  • Hey nutnfancy, question for ya: Do you have a preference on which direction the lean-to points? Or is it entirely dependant on the area? Here in Ohio, most of the weather comes from the west, but is there a universal rule or some bushman's secret to it? Thanks.

  • @zenmastervex the opening should generally face away from the prevailing wind.

  • why are you so partial to knifes rather then a hatchet or ax? for all that wood cutting?

  • @DragonRoLo My guess would be to test them in unusual or extreme circumstances. Imagine you're in a survival situation and lost your axe. Wouldn't it be nice to be confident that your knife could fill that role if needed? We all appreciate his time, money, and effort in testing these things so we all don't individually have to.

  • How did your jacket hold out? Your back is totally wet.

  • @Nutnfancy : I'm from Kentucky, a land of very few pine trees; that being said it gets real tough in winter using modern blades against the eastern hardwoods, especially when its super cold or on dead limbs. The wood is simply too hard and busts up modern steel pretty good. I've found that "old school steel" tools. i.e. iron or heavy headed steel hatchets or strong bladed knives work best. Even though you lose capability in packing weight, they work best out here. Love the vids as usual!!!

  • Good stuff! I still swear to my bacho laplander saw and my bk-2, but i would still love a esee junglas it would make certain tasks go faster, i never bring an axe anyway, did considder it but naaa, if i break my bk2 i probably did something criticaly wrong with it ;) im not in a rush when it comes to fire, my sleeping bag is good for -25c and even -35c if i setup fire, shelther and cloathing of course.

  • You're what happened when Huck Finn grew up!

  • i like the noise that rtak makes.

  • nutnfancy and bear grylls on man tracker. lol

  • Hey man watched a few of your gun review videos...Wasnt sure what i thought of you until your lean to videos...I have really enjoyed them...Keep up the good work...

  • Nutn.... Why do you always talk about blade weight.... and how you like big light blades but always carry three or four?

  • @justyoustupid Well you did notice at 12:00 minutes the bench-made broke. Two is one and one is none. But another reason he brings multiples is to test them for us. Which I greatly appreciate.

  • Why didn't you use your e-tool to help prune the branches

  • i wish my dad did that kind of stuff he was a lazy weapon scaredy

  • I have a serious question. What is the best knife for wet, cold, hot, and moderate tempurtures.

  • Serious Question: Should you scatter your traps Up-Wind within a say 45 degree radius?

Surly smaller animals will be deterred by your smoke and scent?

I think It could make it easier to plot everything on your map too, If you draw the boundaries, Should you mark trees nearby traps? How do you find a snare for example? I wouldn't want to leave any behind that might injure someone or their dog.

  • When you said "square knot," I immediately thought of the Japanese Square Lashing from my Pioneering Boy Scout pamphlet. All it is is a little bit more effective of a wrapping (though yours worked surprisingly well) than what you did, and you finish it with a square knot. Though most lashings are basically just a clove hitch with some wrapping. You might benefit from just reading the knot section of one of your kids' handbooks if you have a spare hour. More if you decide to practice, of course.

  • "I'll take the CSK II" - probably not anymore.

  • @maethorize A broken knife is still better than no knife...and that one only chipped.

  • Great vid, thanks! Too bad about that ridgepole though! ;)

  • That benchmade CSK was actually designed as a tactical letter opener. No delimbing 2" diameter trees

  • use a axe

  • Veri, What kind of Gloves and where does he get them? thanks.

  • hey nutn what do you think about the Gerber Bear Grylls Parang? and if you ever need a camera man, pm me and ill be there lol

  • you forgot bayou and and coastal conditions lol

  • @Petegrin1 omg, youre such a retarded! oh wait...

  • hi Nut outstanding video as aways! i have just 1 question for you.. have you ever seen or used that chinese shovel WQG 308? its a good E Tool? or it is stong as its appears on the videos or userfull as its appears? can you do a review on this please?

sorry if inglish its a little rusty and greetings from Brazil me and my friends love the TNP project!

