Cher was already somewhat famous at this point, but it was this interview that really pushed her over the edge to Diva status. EVERYONE was talking about her calling Letterman an asshole. She pretty much went from C+ to B+ overnight. Of course Cher then built on that with her movies and the album.

She was hostile when she came on, and it seems she was right to be so! Dave was really an a bolero her in subtle ways and not so subtle ways. And I love Dave! Very strange, but I can identify- you get defensive if you feel threatened! And maybe he did.or maybe he is just an a hole. Oh well, she was gorgeous and he was funny. I guess it worked out.

People like Chris Elliot and Biff Henderson, or Larry BUD Melmon made the classic Letterman shows worth watching, and he did have funny lines like "I think you have a bus to catch", it's not really a dig at someone, it's mining for any good jokes, even at someone's expense...if they can play along, it's all about laughing and having a good time

Dave gave up drinking years before he started hosting late night shows and quit smoking cigars after his open heart surgery. EVERYONE "did" "Late Show" when he moved to CBS!  EVERYBODY including that f**k knob Bill O'Reilly. "Late Show" is the best of the best!

Yes! Before 2000, many big stars were afraid to participate in his show. They were accustomed to being treated like royalties but Dave saw and treated them like any other people. Contrary to Dave, Jay Leno kissed stars ass and was too nice to them. Dave had his heart surgery in 2000 and stopped drinking and smoking cigars. The new Dave was softer. Even though he was still very funny less unexpected thing happened on the air. Many stars revisited The Late Show. Operah, Cher, Madonna and many more

I do think she's smart. She came from a very poor family and became one of the most popular and bankable performers and you can't say she's not talented even if you don't like her: she used her image like nobody else and she's so good at multitasking (Tv Star, rock star, movie star). I do believe she is intelligent and she's not even acting like old diva bitches who believe they invented everything in music. She knows what she's worth but she never comes and says "Hey, I'm the Queen".
