  • Love Barbra!!!

  • i wish it was jason reitman. i loved up in the air!! but congrats to kathryn!

  • holy hotness

  • Kathryn Bigelow is a wonderful director. After watching classics like Point Break, Near Dark and K-19: The Widowmaker, there is no doubt this woman, like her Ex. Jimmy Cameron, can turn anything to gold. I didn't really like The Hurt Locker, but I will admit its pretty cool seeing a Female Director win an Oscar.

Congrats Kathy. Keep up the great work and continue to make great films.

  • Tarantino.

  • Way to ruin the suspense with your stupid comment, Barbra.

  • What's the title of the music at 1:46?

  • personally I have the opinion of John Pilger. Fuck Hurt Locker and the horse it rode in on

  • The voice over lady Said Barber Streisand.. what?

  • @EyemTuff yes, is a real persona, a singer... -. -

  • Love Barbra!

  • lolz at barb's correct walk. I love her.

  • james cameron already won for titanic and he had banged Kat Bigelow...something's gotta give

  • @majafaja999 He wasn't banging her this time round. They divorced. Maybe if he was still banging her he would have won for Avatar :D

  • I think it was kind of rude for Barbara to say, "Well the time has come". Kathryn deserved that award, no doubt, but I don't think she should have stomped out all of the other competition with that line before announcing Kathryn as the winner. That was heartless.

  • @Dank951

Although she isn't saying, "Well, it's about time too..."

She's just saying that an historic moment has arrived.

  • @Dank951 not all of them, it could have been the African American too

  • Does anyone know what song or tune they played just before Barbara Streisand started to speak?

  • @fretandstrut An orchestral version of the song "The Way We Were", sung by Barbra Streisand, from the original soundtrack of Sidney Pollack's "The Way We Were", starring Barbra Streisand and Robert Redford.

  • Just make a war film with the USA being the savior of the world that already guarantees a three statuettes, as the old men of the academy melt. Tarantio infinitely superior to Inglourious Basterds, but note that it was up to third on the list because they were yet to get fit James Cameron with his blue aliens as a second option. This award is for me not to reference anything that is not is not the force of politics in Hollywood.

  • Oh Streisand. So untalented and so ugly and so jealous she ain't got it

  • @Mullmill Ain't got it? She's the most honored person in the history of American entertainment.

  • Oh Streisand. So untalented and so ugly

  • Isn't it odd how she said that it could be a woman for the first time like it was the most exciting thing in history, but the fact that it could be an african american was just minor news! I'm not sexist (Bigelow was absolutely deserving in her win), and I don't think that Barbara Streisand is racist, but I certainly think it shows something about hollywood's current mindset.

  • @nickjudt what do you mean minor news?? The audience clapped and cheered louder when she said "African American"

  • Tarantino should have fucking won

  • shes overrated, hurt locker was good but empty

  • She's so classy and beautiful. I love how elegant and intelligent she is but also so down to earth. Love her!

  • Quentin Taratino should have won

  • "Barber Streisand". Really?

  • So fitting that Barbara would be giving her this award, right?

  • I love Barbra, but what the hell is she wearing?

  • Barbra Streisand should have been the first woman to win Best Director for Yentl. She egregiously wasn't even nominated.

  • It took over 82 years for this moment to happen. I hope it doesn't take another 82 years for another woman to come along and have this accomplishment happen again.

  • @JadenJewel18 Not really 82 years, Woman have only been Directing for about 20 years sweetie,so its only been by Men,so really its only taken 20 years to happen......

  • @Gothic2009ad Actually there have been female directors since the 50s, such as Ida Lupino. There just haven't been as many.

  • @Gothic2009ad Actually there have been female directors since the 50s, such as Ida Lupino. There just haven't been as many.

  • @LauraBarton93 Actually there have been female directors since the beginning of film in the 1890s. Look up Alice Guy-Blache.

