From Gills exposition of the bible: These "children" could have been up to 40 years old going by the Hebrew word used in the original scripture. Its important to know they knew right from wrong and they mocked one of the greatest prophets of God one who was very important to be taken seriously to bring about the coming of Christ. Effectively anyone who mocked Elijah was a threat to the salvation of the entire world. So they were killed immediately.
Man, I wish verses like this were actually true. I'm not religious in any way, but I think if more shitbags (kids and adults) were killed like this after being assholes, it would cure the world of assholes. :) Just because they're kids doesn't mean they shouldn't be killed for being disrespectful. IN fact, just about any asshole should be killed (excluding me of course). Kids dying by bears for being shits = cool. It sucks that its not a true story.
@TheKanagawaboy Wouldn't that also be a form of control? Someone has a bad day they deserve to die? What about the day I yelled at some guy cause he bumped into me? I buried my grandmother that morning after she lost a battle to cancer. So I should have been killed that day for loosing it? I'm not religious but I think there are those who need it if it will make them a better person.
@TheKanagawaboy you know if the world was just it was be sooner a foul, heartless person like you, than they. "it sucks that its not a true story" ? they called him fricken bald head. like. ugh, i just hope you're not being serious here, that's all. because if you are, you are a truly sick and vile person indeed. why aren't you christian now since you seem to somehow like these sorts of repulsive stories ?
hahhaha! way to take things outta context, i think you got lost in translation. let's see some historical reasoning and meaning of "children" the way it was originally written by the author: gotquestions(dot)org/Elisha-baldhead.html
@onotarh Sooo, whether or not it's 20yr olds or not, bear mauling is super fucking stupid answer. if the god is so damn powerful you'd think he'd find a better way to handle the situation, like o talk to the young men/children. Even in that gotquestions context, WTF is wrong with that god to brutally murdering people for mockery?
@onotarh What a poor excuse for a horribly written Bible. Christians always say that the people who read the Bible and understand it take it out of context because Christians don't understand or follow it and like to make explanations for being a hypocrite, both literally and by Jesus's right.
Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me. I guess Elisha didn't learn that in kindergarden. Apparently, the turn the other cheek rule wasn't in effect either. Elisha's a pussy! AND A BALDHEAD!!!!
First of all, the entire book of 2 Kings is about apostasy and God's judgment on the nation of Israel, not gentiles. Israel was subject the law of Moses because they agreed to obey it and accept the punishments if they didn't (Ex. 19:8). This is an instance of God enacting judgment for these "children" (anyone under the age of 20 according to the Bible) for not obeying that which he had commanded. Which was not to rebel against a prophet of God. For example, see Num. 12. Capital punishment.
@ThyWordIsTruthJn177 Make all the excuses you want to, this Bible of yours is a cruel hoax on humanity. Written by power mad primitives who thought the earth was flat.
@DivazStator We don't "hate God". We cannot hate that in which we do not believe. We do, however, hate the free reign religion has been given over our society, and, in our eyes, it's hurting more than helping.
Want the best answer to your question? Watch CultOfDusty's "Atheists Own The Internet!"
@DivazStator no hate here but i feel bad that its so funny for poor idiot christians that live their life in a fantasy world..its the same as drugs except you dont take anything, just listen to the pupit pimps and they will brainwash you into thinking that if your not nice ,you will burn in hell.what a sick concept...just a little note, unicorns are in the bible 9 times, hows that for fantasy.
jennel802009, I realize your posts are four months old but I must say, you are an ignorant fool. Mythologies on the death and resurrection of deities and demigods have existed since the dawn of civilzation. I can name names! Even early Christian writers saw the problem with this when trying to claim sole truth. Justin Martyr then claimed that Satan created all those other stories to mislead man. Satan did TIME TRAVEL! Pathetic. Rings much like creationist arguments against those pesky fossils!
Making fun of Christianity is getting so easy, pretty soon itll get really boring.................................hahah just joking, as long as ppl actually believe all that shit itll never be boring. "Im god, and now that jesus is born i can smoke weed again, ergo, im no longer pissed-off, wanna be buddies?"
I Love that tune ! Post that tune in it`s entirity, or
"I`ll fuck you up ! Yes I`ll really fuck you up ! I`ll fuck you up ! Then God will fuck you up ! We`re all fucked up ! Yes we`re truly all fucked up ! We`re all fucked up ! Really fucked up ! We`re all fucked up ! . . . . . . . . LOL
Sorry, I didn't mean to put "problem". I started to write something else before and I guess I must have forgotten to delete it. I didn't notice it until I had the comment already posted.
The thing about Christians is if we're wrong about God being real (which I know we are not), then we have nothing to lose. On the other hand, if atheists are wrong (which I know that they are), then they have everything to lose.
