  • Love this interview. Vesta is just a joy to watch. She was such a hilarious, extremely talented and interesting woman. Love her! I'm so sad she passed. She was too underrated.

  • Loved her personality

  • RIP

  • She was so silly!! Rest in peace:(

  • I hate that they would block her success because of her size. She was so, so talented and gosh dog it, she was a damn beautiful, vivacious and funny woman! Beauty comes in many packages and this was a GORGEOUS woman!

  • I never even heard of her before until I saw her performing her song Congratulations on the Monique show. I got a chance to learn more about her from watching Unsung.

  • dam she is gorgeous. nice thickness....ooooweeee i LOOOOVVVEEE it

  • I think Jackee' drew her character "Sandra" from Vesta....look at the mannerisms and the antics. I wouldn't be surprised. I mean, they were best friends...

    RIP Vesta!

  • Such a beautiful, talented, funny woman. Phenomenal songstress. Sorely missed Ms. Vesta Williams.

  • RIP SISTER

  • I Love You VESTA!

  • lol, she silly, love it, she reminds me of my aunts, yea, she was awesome, good good spirit!!! we need more entertainers like her, 2day in 2011, please believe!!

  • RIP to our sista VESTA!!!

  • She is the real Jakkee!~ LOL!~ is this was not an act!~

  • Ha ha @ 3:00 ... She was a fool. So sorry she is gone.

  • LOVED IT.

  • Vesta use to sing behind Chaka Khan back in the day..I can see how here voice blended in real well with Chaka's

  • I was just watching this some months ago, laughing at how funny Vesta was, now she is gone.. truly will miss her music..R.I.P.

  • I don't know how Vesta did that with her mouth at 2:16? And that Jackee impressions she did? That made me laugh! I love her music! May her Rest In Eternal Peace.

  • I was so bummed when I read tonight that Vesta has died. I remember buying her 1996 "Vesta" album and loving it. Sure, she had the Chaka Khan phrasing and timbre but she also sounded like herself. (she sang backup for Chaka - and others - before going solo). To read that she died alone in at the Homestead hotel in El Segundo (close to LAX) with several bottles of prescription pills present, hit me hard. Another Michael Jackson, Heath Ledger, etc.

  • @Giderduikkelige It's hurt my heart as if I knew her personally boo. SMH I simply loved VESTA! Hearing some of these songs that I hadn't heard in years just brought back soooo many memories. Her harmonies gave me chills!!! I was just talking about VESTA with my mom a few weeks ago. I was saying how she sang back ground for CHAKA( you had to be the bomb to sing back up for CHAKA) and how she did those Sandra impressions. A funny, sexy, and I'll go as far as saying annointed lady. DANG!!!

  • We will miss you dearly, Vesta. R.I.P. :-(

  • R.I.P. VESTA:-(

  • whats vesta was saying is so true and its even worse now

  • @ jenja718, Vesta at one time was a back ground vocalist for Chaka, as like Me' Lisa Morgan, Audrey Wheeler, N'Dambi, Vicoria St. James, Lisa Fischer, etc who've went to solo careers (some sustaining and some one hit wonders). However Lisa is a great background/accompaniest singer. Highly sought after in the industry (long time Luther Vandross, Rolling Stones background singer. She's fierce). Funk This cd tour she had Toni Scruggs. Watch out, she fierce!!!! Tiffany, still on board and to watch!

  • i liked her to. but for some reason i always thought that she was the imitations of Ms. CHAKA KHAN....

  • I have to admit, I'm a 35 year old man and I remember when I was a kid, I had a crush on Vesta Williams. She just exudes beauty inside and out, and it don't hurt that she can SANG! Man, I miss watching Video Soul with Donnie Simpson back in those days. That was when we still had real music.

  • She's a true inspiration. She was so cool and down to earth. It's people like her who have wonderful talent.

  • CONGRATULATIONS.........

  • She is soooooo funny!

  • I remember this interview. You could tell Donny liked her.

  • The REAL VESTA!! Love Her So.

  • wow I miss the way BET used to be...it's a shame what it has become.