  • @JadenJewel18 We still need an African-American winner now. Only Lee Daniels and John Singleton have been nominated.

  • I love Barbra so much... she is so cute ...

  • Quentin Tarantino was not only robbed for Best Screenplay that year, but also for Best Director!!! >:(

  • Kathryn?Really? :-DDD worst mistake in the history of film.

  • All I can concentrate is her awesome strong arms:)

  • IB and THL were the two best movies that year. Avatar was all special fx.

  • Streisand never deserved an Oscar for best director so to think it was sexism is ridiculous. Direct a great movie and then we'll talk.

  • @Tigerlily21 well, We Need to Talk About Kevin was the best film of last year in my opinion, but Lynne Ramsay wasn't even nominated.

  • Politics, Politics, Politics, don't get me wrong, she directed the movie great, but come on, James Cameron deserved the win.

  • @TheMakinChilli Thank u for saying the truth

  • @TheMakinChilli No, actually he didn't. The movie was way overrated because of the technology used in the film. Not Oscar worthy.

  • I liked The Hurt Locker. But come on, Inglorious Basterds was easily the best movie that year. None of these movies even came CLOSE!

  • Girl Power! (Im a girl who wants to be a director!)

  • @MalescoM Good luck with that

  • Lets be fair Jim should have won this...look at what he achieved with avatar.

  • @simcha42 - thanks for the heads up! Prince of Tides was an incredible film, hard to imagine barbara not being nominated.

  • @funwithknives00 She was for Best Picture

  • I did not enjoy Avatar [District 9 fan] but I was shocked that Hurt Locker beat it.

  • too funny, her husband left her for another woman then here he loses an oscar for his sexual alien movie halol

  • a woman wins best director, about frigging time

  • @culturevulture123 - You DAM RIGHT!!! IT IS ABOUT TIME!!!

  • @culturevulture123 not just a woman but a woman who has directed a great, legitimate war film, its been a long time since any man has done thst let alone a woman!

  • I respect Barbara, but I doubt she would give a shit if Lee Daniels won the Oscar. She was really there to see Kathryn Bigelow win it.

  • And the Oscar goes to...BARBRA STREISAND FOR YENTL, that motherfucking amazing film she made in 1983 and she was never nominated to Best Directing cause we were stupid sexists.

  • I love Streisand's dress, it looks so unique

  • Im glad James Cameron didn't win, Avatar may have been a visually stunning and technologically ground-breaking film, but it was crap and overrated,

  • @sheMan32 I agree. The Hurt Locker was amazing though

  • @sheMan32 A-fucking-men

  • @sheMan32 True! Let's realize it, avatar fans... It wasn't going to win. It wasn't even nominated for best writing!

  • @sheMan32 This category is best director... not best motion picture... wake up! Oscars are very political

  • Hey, I love Tarantino, my favourite director by far, but Kathryn Bigelow deserved this Oscar.

And Quentin's gonna win for "Django Unchained" anyway, so it doesn't matter :)

  • @ZeppelinBigFan

bit presumptuous when he hasn't even begun filming it

  • She seemed awkward with Jeremy lol

  • Did the announcer say "Barber Streisand"?

  • Nobody deserved this award more than Bigelow

  • I think James Cameron (avatar) should of been for best director for revolutionise the film world.

this doesn't have anything to do with it but it did gross $2.8 billion

  • Love that end shot of Bigelow with Streisand. =)

  • cant she go down those stairs herself?!

  • nobody cares about the african american considering the remark on her face

  • tarantino should have won

  • That's well and good Academy, giving the award to a woman, but when is Tarantino going to get the award he deserves?

  • BARBRA STREISAND should have been the first woman to receive this award! And after her snubs (particularly in this category), the Academy knows they've done wrong by Streisand and sought to correct it by having her present the award! Lovely to see... but can't help but feel that Barbra Streisand should've won this for her truly exceptional work on both Yentl and Prince of Tides! Perfection! I hope Streisand directs again in the future and wins it for real!!!