@jennel802009 wrong, what if muslims are right? What if hindus are right? What if Zoroastrians are right? What if mithras is the true god? What if jews are right? What if Quetzalcoatl is the real god? The list could go on and on about the plethora of god(s) that you could be ignoring and not worshiping and actually exist. So yeah, there's a lot that you could lose.
@jennel802009 but he didn't give his life up. He was executed. Didn't really have a choice in that now did he? Secondly why does god require a blood sacrifice to forgive people? Why not just forgive and skip the brutal torture and execution of an eccentric preacher?
Because the wages of sin is death (Rom. 6:23), separation from God. His sacrificial payment was necessary because noone can pay this price themselves, Rom3:23, blood is necessary to atone for sins (Lev. 17:11 cf. Heb. 9:22). Therefore to atone for sin against an eternal God, an eternal payment was necessary. Christ, God manifest in the flesh (Jn. 1:1,14), took upon himself a physical body to pay this payment for all who would accept it (Jn. 1:12), a veritable "check" if you would only cash it.
The problem thing about Christians is if we're wrong about God being real (which I know we are not), then we have nothing to lose. On the other hand, if atheists are wrong (which I know that they are), then they have everything to lose.
@jennel802009 and if the hindus, muslims or jews are right then we're both screwed. Or what if (assuming you're not catholic), the catholics are right? Then I guess I'll see you in hell.
Sorry, but none of those religions involve a Son that was sacrificed, except for catholics. Most Catholics that I know believe the same way as I do, that the only way to Heaven is through the Son.
@jennel802009 Am I to understand that you automatically reject all other religions that do not have a "son" (who is also the father) sacrificing himself to himself? In other words, because the other religions do not subscribe to your absurdity, they *must* be false?
Sometimes I wish I could understand the mind of a believer. No, not that I want to believe myself . . . just to understand . . .
. . . or maybe that would just make me crazier than I already am. ;)
You are exactly right. Jesus said that the only way to the father is through Him. Obviously their "god" didn't love them enough to sacrifice a son. You can believe if you want, but I think that some just don't want to believe because they are afraid that there really is a hell.
@jennel802009 Or maybe other gods are simply not as bloodthirsty? We *are* talking about an omnipotent being, after all. If he's *truly* omnipotent and *truly* all-loving, then no sacrifice would be necessary -- he/she/it would accept us for who we are.
What's more, if a fear of hell is *all* the motivation you have for believing in such a deity, then you are acting out of fear, and not love. Even if I were to believe in a theistic god, Christianity still painfully misses the mark!
@DionysusVoice What do you think the fear of God is? I am believing out of love too, because I believe that there is a Heaven and I want to be with Jesus after my passing. You also twisted my words a little bit, too. I said that people don't want to believe because THEY are afraid that there is a hell, which should give them more reason to believe. You have your choice of not believing in God, but we will see who is right in the end my friend. I will pray for you.
@jennel802009 You answered your own first question: Fear of hell = fear of god. And you're right: To believe and fear hell *is* a reason to accept Christianity, so your earlier comment "II think that some just don't want to believe because they are afraid that there really is a hell" is downright idiotic. One must *first* believe the Christian religion *before* they believe in the existence of hell. Since I believe neither (and have never been provided with ample evidence to do so), I do not.
@DionysusVoice, have you had a chance to read The Great Controversy, The Secret History of the Jesuits, and The Keys of This Blood? Check it out. Thanks. ellenwhiteestate. organization.
@jennel802009 that's called pascals wager and it fails miserably. If you're wrong about muslims you go to hell. If you're wrong about jews you go to sheoul. If you're wrong about hindus, ancient greeks, shinto, buddhism...I think you can see where I'm going
christianity is not the only option there are in fact thousands of gods that you do not believe in. if you're wrong about even one of them you're in the same boat.
@jennel802009 You're entitled to your beliefs, but if I have no belief to start with, the story of you're myth is no more compelling a reason to believe you're religion that any other. So, it is not a 50-50 proposition.
Besides, if you're god is real, I'm pretty sure he could tell if I was just going through the motions and believing just to hedge my bet. Do you the he'd buy that?
@jennel802009 Catholicism is christianity. Its the Christianity ver 1.0 for crying out loud. Why does the sacrifice of one's own self to one's self necessitate truth? How does that make it correct and all others false?
Catholicism is not christianity if you just read a bible, Rev. 2-3. Christ condemns Nicolaity. Catholicism didn't originate until 300 AD. Pagan Rome, not being able to destroy christians, enjoined with it and corrupted it from the inside. You will not find the Papacy, Mass/Eucharist, Ex Cathedra, college of cardinals, etc. anywhere in the bible. The biggest persecutor of Christianity is the Catholic Church.- Also, Buddha, Muhammed, Confucious are all dead and laying in graves.
@ThyWordIsTruthJn177 Actually it is christianity. Like it or not, it came first, before there was Luther or the protestant movement, there was the catholic church. Theres all sorts of traditions and nuances surrounding christianity that aren't in the bible but are just as equally apart of it. I would contend that the character known as jesus is dead as well and his remains are somewhere in some physical form on this earth.
