  • @wjddusdnwjddusdn agree

  • WOWW u ACTUALLY took the time to do tis.... this is awesome almost EXACTLY like it!

  • Really good and really close, but certain things semt a little off. And it needed to be a tad bit faster in my opinion. Still this is the best version I have seen of this particular cover on youtube. Check out my cover to Dueling Guitars from this movie. I havent seen any as accurate as mine.

  • Awesome man !

  • if u made a video on how to tune that way u would be my hero!! i just can't get it right. i think ill need the delay as well

  • You need a chromatic tuner. Just remember you are tuning down, not up. The strings will be really loose.

  • Hey this is great, could u please tell me the tunning, i tried dadgad but idon't think its right

  • Thanks Guitarfingers99! Tuning info is found in the video description to the right of the video window.

  • This is great!

  • THE most amazing Bari Improv cover out there =)

It sounds exactly like the one in August Rush.

One question: did you figure this out yourself? I'm thinking you did =D You perform with the enthusiasm as August, you're amazing!

But please, any chance of a tutorial? Would love to learn this.

    Keep up your amazing skills!

  • Thx oldavid1. Yes, I transcribed this myself. I'm glad you liked it.

  • Hey, sounds awesome!

I'm just afraid if I tune my guitar like this my strings will snap.. is there something special I should do? Switch strings or anything?

  • They shouldnt snap because they arent getting tuned up you are just dropping them down try that and if they snap tuned down then your guitar has a problem lol.

  • omg it really sounds like it :]

    soo good :]

  • Thx, kay3veno.

  • u have amazing control i can only dream of being as good as you but im still going to try lol

  • Thanks so much SlamMetalPuppet3. Keep working hard and have fun!

    Christiana

  • As usual, great stuff Craig!

  • It is. I've been awakened to youtube and I think you should name your channel, "Craigs list". Good to see you.

  • Craig - unbelievable. I found out from Doug L. that you were on here, and I am amazed. This one was unbelievable, but Panama took me back to my Sr. Year. Of course you teaching me to play at my wedding was the best. You're great.

  • Thanks! Trying to decipher the username....Is this Jones from U of M?

  • Wow, the action is so high on this guitar... great job!

  • nice sounded close to the movie im tryin to learn this. i know parts of it already just from playing around with my guitar. new at the whole guita thing. but i am gonna get this song if i dont get nothing else. lol anyways loved it good job

  • can you play this on a normal acoustic or do you have to have an acoustic/electric?

  • You can play it on any acoustic guitar, but it would need to be amplified some way in order to add the echo part.

  • thanks :)

  • This is completely amazing. I love it.

  • awesomeeeeeee dude!

u got tab for this ??

  • ey! i agree! if there are tabs to this please do tell!! :D

  • I got it! thankyyou so much! sorry for all of the Qs

  • do you have a tab for this?

  • No.

  • No.

  • this style of playing is usually improv hence

bari "improv" for me i play on FACFCF and its like combing drums with guitar beats and melody and its all good

  • I'm amazed. I love it.

  • BRAVOOOO..

  • So I'm checking my account today, for the first time in months. After one of my videos finishes playing as I'm reading comments, this one of yours get recommended to me.... small world my man. And nice playing!

  • Small world, indeed. Drop me a line man. I'd love to catch up.

  • so yea umm suprised no one asked this yet,but what are your delay settings set t? i understand it wus a dry signal witha addedd delay later but could you fill me in as colse as possible? plz and thank you>

  • Unfortunately I didn't keep the project file which contains those settings; just the finished recording. I know it was a digital delay modeler for which I just set the slapback to coincide with Kaki's recording. Since the song starts with a slap followed by a pause, it was real easy to get close with just a few seconds of noodling. Good luck and sorry I can't be more specific.

  • last time i tryid to tune my guitar for this song my strings broke apperently everyone else got it! but im afraid to try and play it again.

  • Sorry to hear that. It sounds like you are trying to tune up rather than down. Just remember, if you are in standard tuning (440) that none of the strings require you to tune up. The tuning is low, thus the strings are very loose. String breakage due to tension shouldn't be a problem with this tuning. Good luck.