  • hey id be your camerea man for any adventure

  • What's wrong with the chipped blade? You just made a serrated edge for free. LMAO!

  • arent you afraid of cougars?

  • @PBTvids Do you know who that is? That's Nunfancy? A cougar is no match for him. he will kill one by simply grinning at it. Nutnfancy is the only person brave enough to say Candyman 3 times infront of a mirror. MacGyver is one of the tools in Nutnfancy's swiss army knives. When the Boogeyman goes to sleep every night, he checks his closet for nutnfancy. There is no theory of evolution. Just a list of creatures nutnfancy has allowed to live.

  • @RightWingCon81 oh.. but i was just asking because cougars are stalking animals. tht love the snow. unless if he carries a gun. plus the brown bear 11 ft tall. 6 in claws and 3-4 in canines. im not sayin b afraid of them just to watch out...

  • @PBTvids Nutnfancy was mauled by a bear once, then the bear woke up and apologized

  • @RightWingCon81 God you are SO stupid!

    The bear didn't wake up...hahaha

  • @RightWingCon81 fucking amazin mate that coment was just genius ur a funny guy anyway man quility coment thumbs up dude

  • i have been out camping in the winter several times and each time the bottom of my tent (a nemo losi) has soaked through sometime during the night. i have tried several dropclothes all claiming to be waterproof, but non have worked. any ideas? thanks for the vids

  • @Slowboy123458

Simple cheap-ass nylon/plastic/whatever tarp. Buy 'em cheap, make two or three pieces a bit biger than the bottom of your tent, duct-tape 'em together. Place underneath your tent before setting up, it'll keep you dry.

Or just by a decent high-dollar tent (I use a Hillebergs Keron 2, no leakage). It might be a bit gucci but it's worth it to wake up warm n' dry.

  • Nutin, looks like your jacket is soaking through time to wash in some rejuvinator

  • use the knife as a spear

  • "i'd have thid area owned!" love that! great vids.

  • look at nutnfancy off in the wood bulding houses and crap way to go dude

  • I would like to see more of these survival videos with the testing involved. Its helpful for the choice of tools and the requirements and limits of weight compared to distance traveled. DO SOME MORE NUTN!

  • hey you should sighn up on discovery for a survival show. i'd watch it.

  • What, if anything, did Benchmade ever say about the failed blade?

  • i'm still pretty much a kid, 13 years old, i have been doing the same as you with my dad since i was about 5 i got all kinds of servival skills.

  • nvm survivor man hes more like bear from man vs wild, just more prepared and not as freakin crazy

  • I'm sure by now, there are a few thousand folks offering to be Nutn's camera person. Consider this one more. Amazing videos, keep up the awesomeness!

  • You mentioned bear and cougars while rare are in the area. Are you packing a sidearm and if so what is it

  • would a small machete work instead of a large knife

  • @emocircusops Knife is better for splitting cause its thicker, and that also makes it stronger.

  • i like when that blade chips and you show it to the camera before you noticed the chips at about 11:20

  • Great video!!! Having seen some on trails, I get the basic idea of building a shelter, but it always helps to solidify concepts as it is watched being made. I LOVE your knife clinics as it helps me expand my knowledge of knives, but more importantly the capacity in which I can use them.

Also I know you did a review on the Cold Steel trail boss, I was wondering if you had a more expansive review on that axe.

Thanks again! It's great to know that there is a wealth of information coming through

  • how do you like the bushman?

  • LOVE YOUR REVIEWS!!! Good job and thanx for posting the info.LOVE YOUR REVIEWS!!! Good job and thanx for posting the info.

  • Hi Veri or Nutnfancy.

In this series of videos, Nutn..talks about using a waterproof Sanyo Xacti camcorder. I was just wondering if he does use that camcorder in this video series of videos and if so, which model??

Keep up all the hard work in all the videos you make!!! There awesome!!!

    Take care,

    Don M.

