@youngmistergrace just cuz theres no frets doesnt mean it cant have tabs, its still playing the same notes as a fretted bass, and hitting the same spots as a fretted bass player would
Oh man I fucking love all of these songs available on the internet. I'm going to always feel a void in my life knowing that none of their albums are in circulation.
@joeymashewharlow the song is a brilliant commentary based on observations of bloated and dimwitted American tourists waddling around Cork (in Ireland) it doesn't take much to work out how brilliant the lyrics are now, eh?
@emperorbevis I only wish an American band made a song about European tourists who come to America and do nothing but treat every ordinary citizen as a fucking suggestion box for our government. I understand how it can be annoying to have an American disrespect your country as a tourist, but it works both ways, there are stupid ass and annoying Euros, too. Americans often get the brunt of the blow when Europeans come here and do nothing but bitch about how America isn't enough like Europe.
@metalfaust19 I would like that song, especially if it was by RAtM.
What you must remember here is this is a promo for an eighties band, a time when transatlantic travel was pretty much the preserve of the rich and obnoxious. Now its us Brits are the ignorant and rude granted.
Actually the eighties the Anglo/Irish opinion of U.S. was very, probably the only dissenting voice was that of WW2 veterans embittered by seeing their friends shot by G.I.'s (American friendly fire is nothing new, lol)
@emperorbevis Of course, I know the exact type of Americans you speak of, I had the pleasure of growing up in the middle-class suburb that was right next to the rich area that was full of them. I'll admit America has a bad reputation for being asshole tourists, but the same crop of snobby people exists in all countries these days. I still cringe to think of Americans who go to Europe and talk about how America "won" WW2, I know those people exist and they make me lol when I meet them.
@metalfaust19 funnily enough I've not meet such like for about 15 years or so, every American I've encountered I've had great conversations bout this even the war of Independence. Me, I wouldn't dream of commentating on U.S. politics, Obama seems okay but I don't live under his policies, all I will say is he has a nice smile, heard he brews his own beer and doesn't start wars, so pretty much thumbs up. My only criticism of the U.S. as a country is one too many Brits there, i.e. Simon Cowell.
@metalfaust19 hahaha the United States is at war in 6 different countries and you're whining about the "brunt of the blow" from European tourists - too funny
i like when its different but its just not the same. just that one line is so crazy when you think about it. different and not the same mean the same thing, however they're "not quite the same," so their different, but not really cause they mean the same thing. like what the fuck
I think this song should be played at every all you can eat buffet in America. This song is on the level of Primus. I'm actually not a big fan of many of their other songs. I love how everyone this song insults would never understand that it's insulting them.
Finbarr Donnelly is turning in his grave. I think Stump are okay but only now I made the connection between these and Five Go Down to the Sea/Beethoven.
Oh and if you don't 'get' this sort of stuff. That's ok. You're just either too old or too young. Either way, just move right along. Nothing to see here.
Excellent. I was a (teenage honved) armchair Stump fan since mud on a colon, 198?. Witty but sort of literary and, in my 19 yr old substance-addled brain, even avant-gardey and beefhearty. haha! But everything Ron Johnson was, wasn't it? Almost up there with Bogshed/A Witness for me. Thanks for posting.
I really wish these guys would get together and tour again, they were hilarious, my favourite track of theirs is "tupperware stripper" and it is one of those tracks you'll be humming for weeks and you'll have an enormous smile on your dial while you're doing it ! Please Guys the music industry is taking itself far too seriously, we need that delightfully silly breath of fresh air! :-D
I followed Stump all over in the late 80s. Brilliant. Once stood next to Mick Lynch when the support were playing but was too much in awe of him to speak to him.
Thing was about this band, they played this stuff "note perfect" live. Fantastic, and a great laugh! Glad I saw em. best thing was, Edward Barton was the support act. If you dont know who he is, hes on youtube....
i first heard about stump roughly 4 years ago through my brother. there was an instructor on the site that my bro teaches on saying, "if you wanna hear the most horrible s*&t ever recorded, go here.."he played it for me as comic relief....little did he or i know that my love for stump would emerge that fine day : ) ever since, i simply love turning others on to this imaginative, truly original collective of minds. can you make your guitar sound like that? oh, and a vote for best dancer, ever.
This is quite quirky for your average square but in concert Stump were amazing! I saw them a couple of times in the 80s at small and medium sized venues and they got the whole joint rocking!
Audiences went crazy for them - this music sucked you right in.
This somehow reminds me of when I was high in 9th grade and to be able to encapsulate the sheer anxiety and unfamiliarity in sound is perhaps the most ingenious thing I've ever heard. Sure it sounds dissonant, that's because nowadays we listen to major scales played up and down to a 4/4 beat with drum machines and auto tune.
This song is great, for its complexity and originality. The chords used aren't just random, they have a progression. And the resolution at 1:22 is amazing.
@Crushkist I only saw this video on recommendation of my partner but makes me giggle so much the lead singers face not just make me laugh it makes me ROFL hahahah.. How much is the FISH how Much is The FISH?? Dose the FISH HAVE CHIPS. (dont mention hamburgers Harry)!!!!!!!! LOL
guys, you just DON'T GET IT. Explain how this is a disgrace to music? These guys had the bollucks do do something utterly original and out there. Fine, I get it if you don't like it, I can't judge that. But seriously, the musicianship is brilliant and you can't really plant this in a genre. If this is a disgrace to music, then just go back home and listen to Justin Bieber and watch the X-Factor. Nobody cares.
By the way, Stump are one of Mike Patton's favourite band. Nuff said. Have a nice day!
Absolutely love Stump, such talented musicians and clearly have enough imagination for all of those people that can't appreciate music that is different and unique!!
The only song i ever heard by STUMP was Charleton Heston. I've remembered it since the 80s, it was that impressive. This Buffalo song proves to me these guys were the mad artists i took them for. Does the fish have chips?
I've looked and looked for this track ever since You Tube was hatched - had the wrong bloody name for it - and tonight I go to sleep a very, very happy bunny - Stump were sublime, and now I have the proof xx
Saw Stump in 1986 in London. Amazing energy. This song is about the singer's experience selling fish and chips to tourists. My favorite band at the time. They were startlingly original, and were commercially unsuccessful for the same reason. Incredible bass player.
This makes me happy, I cannot play an instrument or hold a tune but these guys (who actually CAN!) choose to make something that I could emulate with a bunch of tone deaf children in my garage!!!
It took me a while to realise this wasn't another bunch of idiots posting vids of themselves on youtube. How sad that this was a real song and a real band...
Wow this song is awesome, i like the bass, but i'm sad that they are split, but anyway this was and it will be better than that mainstream bullshit like lady gaga and that faggot justin bieber.
A song about fat arsed americans coming to london .....it's a song about fat arsed american tourists meaning practically all american tourists in london.
the guy out of the golden cups makes flea sound like he's got one hand , the guy out of primus is supposed to be handy , but then again i hate slap bass no matter how good it is , have a listen to hey joe buy the golden cups on here , it is 60's yes but they were only youngsters 17 -18 or so
Love Stump. Went to see them play several times in the late 80s. Ah those were the days ...

Wow this song is awesome, i like the bass, but i'm sad that they are split, but anyway this was and it will be better than that mainstream bullshit like lady gaga and that faggot justin bieber.
