You know what brought tears to my eyes? Brandon goes to shake Bill's hand and he is like "GET OUT OF HERE!" And gives him the biggest hug. I'm not sure but I think Brandon says How you doin Dad
Season 1 is now available on DVD at the Warner Archives website. The website also includes a podcast interview with Brandon Cruz, in which he talk about his screen test for the role of Eddie Corbett, his long-time friendship with the late Bill Bixby and what he's up to nowadays.
Bill Bixby was just an awesome person and great actor. He just had this unique appeal and charisma and it came through in all of his roles. My favorite was "The Hulk." It came out when I was a small child, but I sort of got back in touch with the show over the last couple of years and I really admire Bixby's portrayal as Dr. David Banner. It's sad that towards the end of the Hulk series is when Bill's live started to crumble with the death of his son and then his ex wife. Just a sad tale.
Bill Bixby's first marriage was with actrice Brenda Benett and she gave birth to their son Christopher Bixby on september 25, 1974. On March, 1 1981 Bill Bixby's six -year-old son Christopher died suddenly of a rare throat infection. April, 7 1982 Brenda Benett committed suicide. Bill Bixby was a great actor and director and I have a deep respect for him.
Great seeing him here. Always loved his acting and his shows. My Favorite Martian was the first thing of his I saw as a very young child and it was my favorite show. Corutship of Eddies Father was wonderful too, which I always enjoyed watching. He seems real genuine, funny too. I always loved that unique voice of his too. Sad loss.
Good One. This is heartwarming. because Bixby passed away, Brandon grew up to be the singer for the punk band DR KNOW, and Brandon Cruz is trying to start a campaign for Bill Bixby to get a star on the hollywood walk of fame. AWESOME!!!
I met Bill Bixby once and he was the nicest guy, very down to earth and polite. I think I was about 10 yrs old and the Incredible Hulk was in the 4th season. He and Lou Ferrigno both signed a picture for me that I have to this day. I loved the Incredible Hulk series. It's a real shame tv is not what it use to be. TV SUCKS NOW!!! I only watch my tv dvd box sets. There's nothing worth watching on tv.
Even though I've seen the movie "courtship of Eddie's father" with Ronny Howard and Glen Ford, I liked the television version more. (The movie was made in 1963.)
ppl think its bad taste to make jokes but i dont always think it is, frankly i am probably guilty myself, but even i feel sick hearing some of the things people are saying about this man, some people like bill bixby will never deserve a joke like that simply because he was a gentleman and down to earth. It makes it hard to stomach hearing somebody say something relating to his illness like that. i couldn't care about M.J but i'd punch any man in the mouth for disrespecting the memory of bixby
I agree that sometimes dark humor is best kept to oneself, but I have to admit that as cool as I thought Bix was, the gamma rays comment was pretty clever, and Im sure that person did not actually mean any disrespect. They actually sounded surprised and disappointed to find Bix had passed away.
@TheLydianRocks Bix was as hard working behind the camera as he was in front of it...a class act, whose TV work spanned 4 decades.. Any other actor that portrays Banner will never stand up to Bix!!
@TheLydianRocks Yeah, his death really shocked me, I read about his life afterwards, and honestly sometimes I don't understand the rules of life, since he seemed to have really hard times throughout his life, like the death of his son, the suicide of her wife, that was terrible, and the fact that he ends up with cancer makes me wonder "what in the world this man could have done to deserve this?", in the contrary I believe he was a wonderful person and he was supposed to have a very happy life
"In 2003, for X2, Hugh Jackman mentioned in an interview talk show This Morning that he planned to make a biopic of Bill Bixby, that he had been drawn to the project by Bryan Singer and that it was a project he loved. A year later, while promoting Van Helsing, he mentioned on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno that he wanted to make the movie soon. Leno showed a picture of Jackman and Bixby and pointed out the similarities in looks. Jackman would later reveal he was drawn to Bixby's story"
Even though he didnt know it while on this show his cancer was there and already effecting his appearance. He had gained weight after the Hulk. In Hulk returns his face was real puffy and he looked very different than he did when the show ended just a few years earlier. But here you can see his jaw muscles and neck were shrinking.
in the late 70's early 80's, a tv station showed re runs of "COURTSHIP..." but i never watched it. when I was 16, i discovered DR. KNOW (The band that Brandon sings for many years), then I was told about Brandon Cruz. Then in the mid 90's, the media started jumping on Brandon for interviews (On a show, Brandon reunited with his long lost sister, also an actress) then when Dr. Know came to town, I went to the show and talked to Brandon and videotaped it. I told him .., and he chortled!!!
@GoddessAnjanee it hit all of us. i did hear he was a caring guy just like his David Banner characer. the surprised guest was great. just wished lou ferrigno , mrs. livingston, etc would of shown up.
Bill Bixby died way too young. I was a HUGE Hulk fan growing up. I was extremely upset about his passing, even today. I never knew him personally but I can tell he was a class man.
rip bill bixby we miss you and he my daughter godfather my daughter was born on sept 21,1993 and he died on nov 21,1993 we both miss him bad we love you
Bill Bixby made up for what my dad lacked and now I try to be that kind of dad. In reality I can not be either but I do my best. Bill gave us some of the best of what TV can be.
If Bill were still alive today it would've been awesome if they could've done another "Courtship Of Eddie's Father,The Later Years" or something like that. The two just fit so well together...RIP Bill Bixby.
I agree with you 100% about Brandon Cruz and Bill Bixby. I couldn't imagine anyone else playing Bill Bixby's son on "Courtship of Eddie's Father", other than Bradon Cruz. It would've been great to see both of them reprise their roles as adults.
Bill Bixby was the father i always wanted to have i used the foundation of my memories of that show and used them a bit to my sons the understanding and compassion and just being there for them what an example this man has set and thank god for dvds
Wow,What a surprise for Bill Bixby..I loved it.. Love it how he sings at the end..Im sure he know the whole song...He was such a nice person with a Great Heart.....Its been now 15 years since he left us...We will always remember you Bill Bixby.Always....
Thanks for posting...It's reminds how much of the good ol days of TV and How much I miss and appreciated Bill Bixby. I got teary eyed when Brandon Crux suprised Bill and embraced each other.