  • @my1rule

    I agree

  • omg...what a rack! and what a cleavage. i am hooked!

  • Love this womans voice. Too, bad she is proceeded by what is out there today --garbage. She is still making music but, none like she did back in the day. Vesta, get better people and come back strong.

  • @LegrandnjClassicSoul Jackie harry 2 and Tina turner lol

  • God, it seems so weird to watch this and think of it as old school when it seems not so long ago!!!!! I agree with the posters here about BET never having anything like this now. I don't know what happened to the music, but somewhere along the line I think the writers and the performers lost the emotion, personality, passion and reality of music. The whole Vesta 4U album utilizes all those qualities and I'm so glad to see this rare footage....thanks for posting

  • I love this lady, she is real, and she's got madd skills. I love how you do your do :oD

  • Powerful, poised, Beautiful, Outstanding,ect.....

  • Funny interview! I wonder what she's doing now?

  • She is funny! She act a lot like Jackie.

  • She behaves like the woman who played the mother in Sista Sista with Tia and Tamara.

  • She reminds me of Chaka when she speaks

  • Yeah she does.

  • Them was the good days! BET shattered a genere of music and audiences. I think they should be taken of the air TODAY

  • Agreed!

  • Sing the damn song girl!

  • Her first producers were Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. From the tone of the interview, I'm guessing she had some problems with them.

  • Vest and Jackee...separated at birth.....I didn't realize how horrible Donnie was as an interviewer. He could intro songs but sitting there and talking to singers---uuuggghhh!! Vesta is dropping dimes on this interview--Woooo!

  • Was that all her hair?

  • OMG!!! She's hilarious! Nothing more fun than a woman with sense of humor and ability to crack a joke. It's oh so rare. And all this time I thought she was just Big Sexy.

  • to me, I am a big fan of Vesta and Regina. In my book, they both can out sang mostly all of today's singer's that we have out as of now!

  • Vesta Williams...there oughta be more women like her in the world. Funny, sexy, talented and thick!

  • @NepperCat THERE U GO BROTHA! VESTA WAS A BEAUTIFUL SEXXY ASS MUTHA FUCKIN WOMEN.A BIG MAMA TOO.SHE MADE ME SEE THICK BBWS IN A BRAND NEW WAY.IM ALMOST 30 YRS DEEP IN LIKING WOMEN LIKE DAT SON.PEACE HOMIE.

  • @NepperCat

    Gottdamn right!

  • Singer Multi-Grammy Award Winner Regina Belle Can Still Sing Better Than Vesta In The Studio Or Live Check Regina Belle Out These Days She's Beautiful And Still Receiving So Many Accolades For Her Amazing Talent Today Where's Vesta Last I Heard She Was Window Shopping!!LOL

  • donnie rockin that notty azz afro! hahahahaha video soul where are you when we need you

  • I prefer fat vesta

  • she reminds me of jackee harry

  • I don't know who had the most hair Vesta or Chaka(lol

  • she wasn't lying about tina turner and her accent. chaka khan done went british too :(

  • Ha ha she's a trip.

  • I'll Never Forget The Day Vesta Said Regina Belle Sound Like Billie Holiday On Crack Look At Regina Belle Now!!! Her Career Has Gone Above And Beyond Vesta. CONGRATULATIONS REGINA BELLE!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • When did this EVER happen? I never heard this!!!

  • And then, as well as Regina sounded, when she came out with "Show Me the Way", and she DID sound horribly flat when she did that song live (the clip was up here somewhere)....so i actually fully agree with Vesta. Looking back, we sound how much better Regina got, but back then (just like now), MANY artists originally could not sing, and it's rather disappointing. YES, Regina redeemed herself, but Vesta was just REAL and it's unfair to fans to pay to see somebody who can't sing. Now? EVER WORSE!

  • Okay, i read the Essance interview and saw where Vesta was on BET and said what she said about Regina. Yeah, it was mean and I know they patched things up since then, but again, as beautiful as Regina's voice was, she did sound flat a lot of times. And Vesta is just a real ass person, so personalities like that clash lol. Kind of what I liked about Vesta, although her impersonations and criticisms of others (especially her black sisters) was wrong. Still, she's just real lol.

