  • It's amazing how this guy was able to make such a mature interpretation since he was a child. Very nice performance.

Your blog is very interesting too, unfourtunately I cannot read Dutch to enjoy it even more. You're lucky to live between such a rich (high level) musical enviroment as Netherland's one.

Do you make some radio program presenting this historical recordings?

    Greetings.

  • You waving the LP cover around in front of the camera is hilarious for some reason...

  • I have loved Daniel Barenboim's way on the piano, all my life. So sad about the way his marriage finished with the death of Jaqueline Du Pres, ...but what a match that was! Daphne

  • Pergolesi wrote piano music who knew? The recording amazes me that teachers in that era chose this material . J.C.Bach usually sounds like Mozart but not here. This is fastidious playing. The slow movement shows a mature and very learned artist.

  • Thanks for sharing- doubters, critics- why can't people just enjoy?

  • This sound it seems to me too modern for '54. It seems a more recent incision. Forgive me, but I think this is not Barenboim in '54.

  • @TheEngraver Are you congratulating me with my transfer skills? :)

Nope, it's really 1954! Go to my channel home, and you will see some links to a blog I made for the Dutch PBS Radio 4. There are some contemporary LP's from the early 50's that even sound better... (Abbey Simon in the Grieg Pianoconcerto for instance..) Greetings from the Netherlands, Rolf

  • @TheEngraver Too modern for '54 or for Bach?! Mr.Barenboim was always ahead of his time...he still surprises even at this 'second' tender age...

  • @gitaclick no no, the sound quality seems to me too modern for '54. :-)

  • @TheEngraver ah, that...alright then ;))))

  • how can you be holding the LP in front of me if I'm listening to it right now.. what do you have like multiple copies?

  • @Politikonboard Recorded it first, then shot the video... My (old) setup can be seen in the Erich Rohn video I made.

    Greetings, Rolf

Musica stupenda! Esecuzione sognante! Grazie infinite

  • This recording of Daniel B. at the age of 12th is amazing. Thanks for this video, and for holding the disk too. Very original.

  • me fije y dice j. C. bach no j. S. bach quien es el padre con el cual me estaba confundido. muy buen video

  • I was confused to with how Bach would right such a galant sonata. But after look for it very much, i realized that this is a Yohann Cristian Bach's sonata. Not the father

  • \Yes, its amazing how the musical style exploded into classical in less than one generation. This pieces sounds almost like Hyden or Mozart.

  • bach sonata????????????????????

  • Wait a minute! How can you be playing the record if you're holding it in front of your camera? =O

  • haha that bouncing 45 is hilarious i love this video its so damn stupid 5 stars!!

Everyone get a sense of humor and listen to the music its great!

  • Great music and also an good idea for a video! ;o)

But how could you hold the 45 for this long time?!

In bavaria they have contests like holding beer-mugs.... You should take part of that.. ;o)

  • Forget the picture and just listen! This is embryonic Barenboim. Forget also that he is only 12 - this playing is typical of the mature artist: a complete understanding of the music, handled masterfully even at this tender age.

  • Comment removed

  • I thought your videos' style was very refreshing and unique. I would not prefer just a picture or a record player instead! :)

  • Great montage! Very funny, couldn't stop laughing. And i do love D.Barenboim +++ JS Bach. So, i'm happy tonight.

  • Because of the comments; do you just want a picture or a recordplayer as a video?

You can contact me on Twitter --> @otterhouse

  • Rolf,

thank you sooo much for posting this!

    It is a musical treasure!

    greetings!

  • I mainly listen to music...and I send you a massive thank for this rarest document,

but pls.put down the cover and film it as long as you like then. :)

  • A PICTURE IS NOT BETTER?

  • It it? If other people want to comment about that too...

    Greetings,

    Rolf

  • What's that round black thing?

  • I have opened a second channel called "europeanArchive". There I have gathered highlights from the European archive collection. 500+ Lp's from the Dutch public radio library. Those recordings can be downloaded for free if you live outside the USA (sorry for that, but it was the only way the library could operate). Search "europeanArchive" on youtube, and you can find it!

    Greetings,

    "otterhouse" Rolf

  • I like your style Rolf "otterhouse", it makes me smile!

  • What a find. I really like that sonata. I just saw some JC Bach scores for the first time at IMSLP and I'm very surprised how much Mozart must have been influenced by JC Bach.

  • yes yes yes I believe that's Barenboim when he was 12 because of the puffy eyes.......hahaha

  • exelent

  • He was ALWAYS a genius !!

Such people are born with their talant

However with 65 he play more wisely, because he has learned many things in his life.

  • hhahahah the person of this video is very stupid? hahahaha it's funnyy! hahaha

  • Barenboim is a great musician, as well as pianist. He had recorded all the Beethoven Sonatas at 15. Excellent declicking and processing by otterhouse. Thank you for posting, and maintaining so beautifully your site.

  • wow and thanks so much.

  • Thank you so much for this unbelievable clip. One understands why Furtwangler, after he had heard the young Barenboïm, wrote that that this child was a phenomenon. Can this 45 RPM be found somewhere?

  • A second hand shop....

    Rolf

  • Ebay!

  • BrunoLien:thanks god Furtwängler met Barenboim after the war.Because in other case he could sent him to Auschwitz.Just watch the movie "au revoir les enfants".

  • I watched "au revoir les enfants" a long time ago. It should not be permitted to say that kind of things about Furtwängler. He was absolutely not a militant or an active nazi, and tried to protect several jewish musicians.

  • Such a stupid sentence! He was a genious at 12, and is a genious at 65.

  • *genius

  • Forgive me, I'm french, and I hope a few orthographic mistakes are authorized in such a case...

  • you have not a good ear! (neather a good musical culture)

  • Let's make this man PM of Israel and resolve the Middle East problems. Art lifts the spirits and can help as bridge divisons.

  • I concur...

And, thanks otterhouse for posting this incredible sound clip.

  • who is JC bach

  • Johann Christian Bach, the youngest son of Johann Sebastian.

  • Daniel Barenboim, orgullo argentino.

  • I enjoy seeing the covers of lp's and reading some of the historical info - very enlightening - great to hear all of the music.

  • you are very kind to share, thanks

  • I think this is remarkable -- thank you for posting it. What is fascinating is to hear musicianly qualities in the 12-year-old pianist that will develop and grow in the mature artist. This is indeed a "Wunderkind", not a whiz-kid flash in the pan, but a huge talent who approaches music with seriousness and rare understanding even as a child.

  • Wunderkind? Possibly, perhaps. Not from that recording, however. I believe the recording is accurate in every regard and detail, including the several mistakes projecting through the recording.

  • Very very cool. Thanks for posting this!

  • Good performance! It is best to just listen and not watch the ridiculous video.

  • Great find! And good sound too for a 45 rpm.
