  • this was probably the worst tutorial I've seen, you were right, this were the worst 4 min of my life, I've learnt nothing. TOtal pointless and waste of time.

  • great video, now im spired to make a storyboard :D

  • a great program to use is artrage

  • You Guys are the SHIT! ( in a agood way) :)

  • nice

  • THanks!

  • Good job! I don't have a big board like yours, so I found that a desktop calendar is pretty handy for keeping multiple projects on the go.

    Thank you!

  • very weak tutorial...

  • I assume this applies to animation as well, we'll see how I do. Thanks for the video :D .

  • Excellent, thank you.

  • Dont' feel limited to teach us more, not just 4 min.

  • My video teacher has us use the storyboard template.

  • you guys!!! I NEED a bullet time effect! like the one in the matrix, BUT I dont have the money for a big expensive program, because Im only 11. thanks! :)

  • Comment removed

  • than you bro

  • thanx a ton! this was very helpful.

  • im storyboarding for my latest production, we are going to make a vietnam war film, ive been planning it out, and loosing sleep about thinking about it, so it should be good, great video 5/5

  • @95bradders95 How's the Vietnam War movie coming along? Got a link with more info about it?

  • I study animation and the best way to storyboard is to draw using photoshop, etc w/graphic tablet though hand drawn has the best effect but its also time consuming e.g scanning everything etc

  • @amari17 You don't know of any good DVDs that have an extra where it will show you the storyboard as the movie goes along do you? I would like to watch a movie with the storyboard just to see how it works. I wonder if the Coen Bros. ever did something like this. I know that they have the same person storyboard all their films. Also, why do you say that Photoshop is the best way to storyboard?

  • I have been doing storyboarding for VX Super Force, my story.

  • well thank-you but it was actually 4:44

  • but he doesn't start the clock immediately

  • and also the clock stops for the advert

  • lol r u retarded??

    the video just lasts 4:43??

  • This was great, and the link in the description was

extremely helpful, thanks so much! <3

  • thank you brothers!!!

  • We watched this in media too!

  • ugly hipster!

  • This was extremely helpful thankyou.

  • lol We watched this at school. :)

  • Thanks so much! That was very kind..!

    :)

  • thanks, i favorited this for the future

  • great! that you! :)

  • This was useful. But you can learn all of this by watching the bonus features on any Pixar DVD. That's what I do.

  • oh yeah, and look how far you've come. taking your advice could take me anywhere, couldnt it.... but i dream.

  • yeah but this was free... no need to shell out$20 for "Finding Nemo" lol

  • you can also use the Peter Jackson technique and make a video with minuratures if its a larger scale production or even just to get a rough idea for angles

  • awesome. thanks.

  • It's been a while since I've checked Indy Mogul, but I can recall 4 Minute Film School being their best show, in my opinion - in terms of BEING USEFUL to EVERYONE. Sure, it might be more FUN and FUNNY to watch people make silly jokes, but this show was... really good to LEARN people things that they can ALWAYS use.

    Yeah, caps for emphasis.

  • i miss the show :(

  • yeah i know, i miss steve =( he was second best host on indy mogul next to eric and bobby being 3rd

  • just a tip about getting a dry erase board(for anybody who can't get a hold of one), if you has the little extra cash to spend a good sized white board will only run you about $20 and are easy to month :)

  • so which one u do first screenwritin or da storyboard? or both at da same time?

  • typically you want to do at least a first draft of you script first, an easy story board type way to help with that is just put you scenes on cards so you can move them around if you don't like the order, but the actual story board is more for shooting purposes after the script has been writen

  • I think the idea of making a "sound film" first is brilliant .

It could save loads of time, money and "strops" on location.

(Strops, old persons english for loosing ones temper.)

  • special thanks to you, i like the idea of using post-it notes, since i only have few, they're precious so i'll tend to be more careful -

  • is a storyboard literally every frame, every angle, every shot of the movie? Or just a general idea of each scene

  • most of the time it is another shot, never a frame (unless its a picture) but its mostly angle and shot(more shot)

  • depends on the film...someone like hitchcock and spielberg storyboarded pretty much every shot...other filmmakers only storyboard more complex scenes while using shot list for less complex ones

  • THANK YOUUUU SOOOOOO MUCH FOR THE STORYBOARD TEMPLATE.

    THANK U THAKN U THANK U THANK U

My ass has officially been saved. =]

  • i love these really basic ones

  • Well done. Thanks for the tip.

  • You Rock Steve =)

  • Another way you can do it if you're not good at drawing and want a very good pictures for the shots: use machinima! That's right. If you have a copy of "The Sims 2", you can recreate real-life settings, create Sim representations of your characters and then use the in-game screen capture ability to create the shots and then edit them in a photo editor to match what it is your going for. The more games you use, the more shots you can create. I suggested this at the form and got mixed reviews.

  • thats a really good idea actually so thanks

  • No problem. I came up with it when it came to doing a storyboard for a short story I wrote for Fiction Technique a while ago. Though I used Photoshop Elements to create the storyboard pages, programs like PlanetWide Media's Comic Book Creator gives you templates to work with too.

  • @codebreaker2001

You could also use minecraft. Or even Roblox studio.

  • @BravoOscar100 Well, at the time this post was made, Minecraft and Roblox Studio didn't exist, but games like "The Sims 2" and "The Movies" did. Nowadays, there's more games that allow the ability to make machinima.

  • Google storyboard.

  • hey do you think you could give a tutorial on how to write a shot list. that'd be awesome.

  • Thanks for the link to the free storyboarding template. You guys are great!

  • bring back weekend extra

  • a tip to do a storyboard, you can order your scenes equal, for example, first go place, second go people in that scene and last, the dialoges between the people in the scene. This help much to understand the scene

  • nice. im gonna start making the storyboard for my next movie right now!

  • I LOVE STEVE NELSON!

  • me too

  • I LOVE STEVE NELSON TOO!

  • good stuff, keep it coming

  • woo!! three cheers for animatics!!!

  • dude not bad you did a ok job.....

  • i didn't really watch weekend extra that much before but this is really good, well done indy.

  • that sucked.... now lets play who's in my mouth!!!!

  • what? no fuck hollywood? why?

  • very good but a little late for me i found out to do this a while ago!!

AND ALL U PEOPLE WHO GET FIRST COMMENT DO U JUST SIT AT THE COMPUTER ALL DAY WAITING FOR A VID!!! LAMO'S GET A LIFE!!

  • search for my dick!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 04:44 minute film school :P

  • This was good, but Steve left a few things out:

    1. Start with a SCRIPT. When it's in decent shape, number each slug. That's going to be the basis for your storyboard.

    2. Use a digital camera (still or video) at the actual locations to create a more accurate storyboard.

    3. Use *that* storyboard to create a shot diagram, basically where you'll need to place your camera.

    4. Don't worry if you can't draw worth a damn. Stick figures are fine, as long as you draw arrows to show movement.

  • Good point and you can go so far as to even make ornate drawings and or photos of characters with said drawing. It can be hokey or you can even go so far as to photoshop the scenes, creating a realistic shot. I have only done this once but it is nifty.

  • 1337

  • LOL at all the people who think they had first comment.

  • I love the idea of an audio storyboard! I would never have thought of doing that. Thank you! :)