@ThyWordIsTruthJn177 However for the sake of argument lets say that the resurrection really did happen. That he really was born of a virgin and all the other fairy tales myths surrounding the character Jesus. I'll accept all those as true for the sake of the argument. With all that being so, it still does not mean that what Jesus says is true or moral. Imagine someone telling you I'm right because my mom was a virgin and I came back to life after being dead, thats why I'm right. It means nothing
@shonkey You presuppose anti-supernaturalism, which is scientifically and philosophically irresponsible. To assume that all things work together within your realm of understanding is ridiculous.
@ThyWordIsTruthJn177 No it isn't scientifically irresponsible. Science by definition does away w/supernatural explanations, it is explaining phenomenon through natural means. It may very well be that there is some god of some sort pulling the strings of reality, however, knowing this fact does nothing to explain ANYTHING. No equations or truths can be derived from the idea that magic man done it. This is why science uses NATURAL explanations. So no, it isn't scientifically irresponsible, FAIL
@ThyWordIsTruthJn177 And as for your philosophical irresponsibility claim, the burden of proof rests on those making the claims. I and other atheists make no claim that no god exists. On the contrary it is the theist that says god exists, and that they know the will of god. This is a foolish position to take and it holds no validity within reality. Philosophically speaking, the burden of proof is on those making the positive claims. The onus is on you to provide evidence, which so far is lacking
@jennel802009 Furthermore, there's always a possibility that *all* human religions are wrong. Considering how much they all contradict each other, this is the most likely situation.
What if you were to die only to find out that god was upset at you for believing in the simplistic depiction of him in the Bible? or the Koran? or any other book people consider to be "holy"? What if he prefers people who think for themselves and don't feel the need to follow a bronze-age religion?
Nobody's trying to disrespect anyone's religion, but there are just curious things in the bible that should be addressed and that's what these videos are trying to do. They are not trying to confuse anyone further than they probably already are.
This is great stuff. I'm so glad that creative people are taking time to produce videos like this. All religion is laughable and it seems with a little creativity it is hilarious!!
I highly doubt this ever actually happened. :D It's funny that people actually need to say what I just did.
This guy was just going home and writing a story on how two bears eat the children mocking him, because he wsa taking things a wee bit to oseriously. Once he had written this down he went to bed imagining it and feeling comfort.
@aaronk1994 yea that justifies slaughtering them and feeding them to bears. Fuck if this magic man can do anything why not just teleport the kids away
@DionysusVoice See, but this is why he sent down his son TO DIE FOR YOUR SORRY SINS. He apparently had a change of heart for no real reason. So he killed his son instead of everybody else. Maybe we were getting low on people.
When the young men said “Go on up”, this was a sarcastic reference to Elijah’s ascension, a suggestion that the event is doubted and that it is a charge that Elisha actually murdered his master and that his mourning is a sham. These youths were also very likely members of a gang which robbed people of their lives and property, and were responsible for innocent people starving.
The young men would have also attacked Elisha if he had done nothing, since they wanted him dead.
@aaronk1994: Man - you really just do make this shit up don't you? Where in the wide-wide world of sports does it say those children were in a gang or that "Go on up" has anything to do with ascension?
In our situation, we have strayed from Yahuah and gone with sin. The obvious is, with sin our fate is hell. Yah is jealous for us because he loves us so immeasurably. Yet, we are so caught up in the carnal world that we chase after sin and refuse to repent. Thus, Yah pleads with us because he can save us even though we have fallen and have been ensnared. He does not wish for us to go to hell. However, sin is not concerned for us. As long as we keep worshipping sin, sin will always make us happy.
Many people cannot understand why Yahuah would be jealous. He isn't jealous of us, but for us. It's egotistical to believe he's jealous of us. A sound mind wouldn't even conceive such a notion. When you have a loved one dear to you, you will better figure out the reason behind the jealousy of Yah. When you love someone so great, you wish to be by their side always and to help them and protect them.
The knowledge of good and evil is to be just in order to perform correctly. The incorrect act and you will sin. Yah said, become angry yet do not sin. Is that impossible? No. It requires maturity, wisdom. In the evil Yah brought, we only see the evil and not the reason why he did evil. We judge him by the evil he did and not by what caused him to do the evil. Yah does not punish on a whim. We on the other hand, do evil and sin. Then it gets worse, we confuse sin and evil and even combine them.