when i heard him say that there are no shows like courtship of eddie's father, i almost had to laugh because this was in 1989 and shows have gotten more and more stupid since then. with the exception of the 90's.
Yeah...that is wierd. Everything has gotten so un-serious since then...like in the late 80's and early 90's when that alternative music came out it was some really weird stuff.
There never will be another Bill Bixby. He was truly was a wonderful actor and a wonderful man, and the two never usually become part of the same man. With Bixby that wasn't true. He really was both.
Thanx for posting this vid, so nice to see 'The Bix' in a non acting role. I love all his shows and he was such a lovely, lovely person. The hulk was my fave, he brought such quality and warmth to the show. I wish he was still around, so sad he left us at such a young age. Never heard a bad word about him, and god was he scrumptious!!!
True Story.... back when Bill was in the third season of the show, one day while on the street a kid recognized him, and asked Bill if he had a son named Eddie... Bixby responded affirmative, and the kid immediately brought his single mother over to "meet" Eddie's "single" father! To try and get them together!
He established a relationship with a women who was already married to Paul Petersen, and I don't want to judge this man, because he seemed to be such a nice man; but he was an "actor-" and most actors / actresses or not what they seem to be-
they are always "acting-"
God Rest his soul.
He died rough. And his ex-wife, unfortuantely, committed suicide and she was very beautiful
I always loved Bill Bixby . . . and I cried buckets when he died. Even to this day, I can get melancholy when thinking about his passing. Bixby and my father also looked alarmingly alike . . . maybe that was one of the reasons I personally cared so much for this man and felt his loss on a deep level.
this guy was just so cool.... I wish he was still alive-- did u guys notice how genuine that laugh was when he saw Brandon... just feels good to see him laugh.... may he be in Peace
bill was also on an episode of the original twilight zine, in the early 60's. cant remember the name of the episode, but it was about a sunken submarine and a crewmember onboard a destroyer kept hearing banging noises like someone was banging on the inside of a ship, bill was i think the 1st officer to the captain of the destroyer which was anchored over the sunken sub. he was relaying all the captains orders and such. must of been one if not his very first role on tv
Bixby was great in every role he did. When very young he once appeared on the "Andy Griffith Show" as a spoiled, rich-kid teenager. "My Favorite Martian" was great, and his role and acting in the mini-series "Rich Man, Poor Man" was of course terrific. RIP, Bill Bixby...you were so, so great.
in 1980 at Universal Studios...it was known that of all the actors there...Bill was the nicest one of them all. Not hiding in his trailor all the time. A rare kind & good Hollywood man!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Is this before or after he died from prostate cancer? actually the cancer spread to other parts of his body so it wasn't prostate that killed him but rather the liver and bone in which cancer ate him like arm ants on a marshmellow.
I think his life took a turn for the worse when his son Christopher died from cardiac arrest and when his wife committed suicide. Just watch the True Hollywood Story on Bixby and you'll see why. (And yes, that really happened, it's not a fanboy-ish post)
I was directing it at gbop63 when they made the insensitive comment about his cancer saying it ate him like arm ants on a marshmellow, obviously they have never had a loved one die from it or had it themselves to say such a nasty graphic post, like I told them they need to investigate their character, they are heartless and rude beyond words.
Sad to see Bill so lively but sadly enough he already had prostate cancer when this aired it would be less than 2 years later that he find out that it had spread beyond his prostate
A hellva great guy that is greatly missed by his fans - hope you get that Emmy in the future that you didn't get while you were alive - you damn sure earned it!
Bill Bixby's been nominated for entry in the Emmy Hall of Fame. There is an online petition that his fans can sign to urge the powers that be to grant him a posthumous Emmy. If you want the link, please PM me - I posted it, but I think it was deleted as possible spam (which it isn't, of course). Or go to Bill's IMDb page and click on "Bill's Legacy" in the message board for the petition link.
Bill Bixby was wonderful. I love the way Brandon thought they were going to shake hands, but Bill walked up and hugged him. It really hurts to see him here, so active and vital, and know that he had less than five years to live. I wish I could jump through the screen and warn him to have frequent medical checkups.
Hi! I've been a Brandon Cruz and Bill Bixby fan since "Courtship of Eddie's Father" premiered in 1969. It was great seeing them reunited in a 1978 episode of "The Incredible Hulk" and also on Arsenio Hall" in 1989. When I watched the latter show, it felt kind of strange seeing Brandon Cruz not wearing the glasses he'd been wearing since he was 8 or 9 years old and still playing Eddie Corbett on "Courtship of Eddie's Father".
Everyone misses him to some degree. Ever since I was 10 years old, I watched the Hulk series. Before that, I watched him in 'My Favorite Martian' with Ray Walston(best known by contemporaries as 'Mr. Hand' in "Fast Times At Ridgemont High.")He brought a gentle, but integral persona to his acting and gave the hulk creature a believable 'good soul.' God Bless Bill Bixby.
Ray Walston was also a co-star on "The Incredible Hulk" with Bill when he himself played a magician in a 1979 episode called "My Favorite Magician" (obviously a take off of the old series title), and this show also featured Anne Scheeden, who was the mother on "ALF", and played Jack Tripper's girlfriend Linda on "Three's Company."
Great clip... Bill Bixby was "The Magician" and was a BIG inspiration (along with the magic coordinator Mark Wilson) to an entire generation (including todays magicians). Bill was truly a kind and caring person, not like the "hollywood" phoneys of today. RIP Bill.
hey this is a great upload ive never seen any interviews of Bill apart from the one with E! near the time of his death, thanks again for uploading this and if u have any more vids please upload ive love to see, thank you.
There is no actor quite like Bill Bixby living or dead. He was one of a kind and he will always be sadly missed. R.I.P Bill Bixby 1934-1993. From Ianking78 from Mark and Bryan's Incredible Hulk message board. Ian.
Funny you should Mention the Show "the Magician" considering thats exactly how Mr. Bixby started his career... as a magician. He was a Great one. Never will be another like him, but thankfully we have tons of his works that he left us to enjoy till the end of time. Loved by Millions, and Enjoyed by all. RIP Bill Bixby.

