Personally, I'm torn about Shane's character. He had Otis killed by zombies, which was a terrible death and he had a relationship with Lorie, his best friend's wife.On the other hand, in the beginning he truly didn't know Rick was alive and he panicked as the hospital was taken over by zombies. Later, he starts the barn massacre, because the walkers were a serious threat for everyone and he tried to keep everybody safe, esp. Lori and Carl.

I'd like to see Shane "get his". He is a lot like Michael Raymond-James' character that Rick shot in the bar. Shane is willing to do anything to guarantee his own survival, and he becomes very dangerous when he is backed into a corner. However, unlike James' character I haven't seen Shane show the willingness to murder unless it was a life and death situation. Shane couldn't shoot Rick. He is brave and, in his own way, does what he thinks is best for the group.

What pissed me off is when he shot Otis in the knee, if he had one shot at least shoot him in the head to put him outta his misery and gotten away. He made a promise to get back to Carl so I get it. The accident in the forest led to the kid almost dying, Otis had that on his conscience, that's why he went off with Shane in the first place, to help the kid. What you're saying makes no sense. Why would he bother to risk his life if he didn't want to help the kid in the first place? And they were quite near the bus when all this happened so Otis being overweight wasn't really a problem.

If Shane had a fine foot, he could have just made a run for it and left Otis in the dust or maybe have escaped with Otis, but with the bad foot and Otis' weight, it seems like it was Shane's only option. Shane, however, has fallen into insanity so this action and his subsequent lying about it does prove symptomatic of something lacking with Shane.

Now, Carl's only hope is the slow guy who will probably be overrun on his own. Therefore, everyone dies. Great. Yeah but he still would have killed Rick in cold blood if Dale hadn't stopped him. Shane also threatened to kill Dale when he revealed he knew what almost happened to Rick and Otis's fate. How are those actions smart in any sense? In a zombie apocalypse the people who are the most likely to die are those that crack and kill their own support. Shane was in no danger when he did both of those things (Dale's liability is debatable at this point I will admit).