Evil is the absence of holiness. Sin wasn't created by Yah, it is there because it's the opposite of holiness. In life, there is only life, in truth. Not the life in our carnal understanding. Life doesn't coincide with death. Death is the absence of life, as we see in our world. In truth of life, if you stray from it, you simply die. Life is a narrow walk because it is a perfect straight path. Death is like the abyss beyond the edges of the path. Walk out of life and there you end up in hell.
Yah does not punish without first warning that there are consequences if you do otherwise. The consequences comes naturally after the action. You reap what you sow. For example, if you don't eat regularly, you become malnourished. If you don't study, you don't gain knowledge. If you sit around, you waste time, etc. However, the matter of sin is most serious because you will die. Thus, being a most serious matter, Yah is very serious that we do not stray from the path back to life or we'll die.
The actions of Abba Yahuah is so great and terrible that it is either great good or great evil. However, what many do not understand is that in his evil, he does not sin. Not only is he the almighty but his actions are just. In punishing and disciplining, we only see the evil, not why he does evil. The evil doesn't come without first a warning. The consequences are made clear in the beginning; eat of the fruit and you shall ''surely'' die; break the laws and you will suffer the curses.
Walk beyond your scope of a box and stop judging from deceitful innuendo, and embrace the truth. Yahuah is all powerful, all wise, all seeing, and all that is good. The reason why he seems so terrible and evil is because we lack understanding. Yah is perfect in all ways. We are imperfect in all ways. For an imperfect to judge a perfect, what will you expect? Only bias opinions, false. Yah can be both good and evil yet he does not sin. Does that sound impossible or backwards? Far from it.
To mock or war against an anointed prophet of Yah is mocking and warring against Yah himself. To act out of foolishness reaps horrible consequences, a character that is not a virtue. Many people die or hurt not only because of sin, wickedness, but due to foolishness.
@Noah837 So, basically, you are flaunting that you believe in an unjust god? because even if they weren't kids, but supposedly young adults, and even if mocking a prophet is somehow wrong (if god is as powerful as he seems, a little criticism from the equivalent of an ant wouldn't even be worthy of his notice), then the sentence of death is *still* unjust. You have proven no points with your statements, except for mine.
The translation of ''children'' is farfetched because it should of rendered young men. Plural, because in verse 24 we see that there were 42 of them. We see that it wasn't little kids mocking him, but a mob of young men. The sarcastic taunt in this context is not referring to Elisha traveling to Bethel. They are mocking the prophets of Yahuah, especially that Elisha repeat Elijah's translation.
the vidoe is hilarious - that actually happened to me - i am bald & some kids made fun of me in chicago - good thing i didn't ask this "god" for help.
Hell is a vile, abusive, disgusting concept. God buys love & loyalty with torture? A Gandhi, Teresa, Mandela would never think of torturing their enemies, whereas a Saddam, Hitler, Stalin would. This is the company that God keeps? Karma & Rebirth is the better, non-violent way. You are not punished, nor are you simply forgiven because you begged enough. The most important aspect of Karma is that you are held accountable for your actions, you are reborn, given another chance to make amends.
Yes, "He turned around, looked at them and called down a curse on them in the name of the LORD. Thentwobearscameoutofthewoodsandmauledforty-twooftheyouths"
Easy...the kids were vessels of wrath fitted to destruction....Ordained to Hell before they were born. The majority of the world are vessel's of wrath. Old baldy was a vessel of mercy, or God's elect. Nice try though. I bet you drive the free will believing Christians crazy with this :P
Sorry, nowhere in that entire verse (nor in the PM you sent me) does it say that the "youths" were anything *but* youths. You're showing me some verses where it states that God will strike down evil, and more or less *assuming* that the youths were "vessel's of wrath". Do you have any verses that say -- SPECIFICALLY -- that these were anything *but* youths?
"It is my only explanation to that story." - and there we have it, ladies and jellyspoons, exactly why Christians are deluded. As soon as there's something in the Bible that sounds like God is evil, or doing something wrong, we'll just make up a mind-bending excuse to make it sound better (and still fail, because God creating vessels just to do evil and then die sounds pretty horrible to me).
I never tried to sugar coat the evil God does. I thank God for all the good and evil he brings into my life. The Lord giveith and the Lord taketh away. I bless God's authority. May his will be done.
And more importantly, why would a god create a non-free-will robot that he would destroy before it had a chance to do harm? Why not simply not create them in the first place? Wouldn't it be more merciful to not allow someone to exist in the first place, then to create them, then destroy them (in an agonizing death) *before* they can do evil? Very little of your argument makes much sense.
I agree it doesn't make sense to us his creation. I mean we didnt ask to be born and yet he makes a majority of us that will never have the desire to seek after him.
Rom9:17 For the Scripture says to Pharaoh: "I raised you up for this very purpose, that I might display my power in you and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth."
He never gave Pharoah Ramses the 2nd a chance to accept Christ. He put him down in the bottom of the red sea so all the world could witness his power.