    Michigan

  • Hey my dad was in the military what branch were you, My dad was marine recon for 6 years and Army ranger for 6 years, he was a sniper, he's taught me alot but there's no forests around us so we only go camping every year or so.

  • Hey my dad was in the military what were you, My dad was marine recon for 6 years and Army ranger for 6 years he was a sniper, he's taught me alot but there's no forests around us so we only go camping every year or so.

  • can you test the sog fusion fixation upt here i have it but i only use it in my backyard cant really go like where you go

  • does anyone know about the vid nutn was talking abouts that would involve the cold steel SRK on one of his trips. he talks about it at 13:15.

  • ill come out in a time like this id rather tan video games and im only 12 and my dad teaches me this one of the only things he hasent tuaght me is how to fight but he wont buy me any more knive swords or machetes for trying to kill my 2 oldest brothers forchocking me and i havent gone up stae ny in a while so ya

  • that rtac-2 is a beast but it looks more like a machete

  • lmao - your reaction to the chipped knife was classic!

Keep up the good footage A+

  • i want you to make some new videos building bigger shelters and doing homestead stuff man

  • "This blade is garbage!" First good laugh of the day.

  • also, taking a dog with you out into the woods is a great idea! if you were to get lost and hungry well you can roast up some doggy burgers!

  • would a Rambo bowie knife work in the snow and not chip

  • another good tip is to put logs on the floor and the stck spruce boughs on top of that, that way you are insulated and water will run UNDERNEATH your shelter

  • I'm thirteen, and i have gone out in the wilderness for a week with my friend because we both wen't through survival training from my dad and brother. My dad was in the Navy and my brother is in the Army National Guard. Our shelter took 2 hours and we did not have any equipment except a knife and a can. I believe that everyone should at least devote a month of their time to survival tactics.

  • WILSON!!!! lol nice vid

  • Hey i love these types of vids keep it up.... I though that it was pretty funny how that benchmade broke

  • the glock spade can have the sides sharpened to form a primitive hatchet the Waffen ss did this in ww2 when fighting the russians

  • He is bear grylls minus the brittish and staying in a hotel

  • your first problem is your sleeping on the ground

  • your first problem is your sleeping on the ground

  • But what use is a knife in your suitcase if your plane goes down? Forget bringing it on as hand-luggage.

  • just love the way you talk nutn, i can listen to you for hours and on some sundays i do :D Keep on dooing this vids, good job!

  • can you review the sog fusion

  • lol i know two who can survive my best friend and myself

  • great video, love the way you say dudes LOL

  • Liked my video games as a kid (still do!) but I sure wish my dad had taken me out in the woods!

  • 1095 carbon steel

  • what steel is the benchmade csk2 made of

  • Yes but what he is using is essentially a machete.

  • I strongly suggest you invest in a good machete or a woodsmans pal and stop beating on your knife. That bigger knife you have after all basically is a machete. Seriously look in to it!

    -hallman244

  • I'm fairly certain his clinics are to use tools that you would be likely to have with you, hence a knife is more likely to be in everyones possession.

  • make another one of these please!

  • Absolutlly agree with you on fathers teaching there son's mine did it also been doing it since I was ten and when my son is old enough I will pass it along, till then teachen my nephew's enjoy the vids keep up the good work and God bless.

  • Dude!

    flat knots are HORRIBLE!

i would encourage anyone to learn as many knots as possible.

the right knot can save allot of aggravation

    and maybe even your life.

    and knowledge weighs nothing.

  • right on! The right knot will save on cordage also.

  • Comment removed

  • Haha 11:32 ROFL. I have never seen someone so excited as Nutn when their knife chips lol.

  • i'll be your camera man, i'll go out there.

  • Digi - I accidentally deleted your other comment like this one, sorry! My bad. -- Veri (Nutn's sister)

  • Its alright Veri, i forgot what i commented.

but tell your brother, nutn, that i'll come out there and film. love to be hang around a pro and learn more outdoor stuff.