Bixby and my father also looked alarmingly alike . . . maybe that was one of the reasons I personally cared so much for this man and felt his loss on a deep level.

bill was also on an episode of the original twilight zine, in the early 60's. cant remember the name of the episode, but it was about a sunken submarine and a crewmember onboard a destroyer kept hearing banging noises like someone was banging on the inside of a ship, bill was i think the 1st officer to the captain of the destroyer which was anchored over the sunken sub. he was relaying all the captains orders and such. must of been one if not his very first role on tv

i believe his first TV role was on the Many Lives of Dobie Gillis.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
Is this before or after he died from prostate cancer? actually the cancer spread to other parts of his body so it wasn't prostate that killed him but rather the liver and bone in which cancer ate him like arm ants on a marshmellow.
gbop63 3 years ago
I think his life took a turn for the worse when his son Christopher died from cardiac arrest and when his wife committed suicide. Just watch the True Hollywood Story on Bixby and you'll see why. (And yes, that really happened, it's not a fanboy-ish post)

That is so disrectful and rude, ever had someone close to you die from this disease, why so insensitive? You better investigate your character.

To whom are you directing your message?
californiamagician 3 years ago
I was directing it at gbop63 when they made the insensitive comment about his cancer saying it ate him like arm ants on a marshmellow, obviously they have never had a loved one die from it or had it themselves to say such a nasty graphic post, like I told them they need to investigate their character, they are heartless and rude beyond words.

Bill Bixby reminds us of what all "celebrities" should look up to and emulate.

Bill Bixby, nice man and great actor,
just seemed out of place in
the Arsenio Hall Show.

DENo1MatchGameFan 4 years ago

KJOSCOT 4 years ago 2

RIP Bill.

There is no actor quite like Bill Bixby living or dead. He was one of a kind and he will always be sadly missed. R.I.P Bill Bixby 1934-1993. From Ianking78 from Mark and Bryan's Incredible Hulk message board. Ian.

Very sweet of you to give a great person a tribute that he does deserve!
Bill Bixby used to have a show where he did magic tricks, it was pretty cool.
