Good God! Not heard this since 1985 - I, too used to laugh at the lyrics, I was aged 12 that year. Love the abrupt trumpet to disguise the swear words!
I was 11 years old when this was out in 1969 and when a guy played this song and Max Romeo Wet Dream at school in the lunch hour in the Music room. I just had to have them so ask friend to get me the 2 45 from HMV in Manchester and i could only play the 2 45 when my mum and dad was out of the house. in them days we had Blue spot (Blaupunkt) the sound was fab for reggae records
reminds me of when I was a kid.... used to wait for my mum to go out and then sit and giggle at the rude words!! Thing is.... 30 years on and I still giggle at the rudeness of it!!
What? " only 25 people know of this track" are you mad? its well famous, its what inspired judge dread to carry on with big 6 etc, top rude reggae from the king of ska. the Man
@TheMeltdown23 Yeah, I knew it first because Bad Manners covered it. Seriously, it seems most of the Specials hits were covers of Prince Buster- never knew it when I was younger.
@hotpants69 for sure Gangsters was inspired by Al capone, and all the two tone bands for sure gave prince buster songs a good going over as well as covers of other great artists, dandy livingstone for example with Rudi a message to you :-))
This is a great song. I went rummaging through my parents loft a while back and found this on 7". Amazing. Of course, I don't even wanna know on what occasions my parents played this.....
Prince Buster is the original rudie