......Um you know Pharoah Ramses live 1200 years before the birth of Jesus of Nazareth so he wouldn't have a chance to accept him anyways.....that would also go for mosses as well.
well in a way he did believe in God/s. And Jesus is the sun of god the messiah. The Christian god has had many names given to it by man first notably was the Egyptian Amon Ra, and Ramses worshiped Horus who life is word for word all what Jesus did (virgin birth, walk on water, rise again 3 days later).
Ra became Yahweh to the Hebrews, till Christianity too over re-dubbing it Jehovah.....and is now refereed to simply as God that confuses the international community to no end.
Actually the first was Tammuz, Virgin son of Nimrod and Semiramis...the Babylonian trinity. They are the same false deities represented in Egypt as Osiris Ra, Isis, and their virgin son Horus....both 1 and 2 thousand years before Christ. The only difference between Tammuz/horus, and Jesus is that Jesus was real flesh and blood. The others Pagan Gods are myths.....God works in mysterious ways eh?
"In the unity of the Godhead there are three persons, the father, the son, and the holy spirit, these three persons being truly distinct from from another. Thus, in the words of the Athanasian creed: the father is god, the son is god, and the holy spirit is god, and yet there are not three gods but one god."
ramses was before christ, so how could he accept him? there weren't even any christians then just jews, so basically im wondering wtf are you talkin about?!?!
to mock a prophetic was to mock god(in those times). so the youths were mauled by bears to show what happens to those that mcok god. So just you keep on mocking all you athiest :)
I was under the impression that God was unchanging. So why doesn't that apply still today? So many mock yet I see no smiting happening. Oh, I know, that's because it's just a fictional story meant to scare people into submission....I get it now.
where do you get God is unchanging? Also Where do you get the story is fictional?
I find it hard to take someones advice about God from someone whom appears to believe not in God. (who made you the God expert? Seems i get it now. you make something up to justify your belief about god and his stories so that you can convince people to believe you. choice: believe a moral god or believe a liar, you?
Have you ever lied at least once? ( if so that makes you a liar.)
and their is tons of proof the bible is true. people and place are found yearly that existed in the bible. Daniel was real archealogical records where found that the people involded in the book of daniel are real. king david was proven to be real. Jesus was a real person that was crucified on a cross. no only from biblical records but also roman records.
How 'bout the parts where bats are referred to as "birds" and whales as "fish"?
And since you're placing challenges, I'd like to be shown a Roman document proving that Jesus was crucified. After 2000 years of searching for evidence of Jesus, that must've been a really big thing. So point me in the right direction, please.
Oh, and even if 100% of the characters in the Bible are proven to have existed at one time, that just means the Bible is a historical fiction, nothing more.
"probably becuase they had no classification system." I don't care WHY it's false -- it's FALSE. PERIOD. You asked for a fiction, and you were given one. Your response is an admission that it is a fiction.
No, not all histories are fictional. The ones that are backed up by writings from the people who lived (like Abraham Lincoln) which also match writings from people who knew of them make history. The Bible is a single account which has NEVER had a third-party source prove its reliability.
False because they had no other way to explain it. hmmm hope that the rain stays water and we don't have to call it an H2O molecule. because everytime it rains i would be lying. (gee Tom its H2Oing again)
third parties are abundant (egyption hieroglyphics, babylonian accounts, greek accounts, roman accounts)
That's a rather poor analogy. H2O is, after all, the exact same thing as water. It doesn't matter if you say rain is falling, water is falling, or H2O is falling -- it's all the same.
Bats, however, are *NOT* birds.
Whales are *NOT* fish.
If a god wrote this and didn't want to be confusing, he could have simply said "creatures that fly" or "beasts that swim". Instead something was written that is 100% *NOT TRUE*. This is the work of MAN, and *NOT* of an all-knowing deity.
no other way to explain it !!! you are missing the point. It was written so that the people of that time(age, era) could understand. they thought bats were birds so to call it something else would cause confusion.
"rain is falling" - it can rain many things other than water so this statement is untrue. so it is not all the same. > rain blood, rain brimstone, rain ash, acid rain.
Perfection is subjective. What may be perfect to you is evil to me. For example, for god to be perfect (to me) he would have to be a she, and she would have to be beautiful and scantily clad.
Apparently for you he has to be a murderous incarnation of evil.
2+2=4 is a perfect answer and I am not dreaming. so perfect does exist. this equation is not even subjective. If i am wrong then make 2+2= something other than 4.
living beings change from time to time, but things like this: 2+2=4 is always true. Since this is the only answer for 2+2, makes it perfect. But we are talking about different thing in this thread. You're taking my statement literally which is 'perfect only exist in dreams'. I should say: perfect BEINGS only exist in dreams.
Fuckin hilarious!!!