  • freakin amazing

  • theres no way i can tune my b string up to an e. do u just put on two e strings?

  • No. You have to tune your B string down to an e, not up. It's a low tuning,

  • Wow !! Thats just unbelievable, i didnt think it was possible to play guitar that way (you proved me wrong :=)

  • how do you do the harmonics at 0:20-0:23? their all on the twelf fret it seems but how are you making the different pitches?

  • I'm simply tapping on the fret wire at the 12th fret with the side of my index finger to generate the harmonics. The pitch shift is just a result of the alt tuning.

  • alright thanks man ill have to play around with that for while now.

  • ... speechless.

  • Thanks man. I really appreciate it.

  • Hi I'm curious, what tuning is this?

  • CGCGEC - low to high

  • do you have tabs for this song??

  • Sorry, I just learned it by ear.

  • i enjoyed it, thanx for vid

  • Thank YOU for checking it out and taking the time to comment.

  • Well I believe he is playing it and he is f-ing fantastic!

  • how?:S

  • lol what are u talking about, there is no music in the background lol. hes actually playing that. i know the song/tunning its in, and hes playing it right. you must not play guitar, or ud be able to tell.

  • Greetings dyakez, and thanks for the compliment. Scroll thru the comments here and you'll notice a few astute viewers have correctly pointed out that this version takes a couple of minor detours from Kaki's original. Sorry you're not convinced, but the playing is all mine - warts and all. At any rate, thanks for stopping by.

  • you can hear the "mistakes" he does... what the F*** are you talking about? oh great one mate... you're awesome..

  • Thanks for the support, badmintonlover. Glad you enjoyed it.

  • nice shirt!

  • LOL...good eye :)

  • good job m8!

  • Thanks!

  • good job m8!

  • what pedal did you use for the reverb?

  • I used a custom delay in Adobe Audition (software plugin). Any delay pedal would do though.

  • you. are. my. hero.

tabs maybe?? if you would respond to this that would be great. even if the answer is no. at least i know my comment was not ignored. :)

very impressed, you got a great style i love it. i've been in awe of slap fret since i was a kid. still learning!!! you rock it hard!!!

  • Hey, thanks for stopping by. I didn't use tab for this so I'm not really sure what is out there. Check the tuning in the video info on the right. If there's a particular spot that's giving you trouble, just drop me a line.

    Regards ~

  • thanks. i can semy practice on an acoustic i have, but i dont have a delay pedal yet. do you know how much i would be put out of budget to get one??

  • I'm sure there are many budget models, but a Boss DD or Line 6 DL-4 are solid options that have some resell value if you ever want to unload them. Retail is about $100 for the DD-3 and $250 for the DL-4. For this recording I didn't actually use a delay pedal, I recorded the signal dry and then added delay via software plug-in.

  • you got the slap down pretty good dude, i have to admit, but your notes are off. :(

  • what makes this video is not the good playing, its the redsox hat!!!

  • Dirtdogs forever!

  • dude that was good

  • Thanks!

  • hey thanks for the suggestion! you got tabs for this? hahahah

you are soooo good....would you say you're better than Kaki King herself? :P

  • How do you play like that? Do you know anywhere that teaches that style?

I tried figuring it out... ehh. Haha.

  • how do you tune your guitar for this song? do you mind making a tutorial for this? thanks i'd appreciate it alot. you're really talented

  • Tuning, low to high, is CGCGEC. I would suggest a chromatic tuner which can handle accurate tunings in the lower register. I use a Boss TU-2, but there are many good options out there. Best of luck!

  • Craig, in terms of those tunings, it may seem dumb to ask, but I guess it's worth checking - how I'm playing this is:

    C (2 steps down from standard E)

    G (1 step up)

    C (1 step down)

    G (standard)

    E (standard high E)

C (2 steps down from standard high e)

Is that the right notes or have I screwed up any octaves in there?

  • It's been a while since I've played this...it sounds about right, except for the G tuned up - it should go down. Best way to tell by ear is by listening to the harmonics that are hit on the 12th fret. They all use open strings, so just tune to that and you are good to go.

