great review, and i have to give you credit for sticking with it for a week. I think it'd just frusterate me too much. I can see it will get us by in an emergency, but really i can't see it as an edc radio replacement. I'm from southern california, so it's hard for me to understand how you don't have any sun :) i leave my eton on my dashboard of my car, and it's fully charged all the time. I'm still looking for a good smartphone charger that i can leave in my car. Thank you for the great review
I also have a version of this radio and i have always in my mine thought if this crank breaks I will just J>B weld or supper glue one of my extra sockets to it. that way i can just put the wrench in and crank it that way....thanks for the video
Have you heard that you can only crank the device x number of times before it no longer is able to charge via cranking ? We have this cheapo flashlight from our car dealership and it says on it that you can only crank it about 5000 times before it stops working. Would be nice to know if the Eton radio has such a limitation.
I have the same one(mines blue) and it charges everything except my ipod I think aples usb's are odd, however it only has the tention when you are actualy charging something, if you can't charge anything off it it might be defective.
Great review! Hubby asked if you were cranking the radio while trying to charge the cell thru usb, or if you cranked it first then tried to charge it? Also, loved the commercial at the end for the Maybeline. Are you the voice for the commercials on the radio?
Ive had this same radio for just over a year now and love it. Use it regularly I dont abuse it but dont baby it either no probs with the crank.. I did recharge my I phone with this radio ONCE it will recharge but takes LOTS of cranking . Seems to me about 1.5 revs per second is A good speed to crank. Ive had several of these crank\emergency radios and this one fits my needs the best.
I think with usb chargers, you need to get >500mv or the device wont charge. I'm wondering if the crank speed is related to the voltage output? Maybe you are cranking too slow and never getting above 500mv output? Just a thought.
thinking about geting this radio but how good is the solar 4 charging/holding a charge? ty karen......ps u did alot work 2 make this vid thx

Maybe the usb will only charge via the solar?

wow, well done @ the end, so fast and clear.
Nice radio... but there are some similar radios with solar, crank, A/C and Battery power.

My experience with crank cell phone chargers is you have to have the speed JUST RIGHT.
The tension is probably different because it doesn't sense the "load" like before (the internal battery)