@onotarh What a poor excuse for a horribly written Bible. Christians always say that the people who read the Bible and understand it take it out of context because Christians don't understand or follow it and like to make explanations for being a hypocrite, both literally and by Jesus's right.

12. Capital punishment.

jennel802009, I realize your posts are four months old but I must say, you are an ignorant fool.

@shonkey Then I will just take my chances and believe in the One who gave His life up for me.
jennel802009 1 year ago
@jennel802009 but he didn't give his life up. He was executed. Didn't really have a choice in that now did he? Secondly why does god require a blood sacrifice to forgive people? Why not just forgive and skip the brutal torture and execution of an eccentric preacher?
shonkey 1 year ago 4
Because the wages of sin is death (Rom. 6:23), separation from God. His sacrificial payment was necessary because noone can pay this price themselves, Rom3:23, blood is necessary to atone for sins (Lev. 17:11 cf. Heb. 9:22). Therefore to atone for sin against an eternal God, an eternal payment was necessary. Christ, God manifest in the flesh (Jn. 1:1,14), took upon himself a physical body to pay this payment for all who would accept it (Jn. 1:12), a veritable "check" if you would only cash it.

binkey 1 year ago
@binkey
Sorry, but none of those religions involve a Son that was sacrificed, except for catholics. Most Catholics that I know believe the same way as I do, that the only way to Heaven is through the Son.
jennel802009 1 year ago
@jennel802009 Am I to understand that you automatically reject all other religions that do not have a "son" (who is also the father) sacrificing himself to himself? In other words, because the other religions do not subscribe to your absurdity, they *must* be false?
Sometimes I wish I could understand the mind of a believer. No, not that I want to believe myself . . . just to understand . . .
. . . or maybe that would just make me crazier than I already am. ;)
DionysusVoice 1 year ago
@DionysusVoice
You are exactly right. Jesus said that the only way to the father is through Him. Obviously their "god" didn't love them enough to sacrifice a son. You can believe if you want, but I think that some just don't want to believe because they are afraid that there really is a hell.
jennel802009 1 year ago
@jennel802009 Or maybe other gods are simply not as bloodthirsty? We *are* talking about an omnipotent being, after all. If he's *truly* omnipotent and *truly* all-loving, then no sacrifice would be necessary -- he/she/it would accept us for who we are.
What's more, if a fear of hell is *all* the motivation you have for believing in such a deity, then you are acting out of fear, and not love. Even if I were to believe in a theistic god, Christianity still painfully misses the mark!
DionysusVoice 1 year ago
@DionysusVoice What do you think the fear of God is? I am believing out of love too, because I believe that there is a Heaven and I want to be with Jesus after my passing. You also twisted my words a little bit, too. I said that people don't want to believe because THEY are afraid that there is a hell, which should give them more reason to believe. You have your choice of not believing in God, but we will see who is right in the end my friend. I will pray for you.
jennel802009 1 year ago
@jennel802009 You answered your own first question: Fear of hell = fear of god. And you're right: To believe and fear hell *is* a reason to accept Christianity, so your earlier comment "II think that some just don't want to believe because they are afraid that there really is a hell" is downright idiotic. One must *first* believe the Christian religion *before* they believe in the existence of hell. Since I believe neither (and have never been provided with ample evidence to do so), I do not.