  • Congrats Craig! Best rendition I've seen/heard on Youtube to date! Keep up the good work! And go Red Sox! :)

  • Always good to hear from another Sox fan. Thanks for stopping by!

  • your guitar is electroacoustic, or electroclassic?

  • It is an acoustic guitar with a Fishman in it, which essentially offers two amplified sources; the preamp and a mounted mic inside of the guitar. This setup allows you to blend both signals. For this recording I ran one signal direct from the preamp and also miced the guitar near the soundhole. I then blended both tracks and added delay.

  • Good fucking show bro. I'd love to get my hand on the tabs if you can send em over?

  • good tone...just a few problems in how its how it's played

  • I certainly made some adjustments to my arrangement; particularly at 1:43 where I chose a voicing that allows me to attack the notes harder, while adding some alternating bass notes that Kaki doesn't play. Consequently, the positioning isn't 100% accurate compared to what I'm hearing in the original recording, but it's musically accurate, a heck of a lot more fun to play and, for me, more technically interesting.

What specifically are the "few problems" you feel deserve attention?

  • okay maybe not "problems"...just differences. I wasn't aware it was a creative rendition.

  • Ok then.."differences" as compared to what? What are they? I'm not offended at all, I'm just trying to understand your comment.

My comment was simply to explain the only section where I knowingly added a minor embellishment to the artist's arrangement. However, I just re-listened to Kaki's recording again and noticed that she does in fact play an abbreviated version of what I did at 1:03 (whoops..not 1:43), although it's buried slightly deeper in the mix.

  • okay...

    1) At 0:32, the high part with your right hand is off. I'm just comparing to the actual recording.

    2) At 1:06, the ending lick is off.

    3) At 1:24, you do the ending lick on one of the strings twice.

...again these are all small errors but I've been playing this song nonstop these days.

  • i knew when i played by you on bass during church that you could play very well but i did not imagine anything like this or your other videos. you have exceeded all expectations. i am here by honored to play beside you whenever i can.

  • Thanks man! You've got tremendous talent. Dig in daily and you'll be amazed at what you can achieve.

  • i would by this from itunes if it was played by you

  • Dude, that was awesome, It inspires me to try to learn how.. Doesnt mean Ill get it though, Wish me luck!!

  • Thanks....and good luck!

  • hey man wicked cover , could ya fill me in with the tunning?

  • Tuning is on the video info to the right. Thanks for the compliment!

  • wooow this is a darn good cover dude.

  • pls do a tutorial on this one!

  • I think you have to do something called "open tuning" to make it so one string hits a whole chord when struck... but I've only heard someone talking about playing like this, so I don't know personally.

    Sounds great though!

  • Loved the film... didn't see enough of this song in it so thanks!! You did fab!

  • thats was an amazing cover! You kinda look like you have to pee at the end. hahahaha lol.

  • Thanks for checking it out. That's all :)

  • So dude, the cover is awesome. I have figured out the tuning....and I can slap it....but I am having trouble with the slapping from both hands.....how hard, on the fret, off the fret....how high above the string ?

  • Slap the lower strings with the underside of your fingers, paying special attention to the syncopation of the rhythm and alternate hand slaps. Drumming this out on a tabletop or your lap is a great way to practice this riff. I throw in a tapped harmonic at the 17th fret (strings 2-4) for that chimmey sound that Kaki achieves.

  • I saw the movie August Rush about a month ago and totally fell in love with it. I don't play guitar but it was a very very very good movie. I love listening to that style of guitar playing.

  • Sounds great - I wrote out a version of Ritual Dance in my style (also in the movie) and have a vid of it in my profile if you want to check it out.

  • hi where can i get tabs for this song?thanks!

  • I'm not sure what's out there. I transcribed this by ear. Thanks for watching.

  • do you do the echo yourself? I thought it was added when khaki king did it, but maybe not?

  • I added the delay myself.

  • Thanks a lot for posting this cingram72, I liked it a lot better than the other versions on here so I learned from this one:)
