  • your big thing that you carry up the stairs, best illegality ever

  • When the explanation of "Things You Pull" being buzzed was shown, who was that speaking off-camera, a judge or another player?

  • @blozier2006 The guy saying "Tug means Pull", I mean

  • @blozier2006 If Dick said "David", I think he means David Graf. It sounded like him, but I'm not 100% sure.

  • Make sure you mute the Donny Osmond clips. I do, because I don't wanna hear the "Oh oh oh oh!" crap. Sounds like he's whining. God! Making my ears bleed.

  • @gunneddown213 For that one, even if Colin Mochrie hadn't said part of the answer, he probably would have been zapped for getting too descriptive.

  • For PULL, i LOOSE TOOTH.

  • This was why Donnymid was so lame. At :33 the next clue was Decades. Now what kind of clues are they supposed to come up with?

  • jackee harry and bronson pinchot are on my list of worst pyramid players

  • 0:22 I think that's Nancy Cartwright.

  • Things you Spank LOL

  • "A baby."

    "...... Things that you spank?"

    O.O

  • For those of us who hated English, remember that old prepositional phrase rule on pyramid. Bad when they would use "in a ..", "on a..., by the.., for example.

  • For those of us who hated English, remember the old pprepositional phrase rule for pyramid,

  • that's a bullshit rule, how do you know if it is too descriptive or not?

  • Things w/ nuts: Trail mix, this show, a street vendor

For things that are started I can think of a race car's engine; would a green-flagged race have worked?

  • @HarlemHyena *DING*

  • I love it, when she said "the wash rags" for "things in a car wash" - there was a delay before the buzzer. You could almost imagine the judges looking at each other saying "Did she really just say that?" before buzzing her.

  • "Things you might hear at the water cooler" seems like a bit of overkill for subject.

  • 0:55 Fat Conan O'Brian!

  • Flowers... New flowers! Flowers in spring!

    Lol, that bitch is dumb!

  • 0:35 *bokadoweet*

    "Things that surprise you!"

    I lol'd.

  • You know, this illustrates one thing - the new "modern" pyramid, with the silence and computer graphics, is nowhere near as exciting as the old version. The timer, the countdown sounds, the crowd clapping, even the manually rotated display all add to the drama. If they create a new version of pyramid, they should return to the old way of doing things - much more fun and exciting.

  • @bigdenverguy

I Don't think so, because of minor probelms with the flip boards, so they made it computer graphics, it started with the final season of John Davidson pyramid.

  • "glub glub glub"

  • @Italianlover07

That was not all. See "Bizarre Pyramid End"

  • @Italianlover07 Actually, in law, "innocent" and "not guilty" are not syonymous. Innocent means "You didn't do it." Not Guilty means "The state failed to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that you did it."

  • @WavemasterAshi

Actually they are syonymous, read the thesaurus

  • @jmjfanss In common usage, certainly they are. All I'm saying is that they mean different things to a lawyer.

  • if u hate Donny Osmond's "OH OH OH OH", like my comment

  • at least six of those people were wrongfully buzzed

  • Kennedy from Friend or Foe.

  • Comment removed

  • No, you fucking moron. A clown's face isn't a person.

  • @mightydyckerson

    Do not insult me please.

  • Then don't say stupid things.

  • lol this is great, but i thought if an illegal clue was given during the bonus round the game was over, even if it was on the first subject...

  • Nope. During the Dick Clark era, the bonus round determined who was coming back to the following show - whomever accumulated the most money. So continuing the bonus round is essential.

The illegal clue ending the bonus game was applied in the Super Password's "CASHWORD". One of the more famous clips on YouTube is the "Board Game" buzz, which ended the attempt to win.

  • Donny's "OH OH OH OH OH" is soooo annoying. Dick Clark rocks

  • @barber215 I know. Donny knows how to rub it in the constentant's face. Why couldn't he just say, "Nice try" or "Good job though."

  • Is it just me or in a lot of these clips celebrities give illegal clues in the middle tier of the WC? (the 4th and 5th tier)

  • For "Things at Starbucks", just saying "expensive coffee" probably would have been acceptable, but unfortunately he got too descriptive.

  • *BUZZ* I'm not sure about that. Larry got buzzed for saying "Hot coffee at expensive prices", so I think you would likely get buzzed for your description as well.

  • That was buzzed because it was a preposition phrase - illegal in all forms of Pyramid.

  • "OH! OH! OH! OH!" One of those reasons, plus the adding of the music ... is why I wasn't a super-fan of the Osmond era. :P

  • @rickhh1 Don't give up the day job, Donny, unless it's being a game show host.