  • I'm tellin you, he's getting to the point where he really needs one. -- Veri

  • @DigitalCard I think he should have his own tv sshow and he should stay in his shelters and hunt and fish to show how to survive and i would love to comeout and watch him do stuff to, and maybe help a little bit lol

  • @DigitalCard your also 13-15 so good luck

  • Thanks!! Very cool!!

  • hey nut ever think of getin an axe? a good axe is better than the best knife.

  • Why are you subbed to a man that believes a knife is a great tool. You follow"The Young Turks" and claim that a knife is not more than adequate for most people for most of their lives, you are on your own here man, sorry I think you are far wrong and far outside of your own ability to conceptualize truly adequate and factual information at the age of 24 and a Young Turk fan.

  • @IKLIPTIC Well nutn is a smart guy, and knows what he is doing. I just like using an axe for processing wood...

  • @spiderpig85 Far enough and respected, a capable and diverse individual will overcome whatever the issue is. God bless bro.

  • @IKLIPTIC Can you speak english and not just dump words out on a page in a way that makes other people think that you're an acid freak idiot? Don't try to sound smart if you have no idea what you're talking about.

  • glad you joined in the conversation, God bless you as well.

  • quick tip, soaking your cord in a soft wax like sex wax makes like easier with knots

  • you should make a video on you cooking your food with an alcohol stove or something on one of your next AWESOME expeditions

  • that sux about his knife i use a pilots knife all the time and i love it i allso got a 119 buck knife its grate have not tryed it in the cold yet but winter is coming ;) thaks man

  • Another excellent video Nutn. Your right too about the kids, got to pry them away from the computer and start learning survival skills....

even in this day and age of hi -tech everything

you have to get basic sometimes !

I live for this stuff and plan accordingly.

  • just let 'em see nutn's video first, then take em away!

  • hey dude you need to invest in a head mounted mic !!!!

  • Thanks Nutn; this is good stuff to know, and you're great for sharing it.

  • i learn so mucj from him

  • There is something to be said for a softer, tougher blade, I think. Yes, it will dull faster. But, it won't have such a propensity to shatter.

  • Did he put a gun to people's heads forcing them to buy it? NO. What you do with your money is your responsibility and whether or not you use nutnfancy's advice is up to you.

so stop being a drama queen. That knife is not a "piece of crap" It's just not suited for heavy jobs.

  • Well, in fact NutnFancy himself says "this knife is garbage". So, care to change your comment? I just said exactly what NutnFancy said. "Garbage", "Piece of crap". It's the same thing in my book.

  • The pou for that knife is for large survival knife. For the ounces required you could pick up an rtack 2 and have better capability.

  • Excuse me I called POU for the CSK2 as large survival knife.....I ment to say small and for the extra ounces I would pack in an Rtak2

  • he did test it he said in his review do you think he ran out all the way to this mountian no obviously not and its freezing its not like normal pepole are going to be running around doing this or it would not be lonley there would be way more pepole

  • of the knives hes tested before, the benchmade was made of good materials. like 1095. and for gods sake its a benchmade so that has a lot to say right there. of course he can recommend this blade. if i held one i probably would too. Stop trying to blame things on nutnfancy and move on with your life. If people are smart and they want to save their blade they just dont have to take it out in this type environment. and if its that big of a deal that there out a bit of money, thats life

  • Do you recommend a Glock Spade over a US issued Ames e-tool?

  • one more thing nutnfancy do you or did you carry a firearm with you on this stay?

  • i reckon the kahr pm9 (fanny pack) a glock maybe or the ruger 10/22, judging by previous vids, im keen to know aswell

  • what pistol do you carry on your adventures?

  • cant u just leave two branch stubs so you can make like two more dead falls or snares.

  • your awesome dude.. thx for all the knowhow

  • "It's only 18 degrees out here, it's not that cold." :)

  • Nutn = superman + Gi joe. Lol

  • Nutn=Chuck Norris+survior Man

  • No men in my family do things like this...thanks for being an internet survival dad!