TheLostGuitarist 1 year ago
@jennel802009 You're entitled to your beliefs, but if I have no belief to start with, the story of you're myth is no more compelling a reason to believe you're religion that any other. So, it is not a 50-50 proposition.
Besides, if you're god is real, I'm pretty sure he could tell if I was just going through the motions and believing just to hedge my bet. Do you the he'd buy that?
binkey 1 year ago 3
@jennel802009 Catholicism is christianity. Its the Christianity ver 1.0 for crying out loud. Why does the sacrifice of one's own self to one's self necessitate truth? How does that make it correct and all others false?
shonkey 1 year ago 3
Catholicism is not christianity if you just read a bible, Rev. 2-3. Christ condemns Nicolaity. Catholicism didn't originate until 300 AD. Pagan Rome, not being able to destroy christians, enjoined with it and corrupted it from the inside. You will not find the Papacy, Mass/Eucharist, Ex Cathedra, college of cardinals, etc. anywhere in the bible. The biggest persecutor of Christianity is the Catholic Church.- Also, Buddha, Muhammed, Confucious are all dead and laying in graves.
ThyWordIsTruthJn177 9 months ago
@ThyWordIsTruthJn177 Actually it is christianity. Like it or not, it came first, before there was Luther or the protestant movement, there was the catholic church. Theres all sorts of traditions and nuances surrounding christianity that aren't in the bible but are just as equally apart of it. I would contend that the character known as jesus is dead as well and his remains are somewhere in some physical form on this earth.
shonkey 9 months ago
@ThyWordIsTruthJn177 However for the sake of argument lets say that the resurrection really did happen. That he really was born of a virgin and all the other fairy tales myths surrounding the character Jesus. I'll accept all those as true for the sake of the argument. With all that being so, it still does not mean that what Jesus says is true or moral. Imagine someone telling you I'm right because my mom was a virgin and I came back to life after being dead, thats why I'm right. It means nothing
shonkey 9 months ago
@shonkey You presuppose anti-supernaturalism, which is scientifically and philosophically irresponsible. To assume that all things work together within your realm of understanding is ridiculous.
ThyWordIsTruthJn177 9 months ago
@ThyWordIsTruthJn177 No it isn't scientifically irresponsible. Science by definition does away w/supernatural explanations, it is explaining phenomenon through natural means. It may very well be that there is some god of some sort pulling the strings of reality, however, knowing this fact does nothing to explain ANYTHING. No equations or truths can be derived from the idea that magic man done it. This is why science uses NATURAL explanations. So no, it isn't scientifically irresponsible, FAIL
shonkey 9 months ago
@ThyWordIsTruthJn177 And as for your philosophical irresponsibility claim, the burden of proof rests on those making the claims. I and other atheists make no claim that no god exists. On the contrary it is the theist that says god exists, and that they know the will of god. This is a foolish position to take and it holds no validity within reality. Philosophically speaking, the burden of proof is on those making the positive claims. The onus is on you to provide evidence, which so far is lacking
shonkey 9 months ago
@jennel802009 Furthermore, there's always a possibility that *all* human religions are wrong. Considering how much they all contradict each other, this is the most likely situation.
What if you were to die only to find out that god was upset at you for believing in the simplistic depiction of him in the Bible? or the Koran? or any other book people consider to be "holy"? What if he prefers people who think for themselves and don't feel the need to follow a bronze-age religion?

When the young men said “Go on up”, this was a sarcastic reference to Elijah’s ascension, a suggestion that the event is doubted and that it is a charge that Elisha actually murdered his master and that his mourning is a sham. These youths were also very likely members of a gang which robbed people of their lives and property, and were responsible for innocent people starving.
The young men would have also attacked Elisha if he had done nothing, since they wanted him dead.

Noah837 1 year ago

Noah837 1 year ago
This has been flagged as spam show
Evil is the absence of holiness.
Noah837 1 year ago
Yah does not punish without first warning that there are consequences if you do otherwise. The consequences comes naturally after the action. You reap what you sow. For example, if you don't eat regularly, you become malnourished. If you don't study, you don't gain knowledge. If you sit around, you waste time, etc. However, the matter of sin is most serious because you will die. Thus, being a most serious matter, Yah is very serious that we do not stray from the path back to life or we'll die.
Noah837 1 year ago

The actions of Abba Yahuah is so great and terrible that it is either great good or great evil. However, what many do not understand is that in his evil, he does not sin. Not only is he the almighty but his actions are just. In punishing and disciplining, we only see the evil, not why he does evil. The evil doesn't come without first a warning. The consequences are made clear in the beginning; eat of the fruit and you shall ''surely'' die; break the laws and you will suffer the curses.
Noah837 1 year ago

Walk beyond your scope of a box and stop judging from deceitful innuendo, and embrace the truth. Yahuah is all powerful, all wise, all seeing, and all that is good. The reason why he seems so terrible and evil is because we lack understanding. Yah is perfect in all ways. We are imperfect in all ways. For an imperfect to judge a perfect, what will you expect? Only bias opinions, false. Yah can be both good and evil yet he does not sin. Does that sound impossible or backwards? Far from it.
Noah837 1 year ago

To mock or war against an anointed prophet of Yah is mocking and warring against Yah himself. To act out of foolishness reaps horrible consequences, a character that is not a virtue. Many people die or hurt not only because of sin, wickedness, but due to foolishness.
Noah837 1 year ago
@Noah837 So, basically, you are flaunting that you believe in an unjust god? because even if they weren't kids, but supposedly young adults, and even if mocking a prophet is somehow wrong (if god is as powerful as he seems, a little criticism from the equivalent of an ant wouldn't even be worthy of his notice), then the sentence of death is *still* unjust. You have proven no points with your statements, except for mine.
DionysusVoice 1 year ago
The translation of ''children'' is farfetched because it should of rendered young men. Plural, because in verse 24 we see that there were 42 of them. We see that it wasn't little kids mocking him, but a mob of young men. The sarcastic taunt in this context is not referring to Elisha traveling to Bethel. They are mocking the prophets of Yahuah, especially that Elisha repeat Elijah's translation.

Wouldn't it be more merciful to not allow someone to exist in the first place, then to create them, then destroy them (in an agonizing death) *before* they can do evil? Very little of your argument makes much sense.

well in a way he did believe in God/s.