  • Shut the fuck up, Barber

  • and she is almost 60? WTF?

  • I still can't comprehend the fact that QT hasn't won an Oscar till now.

  • @shotta0121 he has won an Oscar for screenplay.

  • @shotta0121 Best Orignal Screenplay for Pulp Fiction!!

  • i'm also tarantino fan.. but better bigelow than cameron

  • No way man, not even saying inglorious bastards should have won. But this movie wasnt great. And I loved the film

  • oh no....c'mon tarantino is been screwed in this awards edition. the hurt locker is fresh water compared to the basterds. that's it.

good for the women - and the great bigelow - but has nothing to do with movies to turn down such a perfect work

  • @woshushe agreed.....inglorious bastards was far more entertaining. The hurt locker was a snooze fest, and it's a kids movie compared to the all time great war movies like saving private ryan or black hawk down.

  • @woshushe agreed

  • oh no....c'mon tarantino is been screwed in this awards edition. the hurt locker is s**t compared to the basterds. that's it.

good for the women, but has nothing to do with movies

  • @simcha Well done, I couldn't have said it better than you...Yes, you and I know the truth of The Academy...Streisand has earned Best Director for Prince of Tides, However, The Academy has chosen to snub her at every turn. Remember that her Academy award was shared with Katharine Hepburn. I feel for her as she presents this award...she should have been the first woman to receive an Oscar for her efforts.

  • must be kinda awkward sitting behind your ex-wife

  • Saw her speak and take questions tonight at MoMA in NY where they're having a complete retrospective of her movies. Wonderful, articulate, gracious, and one of the most strikingly beautiful women I've ever seen. If I'd encountered her 20 or 30 years ago, I might've dropped dead.

  • i thought barbra streisand was the first woman to win an oscar for best director?

  • @Kfulo - you might be thinking of the Golden Globes - Streisand was the first (and is stil the only) woman to have won that award for Best Director. She hasn't been nominated for an Oscar for directing though.

  • the girl said 'barber streisand' :p wtf

  • Well said Brad Pitt - 'The Set is Church, Director is God and no Heretics allowed' - well now we have a Goddess in the set! Anyone knows what's her next film?

Watch some of our shorts on ||| mypixelstory |||

tag along with indie spirit !

  • can any one please tell me what is that piece of music's name when brabra streisand came out?

  • @hugoliaobaihao The Way We Were.

  • lol 5:36 james cameron's like " i can't fuckin' believe it. "

  • 'women' first before men...

  • Yes, Tarentino is a good directer, but look at what Kathyryn had to work with.

Judging by the consistant dessert scenery and drab surrondings of the film location, she managed to make it an exciting and enthraling film. That takes talent.

  • I was cheering when this happened. THE HURT LOCKER was fantastic. Best film that year. Truly.

  • The Oscars suck.

  • @Amputate no, u suck. badly.

  • damn she has some broad shoulders

  • the moment Streisand walked onto the stage, I knew Bigelow had won. Not because Streisand is a woman, but because Streisand made a comment at an Oscar telecast years ago, when the theme was "Year of the Woman", saying she looked forward to the day the Academy didn't celebrate gender, but the excellence of the work. It's as if Streisand was given a sort of comeuppance, awarding the highest achievement in directing to the woman who would win it.

  • @lajeteefan : I knew that too and I did want Kathryn to win because it The Hurt Locker was a really good movie, but I cannot stand Barbra at all!! She makes want to puke!!

  • cameron was robbed

  • this was such a bad presentation, when barbra streisand mentioned "for the first time a woman or a black man" she should have made a joke about barack and hilary. and when she says " well the time has come" it would have been super funny if Lee Daniels would start celebrating in his seat while he was on camera

  • Cried that night, now I have a chance to be a woman director -

    Even though I'm a guy.

  • lol tarantino got robbed again... again...