  • she reminds me of jackee harry

  • she acts like jackee or jackee acts like her. they have similar personalities.

  • these were the days when b.e.t was for adults as well as young adults.now its a kiddy show.

  • Man. Truer words were never written. I won't even watch anymore.

  • Luv Vesta

  • She and Jackee are very good friends from way back in the day.

  • Vesta was always sexy.... even when she was heavier. Some people are just like that.... some people just have it. I mean she was funny, smart, and multitalented. She is the kind of person that you fall for hard. But some men probably would not be able to handle her independant and free spirit. She speaks the truth 20 years before the true reality about entertainers. This is what she is... A true entertainer. The best part is she relishes in it. Talk about someone today's singers can learn from.

  • thats when BET was actually BET now its some damn whitewashed fake ass stuff now. 90% of those artists that are on BET are faking like they are urban and shit. They are all some white people in black people's bodies now and days.

  • amen. im young and i even agree to that

  • i agree with that also

  • kudos my moms talk about that all the time

  • Thank you. I want the old BET back.

  • @zodiak650 All THUMBS UP

  • @zodiak650 yeah I dont recognize BET any more I think the complaint back then was to have more variety like shows on social issues instead a lot of videos but still you knew BET was definately about us.no disrespect to BET but seem like now they trying to be a black carbon copy of a lot white shows you see on tv these days.nothin black and original

  • @zodiak650 YOU GOT THAT RIGHT....DEBRA LEE IS JUST A UNCLE TOM....

  • she remine me of kim cole.

  • To me in this interview she seems like a cross between chaka khan and jackee' from 227 at times 2;13 to 2;17 she acts goofy as hell might I add funny to with her up spirited self.

  • Got damn, her and Jackee act tha same [lol]... was just watching Sister, Sister and she played 'Monica' Jackee's sorority sister... how wild is that? lol...

  • I had the biggest crush on this GORGEOUS woman.

  • yea she was fine...funny too, now i see why she was on Comic View with Reynaldo Ray

  • How old is Vesta? Back when I was 14 watching this interview as it aired in 88 I thought she was 40-ish. But what do kids know about actually judging the ages of grown people, right? Now that I'm 20 years older, she looks really young, like in her mid-late 20s. btw, that is a great interview!! performers don't have that much personality anymore.

  • Actually you would have been correct in your assessment because even though Vesta was much younger than she looks here it was because of the style of makeup clothing and environment of the 80's. Everybody looked older than they actually were to cater to the baby boomer crowd. Us Generation Xers had not yet inundated the pop culture (see Hip Hop's influence nowadays). If you notice Whitney Houston's first videos she looked more mature than her 21 years.

  • dem was the days. I miss the OLD BET!!!

  • I actually remember this interview from all those years ago. Vesta is truly talented she probably could have been a comedian if her heart was in it.

  • Yeah, I remember this interview like it was yesterday. I could've sworn that was Jackee's sister because she looks like her and laughs like her.

  • I remember this interview. Vesta is a hoot.

  • Donnie could imo easily be a twin-brother of JT Taylor from Kool & The Gang.

  • She is silly to death. I always thought she was pretty.

  • maaan... vesta was always sexy as hell to me, even when i was a kid. jackee was too- so vesta doing a jackee impression is great to me. wooow @ her giving a real-for-real interview... most artists stay "safe", but she let it all out, lol.

  • Great interview ... i wish i could've seen those shows ... Donnie Simpson asks & makes good & sharp remarks.

I think it was never broadcasted here , unless the show is the Canadien "Soul In The City".

That was aired in the UK.

    Thanx 4 sharing Brownboykb.

  • Vesta 4 U LP....is great. I remember singing to it as a child ahhhhhhhh!

    Thxs for postingxxx!

  • I FRIGGIN LOOOOOOOOOOVE THIS WOMAN! VESTA IS AWESOME! Fantastic singer and very funny lady.

  • VIDEO SOUL! I Miss that show.
