i just finished this book and i just can't believe how awesome it is. I grew up in Lynchburg where most people have a complex relationship with Liberty and Thomas Road. They're large industries which are economically important to the town, they're uplifting, they're embarassing, the list goes on. It's complicated. Now I live in Austin (which is mostly left), where people harbor vast misconceptions. Maybe your book will give the right-hating lefties a more nuanced view of their countrymen.
It was an interesting book. I laugh when I think about you saying, "Glory be!" and all that did was make you stick out like a sore thumb. Also funny is, "You've reached the magical world of Zipper's phone!" :)
I enjoyed this book very much it was a blessing to read. As a far right conservative I found myself repenting many times. You have showed me a side of myself I never saw and I haven't even so much as stepped on a Liberty campus.
Kevin: This book was recommended by a friend, and, frankly, I haven't been able to put it down. Not to swell your head, dude, but you're very mature. What I mean is you're able to be very balanced in your perspective, refraining from taking the "easy way out" by depicting life at Liberty (or life at Brown) as all bad or good; all tolerant or intolerant. I hope folks learn from this. Human beings (like the ones you met at LU) are multifaceted. As a follower of Christ, I was very impressed. Thnx.
@evethezealot YES!!! I completely agree! I think Kevin did this great favor to the bride of Christ by showing us what we look like! His assessment was extremely fair and balanced!!!! So true! May this kindness be returned to you, Kevin, in this life and in the next!
Really enjoyed this book. Like taking in breezy fragrances that mix in the mind. One stream is philosophical inquiry, another is natural curiosity about one's surroundings; there's also the intrigue of secrecy, the tension of attraction and the normal zaniness of college years. All so pleasantly presented. This video doesn't do it justice. Why not solicit some ideas for a better presentation?
I graduated from Liberty in '86 and I must say you did a great job depicting the life at Liberty. I thoroughly enjoyed reading your book. I pray as you continue your journey in life that you find continued success.
I just finished reading Kevin's book, and I highly recommend it. Like Kevin, I had only thought of evangelicals in stereotyped ways...his book introduces you to real people, and you can understand them a lot better when you get to know them a little. Read this book!
you seem really interesting, i wish more people would step aside and realize that not every Christian is going to condem you the first time you meet, and that we are normal people, that like normal things! can't wait to read your book!
This sort of confirms what former Leftist Tammy Bruce has said... libreals are brainwashed into believing all sorts of lies about people on the right . but if a non-brain-dead leftist spends enough time around others, then they will begin to understand all the lies that he has been told.
I grew up in the Bible Belt, in Virginia and I can tell you, they do religion very seriously. They really believe it. I count my self lucky that I grew up around such good people. I been on the West Coast for decades now, and it's hard to believe that I used to leave my bike outside everynight back home for years and it was never stolen.
What the heck are you talking about "studjockdude"? Why don't you open your mind! If creation is true, wouldn't God have created a fully matured earth, just like a grown adult, Adam? Why don't YOU open YOUR mind for once!

Very funny and well written book but if I were a Liberty University Student and read it, I'd be truly embarrassed. I mean compartmentalization or not, going to a university where they teach you the earth is 6,000 years old leaves you an intellectual cripple.
I'm a 5th year senior at LU, and have been around the school for even longer than that because my parents were alum's glad to hear about this book and can't wait to read it. I read an article in a magazine about by Kevin about dating at LU. Have to say wish that LU had old fashioned dating because my guy friends say they don't believe in dating anymore. But it will be an interesting perspective to read.
as a ::nonconformist:: product of LU... I am very thankful for this book... I have picked it up and have not been able to put it down! {{HIGHLY RECOMMENDED}}
I think this was a great idea! I am a Junior at LIberty and I think it's great that you actually came and experienced it! I can't wait to read the book!

An idea for your next book: Inside Brigham Young University. Never heard of it? Well it's a private college with mostly Mormons.