  • @Danetto NOT THIS TIME he didn't

  • @Danetto Yes.. But his Best Director Oscar will come eventually..

  • Barbra's short. :) How cute!

  • I can't believe it took so long for a woman to win for best director. I mean there's been a lot of good female directors in the past..

  • I can't believe it took so long for a woman to win for best director. I mean there's been a lot of good female directors in the past..

  • after knowing that Barbra Streisand was going to present this award, every movie maniacs know that Kathryn's gonna win. just like Bigelow, Barbra was a very talented director. and better yet, she's a woman!

    u go girlfriend!

  • @giasthedirector Yeah, I had that same feeling. Kind of like how I knew Scorsese was going to win when Spielberg, Lucas, and Coppola came out to present.

  • I remembered I cried so proud inspire me to be a director

  • First woman, wow. This marks history!

  • @Chars13x The only thing Tarantino excels in is writing and directing dialogue.

  • shity scene set

  • "...I've admired, some of whom for decades."

    I bet you did.

  • why they didn't pick james cameron to win i mean i'm not against a women for being best director i saw the hurt locker and if it was that good she could of deserve it but the hurt locker i don't see how that movie is worthy for best picture

  • Be sure to watch her next directorial effort, "The Foot Locker", starring Daniel Day-Lewis.

  • 0:05 Why does it sound they're saying "Barber Streisand"?

  • to those of you who do not comprehend the significance of barbra's presentation - her film, the prince of tides, was nominated for a mulititude of oscars, including best picture, but babs was not recognized even by a nomination for best director. the snub was apparent, and the recognition afforded babs by given the honor of this presentation was the very least the academy could do for their egregious snob of years ago. i believe that both streisand and bigelow were truly honored by the moment.

  • @simcha42 Thanks for outlining that, didnt know that. I have never seen "The Prince of Tides", Ill have to check it out.

  • @simcha42 Barbra did recieve an Oscar nom for Best Picture for that film. Let's also not forget she was a two time winner as well

  • This was the best moment of the Oscars for me, personally. I was unsure whether I was cheering for the inspiration Kathryn Bigelow gives us all or just the look on James Cameron's face. :D

  • I did a research paper on Kathryn and I just have to say that this award has been waiting for her for years. It will be Tarantinos Time some other year.

  • babs probably had a nervous breakdown backstage! :P

  • Quentin should've won. This was a somewhat political award.

  • Are you kidding me... "the first time a woman is nominated she wins it"... actually she was the fourth woman to be nominated, the first to win. Get you facts right. This is what women have to put up with every day... bull from jealous men

  • Ah btw, to all people who thinks that Tarantino should have won. Yes he should have one for Reservoir Dogs or Pulp Fiction. But Inglourious Basterds was his worst film so no He didn't deserved to win something that night.

  • sexiest best director ever

  • i love how at the end, they show all of the other directors who didn't win and are currently pissed off

  • the hurt locker and avatar both suck ass....inglourious basterds shouldve won everything

  • Having Barbra Streisand present was a dead give away that Bigelow was winning. Just like if they would have had Spike Lee present, it would have been blatantly obvious that Lee Daniels ways winning. Btw, if they really wanted to make a statement, they would have went with Daniels, seeing as he is gay as well as black.

  • James Cameron was probs like "..."

    Tarantino should of won...

  • why is james cameron pretending like "yeah, i'm really happy about kathryn, i actually couldn't be happier!" it's just pathetic.

  • akward if one of the two she didnt mention had won..

  • What a great speech. How admirable it was to humbly give credit to all of those people she worked with.

  • Look at what I assume is Lee Daniels' daughter @5:40, she looks pissed.

  • James Cameron Stand Up and was So Happy :O How Romantic

  • As much as liked The Basterds ,and Tarantino's works as a whole, i didn't think it was Oscar material

  • Hurt Locker is a truly fantastic film. Bigelow has made great films like Point Break, Near Dark (totally underrated vampfire film) etc.

