I love Tai Chi especially Chen Style but hate running. Although I have always wanted to be able to run for the Cardio benefits and as a great way to explore basic meditative states. I have just purchased a copy of Danny's book which is what lead me to this video. I genuinely feel that this form of running will provide me with a greater understanding of Chi energy and will provide the work out to compliment my Taiji, open meridians and increase my cardio fitness. Just need to start implementing.
This is great, but I always wonder why an organization disables the capability for someone to run it on their FB page. That can only lead to further exposure and more hits which is a GOOD thing, right?
@toby099 you must not be rageful, it will only interfere with your running technique that requires the harnessing of the energies of gaia and universal symbiosis
Proper form is a natural process than comes with practice and simple attention to what works best for you and your own particular physiology. With or without a book, leaning into the direction in which you intend to run is part of this natural process. Save your money on the volumes of useless drivel and just get out and run.
I read a book about running injury free by Gordon Pirie and one of his major recommendations is not to lean forward, which is in contradiction with what is said in this video. I guess that in any case, more than the specific technique you gain from these books, what it is really important is that they teach you to pay attention to your body while you run. If you do so, eventually you run more efficiently and with less injuries. The particular style depends a lot on you particular body setup.
What you read about leaning may have been about leaning from the waist. Dreyer advocates the initiating the lean from the ankles while keeping a straight line posture from the ankles to the crown of the head. I have also heard this echoed from quite a few running coaches.
First of all, I don't know who runs standing straight up. Second, no matter how your technique you have to push up, even if it's at an angle. I'd like to see someone do this down a hill.
Of course running hurts. And unless you stay consistent with it for a couple months it won't stop hurting. And, if you want to get any better beyond that point it's going to hurt more. The reason it's good for you is the same reason it hurts!!!! Life takes EFFORT!!
i dont understand like i thought chi running is so you dont feel any pain while running, i seriously need help because i know i am a very sensitive person and that running just makes a lot a pain and it just sucks.
Pain is a pointer to where your tension or inflexibility is. It takes a bit of sensitivity to loosen up those areas in you body. You shouldn't expect to run without pain right away but you can evolve towards that. To run without tension in your body (mind), is key to running without pain.
Get his book. I don't know much about Chi but I do know physics, and in that regard the principles he advocates are sound. Whether you believe that there is some reality to the Chi business or not, the techniques he develops allow you to focus on your form and improve your running. It does require a bit of a commitment: it took me something like two months and a lot of brainpower to become comfortable with the new running form. However, it did eliminate my knee pain and boosted my performance.
Why even bother watching this video if you're going to be closeminded? And the whole Johnson comment, I don't think he's refering to sprinting or even becoming the fastest long distance runner. The main draw to this technique is preventing injuries which is huge for people who are dedicated runners.

allignment, needle and cotton, relax, central axis, chi, don't stay upright, let yourself fall forward and let gravity do the work??!! no wonder the guy loos so puny and unhealthy!!if you want to relax and be effortless then stay at hope and get a bath. If you want effective running the run like a champ, see below michael johnson 200m world record, he's bolt upright, theory blown!!
I watched Johnson run... He's almost leaning backwards (he's amazing. No doubt). I have mixed feelings. I'm not so interested in winning anything, I just want to try to run on my busted knees like I did when they still worked right...
your rebellious argument loses punch when it's riddled with spelling errors... i read the book and i chi run -- the technique is all about running injury-free and increasing your personal best distance and (eventually) speed... i'm not trying to win world records, just have fun while maintaining a healthy musculoskeletal system...
Its just fact. If you want to increase your speed, giving someone your money for their book and running like a plank isn't the way forward, but carry on.
For those that are serious, practice the techniques of atheletes not gimmick salesmen.
Check out the style used by most Ultra marathoners for 50 and 100 MILE races and you will understand the benefit of this running style. Think about incorporating both Chi and spell check into your life. It will make you a better communicator.
so? it's all the same, just different words: chi, yoga, force. the ideas just come from different sources: china, india, star wars. I do yoga, and I run. And what I learned watching Danny's Chi Running video was awesome. He's not a sell out. I suspect you're just an angry person. Do more Qi, yoga, jedi training, whatever... it might help.
Great !!!

I know what you mean. I do martial arts and I told my instructor that I know that running is supposed to be good for endurance, but it HURTS!
Running hurts. For me at least.

Excellent. It makes complete sense, especially the "needle in the cotton" and "partnering with gravity". Thanks for posting. Please post more.