Oh but I will!

I'll take god everytime.
Javahkr 3 years ago
Where do I get God is unchanging? Years and years and years of christian ministers and pastors and bishops beating it into my brain.
And the bible is fictional. There is no proof to the contrary. There is plenty of proof that the bible is a fabrication however.
So, what makes me a liar? You can't prove anything I say is a lie. Oh wait, you're a christian. Therefore you merely call me a liar and it's true.
And I really don't care if anybody believes me, I don't know where you got that from.
Azrhei 3 years ago
Have you ever lied at least once? ( if so that makes you a liar.)
and their is tons of proof the bible is true. people and place are found yearly that existed in the bible. Daniel was real archealogical records where found that the people involded in the book of daniel are real. king david was proven to be real. Jesus was a real person that was crucified on a cross. no only from biblical records but also roman records.
So tell me a fictional part about the bible. plz.
Javahkr 3 years ago
How 'bout the parts where bats are referred to as "birds" and whales as "fish"?
And since you're placing challenges, I'd like to be shown a Roman document proving that Jesus was crucified. After 2000 years of searching for evidence of Jesus, that must've been a really big thing. So point me in the right direction, please.
Oh, and even if 100% of the characters in the Bible are proven to have existed at one time, that just means the Bible is a historical fiction, nothing more.
DionysusVoice 3 years ago
Things that fly in the air = birds, swim in the sea = fish. general terms probably becuase they had no classification system.
OK Tacitus ( roman historian)
so all histories are fictional? by your reasoning then Lincoln was never president?
Javahkr 3 years ago
"probably becuase they had no classification system." I don't care WHY it's false -- it's FALSE. PERIOD. You asked for a fiction, and you were given one. Your response is an admission that it is a fiction.
No, not all histories are fictional. The ones that are backed up by writings from the people who lived (like Abraham Lincoln) which also match writings from people who knew of them make history. The Bible is a single account which has NEVER had a third-party source prove its reliability.
DionysusVoice 3 years ago
False because they had no other way to explain it. hmmm hope that the rain stays water and we don't have to call it an H2O molecule. because everytime it rains i would be lying. (gee Tom its H2Oing again)
third parties are abundant (egyption hieroglyphics, babylonian accounts, greek accounts, roman accounts)
Javahkr 2 years ago
That's a rather poor analogy. H2O is, after all, the exact same thing as water. It doesn't matter if you say rain is falling, water is falling, or H2O is falling -- it's all the same.
Bats, however, are *NOT* birds.
Whales are *NOT* fish.
If a god wrote this and didn't want to be confusing, he could have simply said "creatures that fly" or "beasts that swim". Instead something was written that is 100% *NOT TRUE*. This is the work of MAN, and *NOT* of an all-knowing deity.
DionysusVoice 2 years ago
no other way to explain it !!! you are missing the point. It was written so that the people of that time(age, era) could understand. they thought bats were birds so to call it something else would cause confusion.
"rain is falling" - it can rain many things other than water so this statement is untrue. so it is not all the same. > rain blood, rain brimstone, rain ash, acid rain.

God is evil

If god is perfect, he wouldn't need to change. Unless perfection changes.
Thatonedude917 2 years ago
God is perfect. Man is flawed.
Javahkr 2 years ago
Perfection is subjective. What may be perfect to you is evil to me. For example, for god to be perfect (to me) he would have to be a she, and she would have to be beautiful and scantily clad.
Apparently for you he has to be a murderous incarnation of evil.
Thatonedude917 2 years ago
Exactly! thats why men/women are flawed!! God is perfect. But you are not :)
so you will need a standard to determine perfect. the standard is God. your subjective idea of pefect is wrong :)
Javahkr 2 years ago
In my opinion, your god is not perfect. If he's the standard, we need a new standard. =D
Thatonedude917 2 years ago 2
LOL opinion! this is not a perfect answer.
:)
Javahkr 2 years ago
In your opinion. Hehe
Thatonedude917 2 years ago
Yep, God is perfect, but he's not real anyway because perfects only exist in dreams! LOL!
angreys 2 years ago
2+2=4 is a perfect answer and I am not dreaming. so perfect does exist. this equation is not even subjective. If i am wrong then make 2+2= something other than 4.
Javahkr 2 years ago
2+2=4, this is correct, since 4-2=2. even god can't deny that nor make it wrong.
angreys 2 years ago
then you agree that perfect exist. which makes your earlier statement "perfect only exist in dreams" a lie.
Javahkr 2 years ago
living beings change from time to time, but things like this: 2+2=4 is always true. Since this is the only answer for 2+2, makes it perfect. But we are talking about different thing in this thread. You're taking my statement literally which is 'perfect only exist in dreams'. I should say: perfect BEINGS only exist in dreams.
