@andoc I completely agree. FFIV DS remake is so stupid. Even though DS graphics are more advanced technology, they look so ugly compared to original. They should remake an old FF (VI or VII) into a game with as good as it gets visuals.
I preferred green-haired Terra over blond. I've played FF6 (3 on SNES) since I was in kindergarten. I would absolutely LOVE them to remake it in full 3D. I know many fans would consider it a disgrace, but after beating the game several times, It would be an interesting perspective for it., so long as it only changes graphic-wise.
@TheXanondorf Yeah sorry but they cant sequal this one. Impossible. Because it would have nothing to do with FF6's world as we play it. There will be no changes.
Fact is, Squenix is errified: It might make the last of their older fans leave. for the record I own: FF2SNES, FF4Chronicles, FF4 GBA, FF4 DS, FF4 After Years, abd finally, Four's compolete story...
FF6 is largely considerd one of the best games ever. Anything, it will be ruined. And they cant afford that now.. And its inevitable too
I've never played Final Fantasy VI (wish I did and I'm thinking of getting it) so I have to ask...What are the themes that play throughout this video? They're. So. F***ing. Awesome.
@Kirascry Opens with a segment of "Dancing Mad", then goes over to "Decisive Battle", followed by "Atma Weapon" (all 3 being boss battle themes) and finally a portion of the ending theme, I believe. (All from Final Fantasy VI)
terra is my secret crush, celes is my girlfriend, lock is my role model, mog is my cuddly pet, and shadow is just plain badass!
PS; how different would final fantasy be, and how would the console wars have changed if squaresoft had went through with its original plan to put FF7 on the N64?
@ForgeOfIntelligence i thought this said ffvii (what linked me to it said it was 7). for 6, it would have been fine, but if you were to compare an n64 ff7 to a ps1 ff7, the n64 one would be fail. however, on it's own it would probabl;y still be a great game.
@Bastiest did you read what i said? cuz i thought i said the entire package as a whole and not just the game[play], yo know?
Sakaguchi, "As a result of using a lot of motion data + CG effects and in still images, it turned out to be a mega capacity game, and therefore we had to choose CD-ROM as our media. It other words, we became too aggressive, and got ourselves into trouble."
FFVII was excellent on the play station 1... It would had been EPIC in a proper nintendo 64 bits console (i.e. with more storage capacity such as an external disc).

