is not unlike 99% of human beings. The key is to minimize the influence of those kinds of factors on your decisions; those who can do this are true leaders, the others aren't.
running their mouth like crazy in an establishment the FBI knows belongs to them...and in front of cocktail waitresses and strippers...it's an entertaining show but lacks for authenticity at times...unless it's portraying obtuse wiseguys...
@sMercedesbenzrox So even if you scan the place once a week with the latest updated c.i.a antibug scanners you would think its safe to speak indoors?? and run ya mouth all over the place come on!! i think yall know betta especially after the gotti show!! dont get me wrong i love the sopranos butt it wasnt bulletproof and they really made the feds looks likes a bunch off retards(wich they were up to the 80s) butt a small taskforce workin around the clock would bury the jersey clowns!!! NOT???
@serveandcollectable The FBI were funded to indict the New York families. In reality the new jersey mafia are a joke, It's the Gambinos and Lucchese the feds want.

@antrizzle2009 even after tony made boss they pretty much talked crime (incrimenating) everywhere in cars in the porkstore especially in the bada bing office if the feds had a bugg in there they all would be dune!! back in thedays when the feds where not on the mobbs ass tis wouldnt be a problem butt after the 80s!! this is a bigg slipp up from david chase!!
@serveandcollectable They had electronic detectors to make sure there were no wires, also Chase himself interviewed ex-FBI agents from the O.C Unit, so it is very up to scratch on realism. Maybe when they talk outside it is an error due to parabolic sensors? That's all I found incorrect. But after 2001 the FBI had a major cut in O.C funds due to 9/11 and focused on Terrorism, so did the state police when the deputy commissioner was replaced with ex-CIA who also focused on Terrorism.
Funny how when looking back it, during the season 1 they talked criminal shit pretty everywhere, the club, the pork shop, etc... after that season when the FBI knows Tony is boss, notice how they stopped with all that. It's the subtle things that made this show great.

@jksonny You're right about that. Hell, Tony would have had a black gay guy in the family if it meant making him more money LOL

@Antrizzle2009 Yep. Tony was a big talker when it came to the mafia code, tradition, etc. but his only true loyalty was to money.
