  • Any body who is bitching on here about this company is weak. I have been with SW as a sales rep for almost 15 years. I DO NOT have a college degree or any post HS Graduate schooling but if you work hard and do your job you will be rewarded. Like most 20-30 year olds you guys feel someone owes you something. The bitterness is astounding. Any company you work for nowadays has price increases, inner district challenges and competitive disadvantages.Suck it up and you will be rewarded.

  • As a former employee, I can say I really enjoyed my job and was very successful at it, but the management in the district I was in preferred to manage by constantly threatening your job if you didn't meet goals as oppposed to managing by effective implementing a system of encouragement. I will miss the relationships I had with many of my clients, but I look forward to moving into a different career with better management.

  • Also, stores in my district steal from each others backyards on a regular basis! DM's usually put on a dog and pony show and act like they frown upon it, but in reality all they care about is that the sale is being done in their district and that the company is earning on a national level. It really doesn't matter if you get that big account though; sales reps usually quote the shittest product (400, showcase, solo gloss) below WAC so your margins are fucked regardless.

  • FYI: I've been with the company for four years, and can honestly say that the majority of things I've learned working for the company I discovered through process and error; I can't speak for all managers, because there are a lot of really GOOD managers in my district that have taught me a thing or two here and there, but the manager in my store is too focused on reading the sports paper and dealing with his nagging wife on the phone (who calls four times a day).

  • This company is not hard to advance in without a degree... they don't even fucking drug test you. The managing training program is a joke; these wide eyed kids come straight out of college, hoping to get their hands on some visceral experience in the world of management, and I'm the guy that gets to tell them to manage getting the shit stains out of the toilet bowl. The only work management full time, and due to the recession and the bad housing market your lucky to be working 20 hours a week.

  • I have been with the company for two years and was just promoted to Assistant Manager. Its a great company to work for. Awesome benefits and great job security. I will agree it is hard to advance if you don't have a degree. As long as you do what the higher ups tell you to do you should be good.

  • I worked for S & W 20 years ago... the whole job sucked.. I got fired.... long hours, low pay... I even got my tie stuck in the mixer...

  • I worked for S & W about 20 years,,, by far the worse job I ever had,, got fired,, the pay sucked, hours sucked, the whole freakin store sucked

  • I work for Sherwin Williams and I am so ready to quit... I've been part time for seven years now and they have jerked me around just because i do not have a degree

  • Guys..I'm a mgr in SW..I agree with most of what your saying, especially about the "cut throat" poiicy with in your district..especially when new stores are in play..I never agree with policy of "sacraficing 5 stores budgets to promote one new one. On top of that while we are fighting among ourselves..our compitition gets strong...we will never win the market share in this respect..I learned that lesson with another company.

  • Products are good but they do not justify the price. The company is horrible internally. District managers and store managers are overpaid morons, but Im sure there's one exception somewhere....

  • sherwin williams store,s do steal buisness from other sherwin williams stores in their teritories because their all under pressure by their dm,s to keep pushing sales , their philosophy is stupid and now after raising prices to keep up with ben moores rising costs they just screwed themselves because they are a greedy co, now all the stores have cut their hours after only two years of adding them , we all knew it would not work but theese dum ass district fat ass managers never listened ,

  • what training ?,managers often skip start tests for employees and give them the answers , just like the girl said in the video ,i did,nt know anything about paint , im shure she was real helpful to customers the first year since she says she did,nt know anything about paint ,and that,s typical because they replace the higher paid long term employees with college interns and dont follow the equal pay act, they will hire inexperienced interns and pay them above what long term employees get paid!

  • Man, I just watched this all the way through. The first thing I was told when hired was that we shouldn't act as color consultants and make suggestions regarding what color the customer should use. This video is full of lies... I totally agree with tj. There are at least six stores within five to ten miles of one another in my district. They expect us to battle one another for sales but then reps complain about stores pirating sales from one another.

  • they stack stores one on top of another (in the big markets) and then expect you to do 12% over last year - it's unrealistic. If you don't make a bonus you don't make shit. The district managers do nothing other than drive around to stores and talk shit behind your backs, then when its time for appraisals they tell you that your store was dirty back four months ago, so you get a 4. Screw this place!

  • the evil empire has no ethics or morals...you could work for them and do a hell of a job for 10 years and in an instant your kicked out and replaced by some kid who makes half what you were making.its all about money....do be a fool plan ahead ...get the hell away from the evil empire

  • all the people who really know their shit are sitting in the stores (half of them part time) while middle management tries super hard to make it look like they actually do anything but just end up making your job more difficult than it needs to be.

good ol' S dubb.... worst job ever.