Final Fantasy have in every game sexed up the characters. even in the 2D games! but let's take the 3D games now for an example: Big tit Tifa, that-teacher-evrybody-wants-to-bang-Quistis, peach-ass-Garnet, Epic-Cleavege-Lulu, Neko-Hentai-What-Their-names-are from FFXI, The playboy bunny in FFXII... @effthedodgers Dude, don't knock it if you wanna complain about it, everyone is so balls deep in VII when VI actually set the milestone for it, VII started too many things that make Final Fantasy suck today.
Incorrect. She's referred to as Tina (JP name for Terra) in all extensive media coverage of the demo. Want proof? Check the magazine scans they have up on Lost Levels in their old feature for it.
I'm an FF fan, and I do think that X-2 was bad, but once you get used to FF 12 it's fun, the only thing I didn't like about FF 12 was that the scenery was.... Dull.
The only reason this was even made was so that the Square team could get their heads around coding real-time systems on an SGI pipeline, as the MIPS (at the time a subsidiary of SGI) R4300i (which was manufactured by NEC and rebadged the VR4300) was a scaled down Onyx2 graphics/audio pipeline complete with reduced Reality instruction set.
For all intents and purposes this was not FF64 nor an N64 engine basis, it was just practice coding for a project that would, FBOW, never see the light of day.
this video was actually intended to show a preview of the upcoming ff7 using ff3 (vi) characters to the sig graph audience by showing the power of the N64, however square ended up having beef with nintendo and so this 3D concept that square was thinking up was used on playstation for ff7. nintendo really fucked up, but hey...we ended up having the greatest rpg ever come out of it. FF7 + PS1 = greatest thing since anything
I just laughed a bit, greatest rpg ever? HA! FF7 was a horrid game. ALL Final Fantasy games sucked except 6. Title of best RPG ever goes to Earthbound and Earthbound alone no matter what you say.
I just though FF7 was plain horrid. I liked FF6 despite it's flaws (how short it was, how boring the random encounters were etc.).
But FF7 had decent music and early on the fights were kinda fun, but then they got boring about 3 hours in. Also, why 3 discs? 2, ok. 3, no. Just no, games should only be 1 or 2 discs.
Three disks was more of an arrogance thing as appose to something that added to game play. In 1994 if you're twelve years old and playing this on SNES. Trust me, it's long. I have an older brother I know.
Why do people want things to be remade? Asking Square to remake such game experiences as Final Fantasy 6 or 7, what is the point? As the video game industry tends to be more and more like the movies one, in a way, with all its components (music, graphics, writing, CGI...), do all those youngsters want to see the video game studios kill the essence and memories of the games by remaking them, totally like Hollywood is doing with old movies, in its present lack of creativity and greed for money?
unless they remake it by improving the graphics only. then it's ok. Look at the PS1 game Metal Gear Solid. They improved the graphics for the Gamecube and it kicked ass.
ehh. I like ff7 but I cant really say you need to play it or youll be missing something. its ok at best, controls aresnt really that good (unless in battle). its way too hard, to beat it, youll need things like the ultima weapon (fairly easy on disc 3) and the omni slash (extremely hard to get unless you just wanna see it easily after you kill sephiroth the first time). so I wouldnt reccommend playing it unless its like youll die without it.
know that very well but for the past few months i started playing the ff games I-VI (except III cause i couldn find it) and i really want to play the ps1's along with ffx and ffx-2 and maybe XII. bad controls arent a problem and you dont really need the ultima weapon and omni-slash to defeat safer sephiroth you just need some leveling up (despite the fact that sephiroth gets stronger as you do), good materia, skill and a tiny bit of luck. Easy.
FFX-2 is absolute trash, it's the #1 worst game in the series. (With XII coming in a close second in my opinion and apparently nobody else's). But the real reason i responded was to tell you that the only american copy of FFIII that was ever released was within the past 3 years and it's only on the nintendo DS. (Because Square-ENIX and Nintendo are soul-sucking demons from hell)
as awesome as this would be, the DS wouldn't be able to handle this good of detail quite yet unless they've made some drastic improvement with the DSi
The DS was released in 2004, which is ten years after the N64. If you look at the releases of consoles and the handhelds that equal their graphical power, a handheld comes out a decade after its console. The PS2 was released in 2000, so the time for a handheld equaling the PS2 is close. FFV will prolly be released before FFVI, so we should get V in 2010, which will be around the same time Ninty releases the DS2, and VI in 2011 or 2012.
I don't know about you, but I'd be just happy with PS2 graphics. And maybe they'll remake VII and VIII on the DS2, which means that we'll see Terra, Cloud, and Squall all in the graphics style of the Kingdom Hearts series. (which looked really good if I remember)
However, if they remake VI, VII, and VIII on the DS/DS2, then I want them to incorporate more touch screen features, like with Sabin's blitz's and Cyan's bushido. III and IV could be played without the stylus which made the game feel a lot like their original counter parts.
So, here's to 6 thru 8 on the DS2!
((And for those wondering why I left out IX, I'm hoping they remake it on the DS3 with X and XII. Cus is just that awesome and no one likes 11))
Unfortunately, this video has yet to show up in any better quality than the one I've uploaded here from the Final Fantasy VII Sampler disc. And the YouTube encode is "almost" 1:1 to that video in terms of quality.
@Carnivol I HAD a better copy about 10 years ago. One good enough to read the spell names on the side and command prompts running on the bottom. I downloaded it off of a regular websites about RPGs but the same quality video has not shown up.
Hey thanks for uploading this, most of the Final Fantasy VI-2 videos are all copy and bad quality, but this one was perfect. I think Square Enix should come back to this idea and release this for the Wii or something, because I don't think it would be right if it were on the PS3 because, FFVI got its name and fame on a Nintendo console(SNES) and has been revieved on a Nintendo handheld(GBA) there for I think it would be right if it was on the Wii, I do have a PS3 also, but still...
for the time it was one of beauty gems, now it just looks as some ffVI mixed with VII xD..still they did creat work with the ff6 chars on that video... bkdbear is right...take that long to kill a monster would be suicide if they put a countdown on every monster, but still i would have tryed it..even if with 3-4 monster the cd would have been full filled up with all those atacks and move respecting the character and hitting a diferent sequence on every monster :\..still great for the time!
This was essentially the same thing they did for Final Fantasy VII's PS3 tech demo in 2006: they took the latest cutting edge technology and showed it off on a fan-favorite, in this case, FF6.
This is NOT a tech demo for Nintendo 64. It's an interactive game demo for Silicon Graphics Onyx supercomputers with RealityEngine graphics subsystems. These machines were higher-end than even normal SGI workstations. SGI Onyx/ RealityEngine systems cost $100,000 and UP. people make this mistake all the time. it's not running on N64, or N64 dev-kits or even SGI workstations and it's not called Final Fantasy 64.
All they would've needed to do was speed up the battles, and it would've did wonders on the N64.. Though I'm glad it was in 2D because FFVI is the best.