  • What do you do with your truck?

  • dude love the videos. I am probably what you would call a arm chair survivalist but unlike most armchair survivalists I do get out in the woods as often as possible. I am also a cub scout leader and try to teach my boys (one is my son) how to survive in the wilderness. I steal ideas shamelessly so keep them comming. I have an SP5 and have used it often to do the samethings you are doing in this vid. I have never had a minutes trouble so I can recomend it as well for light to med. chopping.

  • I wonder if he ever had the blade on that csk reprofiled... wouldn't something like the angle of that cutting edge being too sharp possibly cause the blade to be prone to chipping? I'm no expert. You guys (or nutnfancy) tell/teach me.... is that possible?

  • blade material, thickness, forging (i.e. rockwell hardness) even cutting edge pitch will contribute to blade failure. The tempature he is working in in this video may have contributed or it could be that the knife is just crap. Benchmades are usually good knives but they can make crap also. The rtak2 he is using seems to be a good knife for what he is using it for. I have used my SP5 for the same and have had great results. I have put what I call a dual grind on mine.

  • thats why i trust your word you prove shit!

  • love the vids keep up the great work

  • I fucken love watchen these videos cuz

  • what is the first Nutnfancy video?

  • I grew up in the woods too. I wish I had thought of knee pads when I was messing around in the woods. You go ahead and don't wear them and freeze your legs and tear up your pants and call me lame in my knee pads while I'm warm and comfortable with my cloths in one piece.

  • DUDES

  • Oh indeed dude!..the attitude makes up for so much over skills!

I have doene lots of reading into the "act of will"....the will to carry on , overcome and adapt!

    Makes up for lots!

    Peace man!

  • Haha "this blade is garbage."

  • i have heard a lot of trash about Benchmade knives, but this is the first time i see one breaking like that. I think they have some good designs but in a overall, Benchmade seems to sucks.

  • What type of steel are they? Handmade? how thick is the steel?

  • different types they use on their different models with different thickness

Benchmade handmade?haha, i dont think so. I mean, that company use to make claims that are totally false and thats a good reason for not to trust them. Just look in the web, they are many well documented testimony

  • Use your bread knife! does the plaza have one?

  • LOL that benchmade, what a piece, looked like some nanites got a hold of it.

  • just remember, the bigger the shelter, the harder it is to warm it...

  • at the end it sounded like he said he was going to hang a granary what was he really saying? greenery maybe?

  • where could I even get a glock shovel?

  • Comment removed

  • Use a military foldable shovel, just as good and very resiliant to ware and tare

  • i have one that was used by my Grandpa in the Korean War after WW2 its awesome stainless steel u can smash it throw it shoot it and the lock will still work like a charm and its nice to use when digging down deep

  • Oh yeh no doubt, i purchased an old one from a military surplus store cheap, hasnt let me down, still as hardy as it ever was :)

  • cabelas

  • I couldn't understand what the name of that knife you really liked around 14:30 and throughout the most of the vid. Could someone tell me what it is and where I might be able to get one?

  • ontario rtak II

  • Okay thanks!

Do you know anywhere to get it cheeper than $95-$110?

  • no i don't

    sry

  • Okay, well thanks!

  • It was the RTAK II. He has vids on it.

  • mmhmm thanks

  • U should take ur kids with u sum time to teach them! that would be great for them!

  • I think they already know how to do all this.

  • ... I think he has.?.. other videos *hint*

  • Nice video, i wish you could do some in a wet or swampy environment.

  • dude i had few beers w/e.... i love nutnfancy

  • love these vids, traps, trout lines shelters, pure man shit, go home sissies

  • you said you were inthe military have you ever seen combat

  • he is married of cource he has seen combat lol

  • Never done this, but, question for you. Do you think that leaving part of the branches on the exposed side of the lodge poles would help hold the thatching? Just a thought.

    Thanks for the great videos!
