Thank you SO much for putting this up. My copy of Contact is getting old and this scene glitches and fails. I've seen the movie so many times, but I still wanted to see this before skipping over the messed up part of the DVD. Fantastic, one of the two best uses of the phrase "Clever girl" in a movie, ever ;)
@jarhead565 I think you intended to ask: Does anyone know what the soundtrack is at 6.30 PLEASE. I'd be very grateful if anyone has the info, THANK YOU. Didn't you?
@TheCoolProfessor Yeah, like we might be called,"Intelligent life".Here in this vast universe,we spend our time making war on each other, killing each other, since we began.I don't think an advanced civilization would want to know us do you ?They come by often enough, and keep right on going.WE are the "Aliens" in the peaceful universe.
@MrConundrum2020 -I really wish everybody would stop using the same word, "AWESOME",by constant use it loses it's awe.And makes the speaker appear to need a few more words that mean the same thing.Sounds dumb and juvenile.
@adult09 what about all of the geniuses coming up with E = MC 2, yet only one einstein came up with it himself, as one genius (einstein wasn't the only genius then is the point).
I rather liked Contact for reasons that I dont know why ... is it least said that there is so much information that envolopes us all. Yet answers are hidden everywhere ...beyond our own senses.
Mighty Dialogue - One of the 'coolest' scene in any movie!
I've had a long time to make enemies, Doctor. And many governments, business interests, even religious leaders that would like to see me depart this Earth. I'll grant them their wish soon enough. But before I do, I wish to make a small contribution. A final gesture of good will to the people of this little planet who have given—from whom I have taken—so much.
@dreamzzinc11 Sorry to be pedantic: But if you're quoting it may as well be accurate :-)
I've had a long time to make enemies, Doctor. THERE are many governments, business interests, even religious leaders that would like to see me depart this Earth. I'll grant them their wish soon enough.
@Onatheme Hi. Thanks, but, I am not quite sure if you are right either. Would you like to put the source in? I have listened to it numerous times, and now I doubt which one is right. I really donot hear 'THERE' in Hadden's line.
Will appreciate pointers. If I am wrong, then my apology is on standby.
To me this scene always fascinated me , because Hadden knew her since birth , My friend had a theory that he was an uncle of hers because he had pictures and films of her as a little girl , an uncle who promised not to approach her at any time , but when he smiles and says you came to me , tells that he is a relative maybe
He says 'you came to my attention'. I don't think he's a long lost relative, but simply a brilliant manipulator and engineer. He's used his considerable influence and abilities to make things happen. Unlikey to come across anyone who will tell him what he doesn't want to hear--so he's easily able to find old cine camera clips, family history and anything else he wants to know about Ellie.
Now, if the question was 'is he her benefactor'...yes, possibly so. :-)
What is appealing about this scene is that Haddon represents a level of power and wealth that has transcended every worldly concern. He looks omnipotent by being bemused by the worlds greatest problem. And while you can sense evil, he seems to have moved even beyond such pettiness and while still being a dangerous man, always generously helps Ellie as if he enjoys how she vicariously unsettles the mighty. To him she is his protege and he her patron in a quiet father/daughter might-have been.
@wownouser You can. Download bitcomet. google BTJunkie.org or Demonoid.ME. You have to register...but it is free. go to the torrent search area type in the movie you want. Self explanatory from there.
@dforero5 I know, and I'm sorry for the mix up. I have no idea where I read it that she was the director! One of those brain mush moments! I'll correct it. :-)
"...I wish to make a small contribution; a final gesture of goodwill toward the people of this little planet who have given - from whom I have taken - so much." Love that line.

@Onatheme You're welcome. This is a special film for. It influenced me to studying space - that's what I do :)
lol. infact, initially I wrote 'SO' and then changed into 'AND'. Ambiguity.
There is another scene when Ellie runs to grab medicine for her dying father :) which is an illusion or rather a sophisticated technique.

Actually, the movie was directed by Robert Zemeckis.
John Hurt is perfect as S. R. Hadden, and Jodie Foster does indeed play Ellie Arroway like no one else could have.
This too is my favorite sequence. "A final gesture of goodwill to the people of this little planet that have given... from whom I have taken so much!"
Thanks for posting it.