  • Can anyone tell me the name of the 28 year Sherwin Williams rep they are trying to bust dowm to an assistant manager in Pittsburgh to save money? Nice job with the stock today SW down 13%!

  • ok, i have worked for sw for 5+ years now and to say the company sucks is crazy. First if you have to use your own vehicle to do deliverys they pay for your gas 43 cents a mile, and they dont offer any mtp 25,000 your coworker is lieing, i started as a pt then a ft and now im in managment so to say they like about advancement is false. and what company isnt cutting cost at this time. SW is a GREAT company to work for

  • What territory do you work in? Right now our territory has a limitation on the amount of MTP's it can produce. Out of the numerous MTP applicants that signed in thinking they would eventually be trained for a store only two are being placed at a time leaving the rest part time drivers or part time 3rd keys. Times are bad down here, and all the DM's can do is ask us to do PQR's, and forfeit our margins.

  • i think right now we have 2 mtps that cant be placed so they are just floating around right now. but they are still getting paid like an assistant would start out at. im not a MTP so i dont know what they start at but what i have heard thru the years i beleive they start at about 32-35k all depends on volume of the store.

  • I started in Jun as an MTP in the eastern div at $38,000 per year. take in account $10,000 that SW puts into your 401k, health care dential and vacation. Yes PT and FT do the dirty work but they never said you would be sitting in an office. People that have no sales drive or results will never move up in SW. These days your not going to far in SW without a degree from college. My DM wont even look at your resume with a degree.

  • I love how Sherwin Williams is dumping people in the field. Pittsburgh is a great example they have fired so many reps that the painters are coming in droves to other paint stores.Sherwin Williams seems to be in major trouble in Pittsburgh. A decade ago they were to only real game in town now they are becoming an after thought. Jack Breen saved Sherwin Williams 30 years ago, and they have seemed to forget the lessons of a troubled past. Sherwin Williams in Pittsburgh is mismanaged in my view.

  • yeah right! sherwin williams sucks to work for they lie about advancement ,they pay newcomer employees more then the staff on hand ,they recruit from colleges and promise you everything under the sun they are also violators of the fair labor act , they make you use your own cell phone for buisness without any compensation ,they also make you use your own vehicle at times for deliverys ,paul grimes is a liar distict manager in metro jersey office , he should be fired immediately

  • what did they promise you for you to be this bitter?

  • Company does suck I agree. It's a dead end for the uneducated; why you would take a job here after graduating from college is beyond me. They offered my coworker (MTP) 25,000 a year to start off as a manager. That's insulting! A 25,000 year salary translates to poverty level income in California. The company is also cheap! Instead of cutting cost upwards they eliminate cost downwards; this means hiring part time 3rd keys that do full time work without the benefits of a full timer.

  • LoL, they really didn't like 'your friend'.... 25K sounds like a made up number dude... 25K is about 11-12 bucks an hour,,,,,

I really hope you got your math right...

  • It's right, I wish it wasn't. The man turned down another possible internship that would have started him off at $20. If you do the math correctly, and your a part timer (which is the majority of non management in territory 100) $12 an hour translates to about 19k a year. Trust me, I know, it says so on my tax return :) SW also has to be the only company in the history of the universe to increase its prices during a recession; no wonder our numbers are so fucked.

  • The reason why our prices have gone up this past year is becasue the cost of raw materials have gone up. Our largest supplier Dow Chemical has raised cost. Paint cans dont grow on trees, we have to pay some one to make them. Also the cost of fuel to run the trucks from the DSC to the stores has spiked this year. If we didnt raise prices then our margins would shrink. I can think of 50 companies (GM,Ford,City Bank) that have layed off tens of thousands of people at the drop of a hat this year.

  • That is one of their biggest fundamental problems - cutting costs at the store level instead of trimming the abundance of fat in the district offices. I work in a MAJOR market (I think the biggest) and we're allowed to hire at $8.75/hr......meanwhile Home Depot hires at $9.25 and Menards hires at over $10. We can only get these young kids for that amount and then expect them to behave like college graduates working for a big city law firm....it's just unrealistic and puts strain on everyone.

  • Totally agree! For mister kiss ass above who says it's a great company, bullshit! You're obviously very new. You should never have to do deliveries in your own vehicle but all of us had to. Even if they pay you for it - think of the wear and tear when you're driving around with a trunk full of block filler.

  • They do pay new employees more than current employees. My DM should also be fired immediately...the practices within this company is rediculous.
