  • Love the Kingston Trio but Led Zep shreds this song on Zep3

  • @glgioia - I love Zep's version, though it's a bit farther afield from the folok roots of the song. Plant and Alison Krauss have done it together in recent recordings and concerts in more of a folk style like this.

  • A masterpiece.Powerful singing and instrumentation.Thanks!

  • Check out Peter, Paul and Mary's version on YouTube... it's very different and absolutely haunting...

  • I remember someone had this record, and i used to play it alot when i was 13. I seem to remember a song with nonsenseacle lyrics, it would start of with a single accapella voice singing "Ominees la la la, ominees la la la" and then just take off jammin'. Had a lot of fun with that tune i remember.

  • @DerekBayRoberts1 - Good memory again Derek. The song was called "Uta Wena+ - it was an a capella round. Composers listed as Adam Yadogka and Nick Reynolds of the KT - appeared on the same album pictured. People aren't sure if the song is nonsense or poorly pronounced Tsonga, a small African dialect (I'd vote for the latter).

  • Right you are Derek. Look at the video notes that will take you to my blog post that has videos of the KT here, Leadbelly, and Zep doing the song.

  • Not alot of people know this, in fact i just now realized that Led Zeppelin covered this song and called thier version "Gallow's Pole"