@justbobert Uh yeah, except game itself wasn't much more than what N64 cartridge could hold at maxium.

Infact, Whole game would've easily have fit in to one CD if it weren't for the videos.

@Bastiest one CD is still bigger than an N64 cartridge.
and the game would have been a lot less epic without those videos. i'm not saying worse, but i am saying as an entire package, much less.

I really dunno about that since cutscenes aren't really that important aspect of a gameplay.

Hmm, really interesting.
Cool video, but I beleive that Terra had blue hair, didn't she?

Hey thanks for uploading this, most of the Final Fantasy VI-2 videos are all copy and bad quality, but this one was perfect. I think Square Enix should come back to this idea and release this for the Wii or something, because I don't think it would be right if it were on the PS3 because, FFVI got its name and fame on a Nintendo console(SNES) and has been revieved on a Nintendo handheld(GBA) there for I think it would be right if it was on the Wii, I do have a PS3 also, but still...

This mode 7 technology that they developed at the time was how FF VII got it's style of graphics ^^

for the time it was one of beauty gems, now it just looks as some ffVI mixed with VII xD..still they did creat work with the ff6 chars on that video... bkdbear is right...take that long to kill a monster would be suicide if they put a countdown on every monster, but still i would have tryed it..even if with 3-4 monster the cd would have been full filled up with all those atacks and move respecting the character and hitting a diferent sequence on every monster :\..still great for the time!

If they ever decide to make a Final Fantasy VI DS, they should include this as an extra. I hear it even uses drawing shapes to use commands.

that would be stupid

Quite interesting...

This was essentially the same thing they did for Final Fantasy VII's PS3 tech demo in 2006: they took the latest cutting edge technology and showed it off on a fan-favorite, in this case, FF6.
DanPMK 4 years ago 6
It's also not called Final Fantasy VI.
AirRaidX 4 years ago
This is NOT a tech demo for Nintendo 64. It's an interactive game demo for Silicon Graphics Onyx supercomputers with RealityEngine graphics subsystems. These machines were higher-end than even normal SGI workstations. SGI Onyx/ RealityEngine systems cost $100,000 and UP. people make this mistake all the time. it's not running on N64, or N64 dev-kits or even SGI workstations and it's not called Final Fantasy 64.

They did this to practice making CGI for FF7. I read it up on Wikipedia in which I had found out about this. Just look it up, it's on wikipedia!
takethisfucker 4 years ago
but this is NOT prerendered CGI. it's realtime on SGI Onyx / RealityEngine supercomputers.

maybe they are planing something perfect for the FFVI the perfection needs more perfection and time

I DEFINATELY would have preferred this over the FFVII we have right now.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
You sure have strange tastes...
plits 4 years ago
@killuoff yeah would've been nice, but Square didn't want to spend the money for the significantly more expensive N64 cartridges.

genial el video. BAHAMUT es lo mejor, no me imagino un juego sin él.
Htorifes 4 years ago
All they would've needed to do was speed up the battles, and it would've did wonders on the N64.. Though I'm glad it was in 2D because FFVI is the best.
