  • if that was in km/h than its damn slow

  • Why are you short shifting?

  • hey i'm from nz too was wondering what type of supercharger were you using in this and where did you get it from?

  • @Nuzzie it was a jackson racing kit i got from the states

  • :O

  • what year is miata, supercharger brand and cost. and i was thinking im going to get a 1996 miata cus of how bad the 97-2005 handle compared to the NA and NC input appreciated

  • This sounds awesome :)

  • w00t rhd.

  • whered u buy your supercharger ive ben looking all over but the only place i found that has them is ebay and i dont trust that shit

  • @Hater415650 Check out the Jackson Racing kits through miatamaniadotnet, or the Fast Forward kits at fastforwardsuperchargersdotcom. Lots of people use the JR M45 kit. There are others as well. You obviously haven't been "looking all over" too thoroughly. ;)

  • Watched it several times, and it looks like 7-ish seconds to 100, maybe less? It's not very easy to estimate it from the vid. If you had something like the G-TECH PRO performance meter you'd get some accurate times. I'm sure you can get them in NZ

Tha MX5 is a top car anyhoo.

Have you considered Saturn 5 boosters for your next upgrade?

  • @wordreet i did borrow a gtech pro a while back and it was around the 6.5 sec mark, i have since sold the car because i had to get something more sensible, i now have a subaru wrx, and an Aprilia tuono motorcycle- planning on doing a acceleration video of the bike very shortly :)

  • @jjspangle Cool ! It'd be interesting to know the acceleration and cornering difference between the WRX and the Tuono. The later G-TECH can do that.

  • @wordreet I can tell you straight away that i would go round corners faster in the wrx- basically because i am not that good at riding a motorcycle ! the nice riding roads here in NZ can be fairly dodgy as far as gravel/road works go, so i never ride around a corner any faster than i can see to stop ! In the car you can take more risks (that's what i think anyway- others will disagree i am sure) cheers jj

  • @jjspangle

Yeap, I think it was Top Gear who proved it on their track. A WRX against a sports bike. ;-)

  • @wordreet check out one of my new videos, aprilia tuono onboard, it accelerates just a fraction faster than the mx5 :)

  • wow I like those gauges..... I might have to pick up a set for mine...

  • sure jjslapper, i just pointed out what do you do to get 100% from the motor, in this video you just were not going for maximum performance...btw intoxicating sound:P

  • jjslapper the point is when you shift up from 2nd to 3rd i.e, rpm drops from 6000 to about 4500...so when the 3rd begins revving up from 4500 you miss those precious 500rpm before reaching full torque at 5000rpm;) so to maximize performance you need at least 6500+rpm even if the maximum power appears before that;)

  • Hi- Just looking at the dyno readout, i have 210nm@3500rpm,220@4000,225@4500,235@5000

and dropping agin to 226@5500, so ok i may have gained abit- but hardly worth revving the shit out of the motor for a silly video now is it ! and i still have more torque at 3000 revs thana standard mx5/miata does at max torque ! cu

  • sorry but- with the supercharger on this car (dyno verified) max power was at just over 6000revs and max torque at 5000 revs, so no point in reving to 7000.

  • dyno verifying does little when making argument not to rev to7k rpms, there's no resistance to the wheel on the dyno and it doesn't show the power being put to the ground, it also doesnt show CLUTCH slip during real acceleration conditions. True test of speed is in 1/4mile runs. Do a 1/4mile run with your current shifting, and then do another with a 7krpm shift, ill bet you that you'll run quicker on the 1/4mile using 7krpm shift. Oh one more thing, I'm s/c'ed mx5 also, cheers!

  • You even contradicted yourself, you say that max tq is at 5k rev, which is even MORE reason to shift at 7k revs because it drops you to 5k.

  • ur supposed 2 be shifting when u reach the 7 on the rpm

  • ive got a 95 miata and i am looking to put some upgrades on it while spending under 4k would u recommend a turbo or a supercharger? if anyone could send me a link to a good site please lol

  • the difference between a turbo and a supercharger is that a turbo is wound by the exhaust, it creates like a fan type spool to suck air thhorugh the engine faster, a supercharger is belt driven and instead of using the pressure from the exhaust its turned by ur engine, both do the same things, just different ways, supercharger is a more direct power, but easier to blow something up, a turbos a bit more sluggish but better for an average guy who wants a bitta kick

  • @jude1688quote" it creates like a fan type spool to suck air thhorugh the engine faster,"

mate find out how a turbo works properly before telling other people eh !

  • @jude1688 dude, superchargers are SAFER for newbs to the car world then turbo's. A supercharger is run off the engine, so after a quick tune, you never have to worry about something going wrong. You get at turbo, you could have that one day were your pressure jumps to 30psi and your shit goes all wrong. Dumb asses on youtube, just what, the, fuck.

  • You left most of it in the bag! The sweetest part of that car is the power from 6000-7500rpm. Why didn't you use it?

  • With the supercharger i had fitted it gives you much more torque lower in the rev range and its not really advantageous to rev to the red line.

  • it all depends on tuning, and timing, has nothing to do with being supercharged. I have supercharger on the car and i make MORE tq in the higher rev range then lower. its all in the tune bro!

  • Superchargers sound so nice.

  • I like it :D

    0-60mph came in about 6 :)

  • Why was your RPM so low at 100 mph.

  • because my friend, we in new zealand have adopted kilometers per hour, i get to approx 130 in this run- which is just over 80 mph.

  • Quick, interesting gauge setup, how did you rotate the stock tach?!

  • this is a mk2 mx5 1998 and thats how the gauges were as standard (right hand drive japanese market car)

  • Right I've got a 2000 as well however my tach redlines at 7000 instead of 7500 and the tach is rotated about 45 degrees clockwise of that. Interesting that the JDM cars are slightly different..

  • Nice!
