I understand you, and in fact you are correct. It is though important to point out that social class is extremely marked, and therefore being on foot is not important for middle class on up, so this makes it very dangerous for foreigners that are not used to and as avid as poor folk.
Sure you seak from experience and so do I. I was there for 2 months and loved it. I drove my motorcycle all over the place and had a blast with the crazy traffic.