  • "A rock in the road" is a descriptive phrase.

  • Candy is always a great way to console someone after a bad day. Someone should have given Adrienne a box of peanut brittle.

  • Things at Starbucks:

    Expensive Hot Coffee

  • Great collection! Thanks for compiling and posting it! I noticed Jackee' Harry was one of the zapped celebrities. I remember watching once when she was zapped FOUR times in one round at the winner's circle! I believe it was her first time there.

  • She was actually buzzed three times.

  • She actually was no buzzer on her last box. It was only after the commercial-break that it was determined that her clue was not accepted.

  • I was responding to DannyBkyn about Jackee Harry in which he thought she got four buzzes when it was actually three.

  • A peanut is a nut, Peanut butter is made from peanuts I guess.

  • The important issue is that "peanut" has the word "nut" in it. "Cashew butter" or "almond butter" would be legal.

  • I wonder why he said "Things with a mermaid on them" after the cluegiver said "The mermaid symbol," which would have been disqualified.

And boy do I really dislike Donny's constant "Oh, oh, oh, what was it audience?" every single time someone doesn't win.

  • My point exactly. He should have at least tried to give the contestant a subtle hint instead of making them look bad in front of the audience.

  • Well, either time was short or he didn't want to do what Dick Clark would usually do whenever a category was missed, but I am surprised that he couldn't come up with something other than "Oh, oh, oh, what was it audience?"

  • @SP84Fanatic Yeah. Donny has a way to rub it in, doesn't he?

  • I dont think that 0:41 should of been illegal

  • He said "hear" which was part of the category.

  • didn't even see that wow.

  • Bronson is the funniest illegality

  • Some of these celebrities were SO arrogant about their clue giving abilities, it's nice to see some of their stupid moments. :)

  • 1:32...the subject fell off the trilon!

  • nice category at 1:32!!

  • "A stare...a Match Game question..." "Things that are BLANK!"

  • For the rest of the story of Adrienne Barbeau's entrance into the elite triple-buzz club, see "bizarre pyramid end."

  • Why did "Oh, I'm a nice cool drink of water" got buzzed for "Refreshing Things"?

  • That's too descriptive.

  • More explanation is needed (as ChipL955). Yours may not be wrong, but it does not convey the whole story; this was not a typical descriptive clue.

It is quite strange that the celebrity even thought to give the clue.

  • @excuseyou77 Also because it's outside the category. That's more like "What a Refreshing Thing Says"

  • "Oh, I'm a nice cool drink of water" is an allowable clue if the category is "What A Refreshing Thing Would Say." But the category was "Refereshing Things," so only "a nice cool drink of water" would be allowable -- and even that might get buzzed for having too many adjectives in it.

  • Too many adjectives would not have been a problem. Being "too descriptive" refers solely to describing after the noun.

What I wonder is how she even thought of saying it. Misreading "what..uses" and "what..says" happened, but I saw no way to even derive any "might say" from the category.

  • @GameShowFan6 The catagory also wasn't "What a refreshing thing would say." Just things that are refreshing, so it was being descriptive.

  • @GameShowFan6 refreshing and cool are the same

  • 0:55

That's Scott Hostetler, who appeared on a lot of game shows ('70s, '80s, and '00s.) Does anyone have the full episode?

  • And appeared in two versions of the same show Press Your Luck and Whammy! (tanpyl))

  • @Hondo20132 a.k.a The "Hong Kong Alright!" man!

  • PYRAMID WHAT NOT TO DO:

    Call Bronson Pinchot back.

  • "The big thing that you carry up the stairs" Enough said!

  • "Car in the morning" too.

  • Comment removed

  • The episode where he made those errors just aired on GSN, and it was such a shame, especially since he did well in the front game.

Given that it was his first ever appearance on the show, I'll give him a pass on the 'Car in the morning' thing - not sure what else he could have said for "Things That are Started". Lord knows there were Pyramid vets who gave FAR more ridiculous clues than that.

I'll see what he does throughout the rest of the week.

  • At 2:44, why did he get buzzed by saying " The road across Texas"?

  • It's a prepositional phrase.

  • "across" is a preposition. Had he said, "Texas roads", that would've been ok.

  • cant wait to part 5

  • I believe polish and shine are synonimos.

  • "Springtime flowers" would have worked for "Things that blossom" I believe.

  • THINGS WITH NUTS: Cookies, Brownies

Gosh that's all that I can think of.

  • A man!

  • Henry Pollock said "a macadamia farm" and was not buzzed. Therefore, as long as the type of nut does not have the word "nut", you can precede with it. Other good clues would be "almond cookies" and "cashew butter."

  • An insane asylum.

