@altjff15 why do ignorant religious zealots feel compelled to watch and listen to music they don't approve of, then bash it? If you don't like it stay away.
I happen to love the oddness of this song and I am a Christian. I don't interpret it to be anything other than a whimsical, expressive, beautiful form of art I like to call, Tori Amos.
I loved this artist until I saw this title. I don't care what she "explains" this to be. I don't care what fundies say about it, they call everything evil. I can judge for myself. And I'm now turned off.
To me ~ father lucifer is very much about accepting the fact that we all have a Doppelgänger ~ it really is our shadow side ~~ find her ~ meet her ~ walk with her, accept her ~ tori did ~
"Now, when I say Lucifer, I’m talking about the feelings that we hide from ourselves." "And I am not talking about Satanism......that’s the distortion of those who can’t really claim the dark so they become evil because they are not really claiming their shadow." .yessaid.com/talk/3fatherlucifer.html Lucifer here is the Jungian shadow.
I could be wrong but, it seems like "Father Lucifer" is her ex and "that Milkmaid" is herself. When she says "he threw away our apple seed", she's talking about her miscarriage. So, it isn't actually about Satan. It's symbolism, like with most poetry and music, one thing represents something else. Nothing Satanic about that.
@youkilledthefrog ---I always thought the same in my interpretation of the song. Considering the things going on in her life at the time, it makes sense
@youkilledthefrog I always thought the same thing. I definitely thought Father Lucifer represented an ex and she represented the milkmaid. I never thought of the whole miscarriage thing in the appleseed metaphor, very intriguing. It makes perfect sense.
It is my understanding that Tori Amos made a pact with the Devil, and that is how she became famous. Does anybody know if this is true? I know that she has publicly acknowledged using voodoo dolls. So I think it’s reasonably safe to assume that she did make a pact with the Devil. And to my knowledge, pacts with the Devil are non-voidable. So if she made a pact with the Devil, the contract is still in effect, no?
@dmh497 Literally none of that is true lol She wrote this song after a drug trip, no Devil involved. She has never mentioned anything to do with voodoo dolls.
@KidRiviera I’ve heard her talk about using Voodoo dolls. So that part is definitely true.
And people who are not Satanists don’t usually write songs called Father Lucifer. So I’m not convinced that there is no pact between Tori and the Devil.
OMG OMG OMG OMG I LOVE TORI AMOS BECUZ OMG... BECUZ OMG...CUZ I HAVE NOTHING ELSE BETTER TO SAY BUT OMG....yeah, that's how all you freaks out there sound like, like a depraved monkey caged up looking thru a hoarde of bananas on the other side!!!! no, but i really enjoy this song >=*D
One of the most beautiful, spiritual and full of meaning songs of hers! There couldn't have been any other way, since she wrote this when she was high! :)) Amazing job, wonderful album, smart and poetic lyrics and brilliant album theme!
[44] Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.
I just remembered that the world is supposed to end today... Some nutty preacher who used to be a civil engineer has a lot of people believing him in Memphis. There's even a billboard up. So, 'happy end of ze world'.
I'd never listened to this artist until last year when I heard this song by mere chance. I got the goosebumps. Now I wanna know more of her material as this is wonderful.
@HopePrincess7 don't feel stupid, Just because you don't fully understand the lyrics. Any song can be interpreted many different ways from many different views. Even if the song was meant to mean one thing, everyone has their own opinions of it :D
@sickofwaitingtables lol I thought for real before I looked at the picture. She does look like her on that pic a lot. But this song is completely wonderful.