Sorry for Tarintino who was also one of the best directors we've got, but she did deserve it!!

  • I hate how all the directors look so upset! Except for JC. Good for him. :)

  • I just noticed they played "The Way We Were" when Barbara walked out.

  • C'mon! INGLOURIOUS BASTERRRRRRRRRRRRDDDDDDDDDDDDRDDDDDDDDRDRDDDSSSS!!!

  • that was probably the most powerful directors category in a while. except for andy richter everyone made a spectacular movie. beating the best and her ex is probably the best fucking feeling in the world.

  • This is why the oscars are a joke. I'm not being sexist but really? Just because a women gets nominated for like the first time means they should win it? Ridiculous, You'll get that oscar one day Tarantino!

  • @ishotulol921 katheryn bigelow was not the first woman to get nominated, sofia coppola was the first american to get nominated. and there were two women of foreign descent to get the nomination before that.

  • @ishotulol921 Sofia Coppola got nominated once and didnt win and it was the 1st time a woman was nominated for best director

  • @ishotulol921 1. Tarantino has an Oscar (which he won for co-writing Pulp Fiction)

    2. Bigelow wasn't the first female nominee for Best Director

  • @ishotulol921 She's the fourth nominate woman. LOL!

  • @ishotulol921 "I'm not being sexist but..." Yes, your being sexist. You said it right with that statement.

  • @ishotulol921 she was actually the forth nominated. most recent being jane campion and sofia coppola. but i do agree streisand was kinda biased about it being a woman.

good on cameron, though. he's a good sport and glad 2 see he's not bitter about his ex and is actually happy 4 her

  • @ishotulol921 It wasn't the first time that a woman was nominated. Sofia Coppola was nominated in 2004 for Lost in Translation.

  • @ishotulol921 This was actually only the 4th time a woman had ever been nominated for Directing. In 82 years. It's a ridiculous statistic, and she absolutely deserved this.

  • @ishotulol921 she was the fourth woman to be nominated, and she deserved it. and this is from a tarantino fan.

  • totally agree with ya

  • @ishotulol921 This was the fourth time a woman was nominated.

I found it sexist when the band played "I am Woman" as she left with the Oscar... Pathetic. Like she's part of a movement or so.

  • @ishotulol921 It was not the first time, my friend, the very Barbra Streisand was herself nominated at least two times. And, I dont know if you'll agree with me, but I think Tarantino is not a Oscary director, just like Tim Burton, who I guess was never nominated...

  • wow, who was the cutie between them in the end?

  • haha james cameron is like: "what the fuck???it can't be"

i guess it's such a tragedy for him seeing the triumph of her ex wife haha :P

by the way i wish tarantino had won....

  • @chiamaligna Hahaha... QT would have had motormouthed away for his exceptence speech without Roger Avary ahving to monitor him. He would have loved it. The look on his face was one of resignation, that he didn't have a snowball's chance in hell to win. It would have been more interesting if he did. I liked The Hurt Locker, so I didn't think he was robbed. Re James Cameron - was relieved not to endure seeing him punch the air and say "I'm on top of the world".

  • Totally deserved. It was an amazing film and she did a fantastic job.

  • Barbra is like 'That should've been me... bitch.' xD Hahaha

  • Cameron is great but his Avatar crap is like a fuckin Disney movie without Donald Duck! So he doesn't deserved to win that. It's Either Bigelow or Tarantino.

  • how's it fair that the actor/actress nominees get these heartfelt speeches and then the directors get little dvd extra-like speeches.

  • Babs said "Shall I hold it?"

In other words "It should've been me, bitch!"

  • i dont think it was coincedence that barbra streisand presented that oscar

  • @peenabutta Nope. I'm guessing she went, "Hey if I can't be the first female directing Oscar winner, I'll be the one to present it to the first female directing Oscar winner!"

  • "Barber Streisand" What the hell!