  • To add to "Things with nuts", how about comedies? There are a lot of nuts in those.

  • How about "Some chocolate bars"?

  • Comment removed

  • Why did Henry get buzzed by saying a clowns face?

  • The face is not a person (even if it is part of a person).

  • I'm trying to remember who was the worst PYramid Player ever. I think it's a tie betweet Tom Poston and Henry Polic II. I think Henry got buzzed or cuckooed so many times during his multiple appearances.

  • Did you watch the whole week in which Tom Poston appeared? I read that Tom Poston helped the same contestant win $25,000 earlier. I would need to know which round was the anomaly.

I also think that Henry was a pretty good player when he was not buzzed. He could been one of the top players had he been buzzed less often.

  • I was wondering about the rest of that particular week when it comes to Tom Poston. Can't wait to see that on GSN.

  • In my opinion, a couple of celebrities who were worst would either have to be either Dick Cavett or Nathan Cook. I think Nathan Cook (from "Hotel") was the worst at the winners circle in tournament play than regular play of "The $100,000 Pyramid."

  • Adrienne Barbeau ("things that blossom" and "things with nuts") also got disqualified retroactively on that round's top category, "things that flicker." She said "my eyes" and blinked them. It was ruled physical (see Nathan Cook and the end of pyramid what not to do 2).

So, Dick Cavett was not the only one to be disqualified on three categories in one round.

  • Actually.. the guy kept saying "flutter" (thinking that they got the answer correct, despite it being flicker). Then afterward they were notified what the category was.

  • It is true that he never said "flicker", but they also said it would not have mattered if the contestant had answered correctly, and they explained why.

  • oh you're right... I don't know how I forgot about that.

  • Oh! Oh! Oh!

    Shut the hell up Donny!

  • Donny fails at handling Winner's Circle losses. On nearly every playing when about when there was one box left: "What was it, audience!?" Sigh.

  • Not guilty is a synonym for innocent.

  • An attorney would tell you that, legally, they're not, but since they are in common usage, I wasn't surprised at all to hear that get buzzed.

  • oh its bad spelling, It's the girl who played Blossom

  • That makes a lot of sense. Actually what went through my head was "A Joey Lawrence sitcom." lol

  • Comment removed

  • That would have been a much better way to phrase the clue and avoid the dreaded prepositional phrase.

  • Funny 0:41

  • Myiam Billok

  • *BZZZZZZ* Doesn't fit the subject; Mayim Bialik is a person, not a thing, and Blossom was her character's name, not something Mayim does.

  • 3:34 - I have to dispute this call. Just because to "shine shoes" means to polish them doesn't necessarily make the two words synonyms. Especially since the subject was "Things THAT Shine", not "Things YOU Shine". That changes the context from something you interact with to something with an inherent characteristic.

It's a real borderline call, I know, but I'd have let it go.

  • I'd have to say that they buzzed because to polish is to shine. I believe that at least for Winner's Circle purposes, they are synonymous.

  • Right, but that's the point - polished shoes shine, but shined shoes don't polish. They're asking for things *THAT* shine, so the words aren't interchangeable.

  • Wait, why was "A Clown's Face" buzzed?

  • I was wondering, too. Maybe it was because a face is not a person since the category's people who wear make-up.

  • That's right. A clown's face is not a person. Also, it leads to the key word itself which clues should not describe.

  • SOMETHING YOU PULL

    My finger.

  • There were some but not all synonyms there.

  • Yes, at 1:13, 1:22 and 3:35.

  • Also at 3:44

  • People were descriptive at 0:09, 0:22, 1:56, 2:14, 2:42, 3:22, 3:49 & 4:07

  • The celebrity with Kennedy was famed PYL player Scott Holster famous for his HONG KONG line.

  • Scott was also on "Wheel of Fortune" before I was born.

  • Scott Hostetler was also on several other game shows including Whammy!, Match Game '98, Trivial Pursuit (90's), Million Dollar Chance of a Lifetime, and Trivia Trap.

  • And the original Press Your Luck! (Hong Kong! Alright!)

  • And the 80's Press Your Luck

  • Is that Kennedy from "Friend or Foe" at 0:52?

  • Yes.

  • I like this pyramid days.

  • Wow, I never know Colin Mochrie did this show. I also remember watching 0:46 a few months ago. What a heartbreaker!

  • Yeah, considering that Colin is in so many things, you wonder how his schedule made time for that. I guess it was enough for him to fly between Vancouver and L.A. so much. He seems to have appeared on every Canadian TV show there is. They actually made a joke about it on a Canadian sitcom called "Corner Gas", where Colin made a cameo appearance.
