The person who gets out front does not always win. In fact, more often than not, the person leading coming out of turn 4 gets passed before they reach the finish line because of drafting.
I raced Flattrack for 5 years. It definitely is the most extreme sport. It's also the most awesome thing you'll ever do. I'd give anything to do it again.
@sanfranciscobay The rider who gets out front rarely breaks away from the pack, and there are usually passes for the lead on every lap. The draft is very important on the mile tracks. They are hitting top speeds of around 140mph on the straights, and do 110-115 through the turns. Harley-Davidson is still the dominant manufacturer, but others are competitive. Bryan Smith won two mile races last year on a Kawasaki, and Ducati is coming on, also.

This is my favorite type of motorcycle racing. 25 laps of Flat track on the huge 1 mile course.
The one who gets out in front and stays in front with no problems wins. Brutal speeds, uneven track, riders all over the place...
Those are some brave, talented and driven riders.
Are they getting top speeds of 150mph?
Is the Harley the bike most commonly used?
