um, tank bred of anything is going to be easier to care for than their wild counterparts. Being taken from a home they have known all their lives and then being thrown into square boxes is a real stress for them.
Person catches 10 fish, in transport and due to stress more than half die.. they then throw those away and by the time they reach the buyer estimates put it at 1 in 10 actually make it, some even give lower odds.. (1 in 20 or 25 etc) nobody can relly agree on the number but everyone admits that a lot die for every one to reach a buyer.
Hope that helped, lovely fish on top though..I'll just stick to the bred ones as no/less guilt for this lovely species.
Thanks for the explanation. But may cite Bernd Degen, an authority on keeping and breeding Discus fish (at least in Europe): 'Catching wild Discus fish is difficult work, which is done by natives. Whole families are occupied with fishing at tropical fish and in this way make their living. Fishing at tropical fish is an important income for the few families who live along the river bank. If they would have no further possibility to do this, then they would have to perform fire clearance in
in the jungle, in order to plant for example banana plantations there. Thus the aquaristics help to protect the tropical forrest, and even contributes to maintain species.' (translated from: 'Ihr Hobby Diskus', 1999, autor: Bernd Degen, publisher: Bedeverlag)
what is the TDS of the water- do you have to keep the water parameters the same . Its an amaizing set you have. I love the Wild Discus.also have you bred any
Congratulations it is wonderful.I have a 400 litres aquarium with ten discus fish but only one of them is wild.Keeping a group of wild discus is a real success and a beauty.
try this guy from wales Ebay ID overworld1 he has a fish farm & imports his Discus straight from the Amazon they are the best wilds you will ever see. ps hes nothing to do with me wilds are also harder to look aftre than tank bred Discus.
Are wilds like that more expansive usually?

buying wild discus is really stupid and wrong, u can get good quality tank bred discus which are used to live in captivity, its a shame!!!

Very nice discus, I'm jealous.

if you have 1st generation wild than its alot harder to keep than aquarium bred. since wild discuses are weaker in smaller aquariums (200-400l)

please don't keep wild discus, because to catch one good discus fish, fisher tends to harm and kill many.

Its really quite simple:
