  • This is just like what the DeadHead said after two weeks of sobriety - "This music SUCKS!"

  • I used to live in Redwood City, close to Neil. Now, I am a music teacher, and if one of my students came to me with a recording such as this, I would say, "Go back and try again."

  • @keithhawkes Maybe it's you that sucks.

  • @keithhawkes What do they say about teachers? Those that can't, teach.

  • Great song on a sad day. Learned mom has lung cancer and it's spread...

  • hard to find, this

    Thanks to you my friend

  • *****

  • What was the tagline of the tour he did around this time? "Everything is cheaper than it looks"? great art-rock from one of our greatest artists.

  • A great growing-up song. Is this great singer versatile or what? Play this about four times and then be careful what you do. The spirit just might self-correct! Thx 4 the post. "We played all night, the price was right. Don't be denied."

  • the genius the legend the master the #1 world citizen -thanks Joe Yankee aka Shaky Deal- I miss you buddy- Hope to see you on the road - much love Robert

  • And there are other Neil Young albums that aren't very well known too, like "On The Beach".... it's very good also.

  • @angrygynecologist Yep. ON THE BEACH is one of my favorites. The title track is amazing, but I also love "Ambulance Blues." Really, they're all good--I like "See the Sky About to Rain," "Vampire Blues" and "Revolution Blues." Even "Motion Pictures" is good, and the others are on Decade, so you know they're classic.

  • Just learning about this computer music thing, I have Time Fades Away on vinyl, and have been dearly missing this song for many years. Been a Neil fan since my older sister brought home Harvest, I then went to college and was introduced to his other gems. Thanks for making a 53 year old lady happy tonight!!

  • love this album. it's #17 on my bernard shakey list followed by rust never sleeps, harvest and moon, greendale, ny and clazy horse, after the gold rush, prairie wind, le noise, and. . .aw forget it neil's just great all the way back beyond the buffoonalos.

  • Simply awesome.. Xcellent song from a golden period of music creation.. It makes me feel happy and sad at the same time.. God, it is so good !!!

  • First song I ever learned on guitar at 16 years old... back in 1973.

  • I have this album and On The Beach on vinyl, got luck at yard sales. Two other songs that need hearing, "Days That Used To Be" and "Without Rings". Two sleepers if ever there were....

  • @mrghin22 Just found Hawks and Doves in the collection, forgot about that one

  • I got it on vinil in perfect condition. How fucking cool is that?

  • @NuddaAF73 super cool, i'd give you $50 in a second, much more if i wasn't broke!

i swear, i'm 38, none of this was out on cd in our day, but me and a couple freinds found a way to get bootleg copies and we consider this and on the beach to be among the best albums ever recorded. in a way it's kinda cool he made it an obscure cult thing. god bless neil young and these albums.

  • @jomolunga.....don't let her get away. Could be a soul-mate!!

  • @JimAdsit Do it! listening to Neil Young will get you thru times of no sex, better than sex will get you thru times of no Neil Young... probably.

  • slackerno im a neil head thanks old mate

  • More words of wisdom here than I received my entire childhood. For all those parents listening, (me included), press repeat and listen hard ...

  • By far Neil's most undderated album.....Might say Reactor is next on that list.

  • @lwplwp either this or on the beach

  • @lwplwp I like On the Beach as well but it actually had a "hit" single on it.....Love Paranoia Blues....."I hear that Laurel Canyon is full of famous stars....But I hate them worse than lepers and I'll kill them in their cars".......It also had the neatest inside cover of the LP around.

  • ooh. this brings back memories!!!

  • Just got the vinyl for 10 bucks at a local record shop "burger records" in Fullerton CA. Still had the insert and plays fine.... those suckers now its all mine!!!!

  • Thanks needed to hear that

  • what tuning hes using here please ?

  • No, I wonder what it is if you are lyiing on your back in grade school and thinking what the F... This ain't supposed to be like this... Denied freedom TO be on the positive side of life

  • That ol' boy went to serious lengths to twist our image of him with this album, On The Beach, and Tonight's The Night. Took it away from the bright lights and slickness and got in the gutter. Saw this tour open in Milwaukee and he still had Kenny Buttrey from the Gators. As ragged as could be and we were all better for it.

Most of all NEIL was better for it.

  • I met a girl the other night who totally schooled me on the greatest Neil songs of all time. She told me to listen to this one and "The Bridge". I was completely taken aback by her pulling out two "Time Fades Away" songs. She might just be the most perfect girl I've ever met!

  • @jomolungma now this story is song material ...the girl and the golden sound..just listened to the whole album on vinyl yesterday....the WHOLE album is CLASSIC...yep, she knows

  • @jomolungma You're a lucky guy.

  • @jomolungma I was AT this concert live in San Diego Ca ! 1973 One of his Best Albums ! I'm in the crowd on the cover ! David Crosby fell off his stool and got carried off stage during the last Dance !

  • @reveland82 Except that the cover of TFA was taken from the stage of The Spectrum, in Philadelphia......

  • @jomolungma marry her - she's a gem in my books ;)

  • @jomolungma Wife Her! Right Now!

  • @jomolungma hang on to her bro..there arent too many chicks out there thats are down to earth enough to listen to neil..

  • @jomolungma In 1975 my boyfriend, Marc, did the same for me. Neil Yongs music stayed with me ever since.I still love it. Many other bands have come and gone but Neil is constant.

  • I want this album!

  • I have it on vinyl,priceless,

  • old friend of mine, don't be denied

  • Written after Danny Whitten's death in 1972. Kinda an autobiographical song... reflective of where Neil had been...

    Peace.

  • Long live Joe Yankee, Shaky Deal, aka Neil "Harvest Moon" Young

  • Cant stop listening to this .Havent heard it for years. Many thanks for posting.

  • Will this album ever be released on cd without having to buy whole archives deal.A brilliant underrated album in its day.

  • I've got the original vinyl album,a bit scratched but hey it's nearly 40 yrs old, this is one of neil's classics!! 500*

    thanks for the send veluby!

  • You're welcome, my friend :)

  • Don't be denied has a stark atmosphere of darkness but the lyrics, read w/o music, come off positive. Neil's dark but he usually shows some daylight. My favorite of all time, along with The Replacements.

  • I remembe geting Time Fades away... Snak eyes, frech fries; and I got lots of gas.

    Kick ass then and now.

    Golden sound

  • Long denied record which is real as the day is long to quote Neil. Everything from Buffalo Springfield to Decade was perfectly off pitch and great. I don't think any one artist can do over 10 straight years of greatness as Neil did.

  • Canada's contribution to music is immense, Neil of course is a living legend - The Band - nobody could touch them (ok, Levon was from the USA !!, but a great guy) - totally unique. Yes, thank you Canada.

  • Is there only a live version of this on Time Fades Away or is it on any studio albums? Please someone let me know thanks.

  • "Time Fades Away" is a live album of original material. It's not on any other studio album.

  • Oh ok, thanks. That's a shame as it's so hard to get a hold of that album, as I'm sure you're already aware.

  • Canada loves you Neil ; and for Helpless and others you too Joni, Jamie, Garth, and the two late --RIP --Richards of course ............and many others, Canuckleheads or not

  • Favorite Neal Jam Tune,,,Rock On Speedo;;

  • you could've spelt his name right..

  • Promo copy of the mega-rare "Time Fades Away" CD is available from UK Amazon site. For some reason the CD was pulled by Warner Bros. Why don't they release it...?

  • this album needs to heard on vinyl only

  • it was a dark time for neil

  • Another great song by Neil and it's his personal history which is a peek we don't usually get from guarded Neil. Punches came fast and hard in the school yard. This CD foreshadows the harsh light of Tonights the Night

  • This is a great, great song. I had to buy the LP on Ebay a few years ago. I don't know if it's on CD.

  • Neil's music speaks to me with a clarity unlike anything i have ever heard, almost like a soundtrack for everything that occurred during my life.

  • favorite neil ditch song. ez 2 play, but when i start singing my kids tell me 2 shut up. NY is the force.

  • Viva Neil

  • Hey, what BURNS my butt I had the video CSNY tour 1974, saved it was taken off YouTube !!That video was GREAT from the 1974 tour!!PUT it back on!Everyone ask for it to be put back ON It would be GREAT!! Bring "Don't Be Denied" from the CSNY 1974 tour back! Everyone should have the chance to see this !! Bring it back, Everyone join in!! DON'T DENY others the joy of this classic piece of ROCK video history for all to enjoy!! I have faith it WILL magically reappear, yes?? THANKS!!

  • dont be denied wendy

  • hahahah

  • thats my name and I keep that in mind!

  • Comment removed

  • I think I lost my virginity during this song. I WAS NOT denied!!!!

  • That's nice.

  • WOW.

I''ve been a fan for a log time, that is a GREAT version of this clasic..

  • Hell, its the only version.

  • joe yankee is neil young

  • Is the song, Look Out Joe, dedicated to, Joe Yankee?

Neil played that song at the, Time Fades Away, concert.

  • look out joe refers to 'GI-joes' coming home from Vietnam

  • I'm soooo happy I bought this on VINYL in the 70's!!! GREAT LP BY A GREAT ARTIST!

  • Will they ever release this on a CD? I believe it's the only album of his not to be put out on CD....

  • This is an amazing song that inspires nostalgic emotions ( I used to live in Canada-Winnipeg). Thank you so much for uploading this masterpiece.

  • One of Neil's greatest albums. Raw energy in the playing and emotion from his voice.

  • goin to see him at brisbane in 2 weeks cant wait!!!!!!!!!!!! o yeah u rock neil!

  • All those silly bastards on YouTube who think that "Heart of Gold" is Neil's best song don't know what they're missing.

  • yeh ur right... fuck dem...

  • I agree with enwurds, but it made me laugh when I saw the reply comment. lol.

  • Classic rock!

  • "And I'm a pauper in a naked disguise. A millionaire through a businessman's eyes."

  • Those opening chords! The call of the open road.

  • @sallygal7

Yeah, as simplistic as they are they come back between the verses and you can't help but reflect on your own life after digesting the lyrics. It's a happy-go-lucky melancholy two chord progression full of introspective reflection...okay, now I'm over analyzing it...fucking great tune, love the rawness and realness.

  • I wanted to hear this song again for years.couldn't find it on rhapsody. You have done me a great favor.

  • this is such a great song ...maybe his most straight up autobiographical lyric...and how about that steel guitar?

  • cant believe i found this!!thank you for posting.any OFFICIAL word on time fades away being released with the archives? we`ve been waiting forever!!!!!

  • Someone uploaded a live 1974 CSNY version of this truculent masterpiece, but it seems to have been taken down. No idea where the footage came from, but my guess is that it will show up on Volume 2 of the "Archives" boxed set.

  • Probably only a matter of time before i get the call to pull it off too, till then, enjoy!

  • It was from Wembley Stadium in London. Joni Mitchell joined in on the chorus. It was amazing! Wish it was still up.

  • The Keeper of the Flame is such an exceptional artist; we are lucky to have had his presence for five decades. The trick: stay a child.

  • CAPOLAVORO!

  • good to hear stuff i listened to 30 years ago over and over i love it

  • I listen this song when I was 10 years and I stil love it the same!!!

  • Glad you enjoying it, amazing what the imic can do!. check out the video elsewhere on youtube with Neil doing this with CSN, Top stuff.

TFA is one of the best he's done i think, in his top 10 anyway!

  • There should be some way to filter out the wannabes to get to the real artists.

  • Interesting that a search for this song leads to about 12 covers - and you have to try so hard to find the ACTUAL song. Pretty annoying.

  • People have been searching a long time for this one buddy.

  • Nah man...Neil Young...maybe he'll never be as popular as those other bands, but he'll always be a living legend as far as people who understand true genius...that's why a song like this that isn't "popular" is covered so much...true musicians and true fans know what a genius he is.

  • Amen brother.

  • Mah favourite Neil Young song. Thanks Flor!!

  • Great song

    Thanks!!!! :)
