hahaha that was on purpose, he flies that route 10 times a day i bet and knows it very well. just fuckin around with the passengers, or showing off to the crows.
Worked in the oil patch for several years. Bush pilots can do this kind of thing any day. It's the civie pilots, who get twitchy at the sign of a tree or a rock that scare the begeebies out of me.
@CrazyCessnaPilot Skill? no it's not actually, nothing difficult about it at all if you have relatively basic commercial pilot handling skills, it is however extremely dangerous and totally unnecesssary. An out of ground effect cushion creep to get to translation is more difficult than this but doesn't look as good and doesn't boost the pilots ego as much!
Amazing as a student pilot I can only say.. AMAZING!!! Thanks for your service, this Country is in need of Pilots like yourself, capable of taking the game to a whole new level! Any advice on what books to read? My e-mail is: salgadoguilherme@hotmail.com
@nigelregan Yes I am a pilot, I do know better, and I stand behind my comment. Your supposed level of experience should have prevented you from making useless comments on the internet.
@nowthisis2stupid Hey Jonny, for someone as safety conscious as you are with your guns why would you think it is acceptable for a chopper pilot to fly like a mad man? It is absolutely neccessary that pilots apply good judgement in applying their skill to their trade, the same as you do in your firearms handling skills, if they did our industry would be all the better for it, I've been to one too many funerals and the accident statistics speak for themselves brother! You a drummer too? snap!
@nigelregan Correct, I think safety is first but I do think it would be a wild ride. I have also seen a lot of videos showing accidents in helicopters, I see how easy it is to loose control and I completely understand, respect and agree with your point of view.
@eljefe808 unusual attitude recovery has nothing to do wih altitude (AMSL) it is relative to height AGL, otherwise it wouldn't be a hazard due to nil risk of CFIT and it's very difficult to achieve CFIT above 500AGL.
@eljefe808 yeah I agree, I think it was overdone, I admit it does look exciting but honestly mate it is extremely dangerous, what that pilot did it isn't particularly difficult to do, smoothly creeping out of ground effect to ETL using only hover power is far more difficult but looks nowhere near as exciting, the excitement soon stops if you have to recover from an unexpected emergency. Not meaning to be a kill joy, just been to one too many funerals that's all!
@KaHOnas ETL is reached at 11Kts and can easily be achieved by cushion creeping out of ground effect which he clearly had the power to do based on his lift off. Nose diving at 110Kts with high ROD and extreme pitch down attitude gave this pilot absolutely no escape route and assured certain death for all on board and whoever was unfortunate enough to be in the way on the ground in the event of an emergency landing.
@nigelregan I am a " fixed wing "( airplane ) mechanic and only got a basic, brief 1-hour lecture on " moving wing " aircraft( helicopters ) during my 2-years in aircraft technician school BUT I still think this pilot has alot of flying skill and " balls " to excecute a maneuver like that ! ....LOL !
@doctoristina Wow. I got an entire section of class devoted to helis, much more than a 1 hour lecture. Actually, we touched on helis in 3 different classes, all general stuff, though, like aerodynamics, recip & turbine engine theory, and aircraft nomenclature.
During our labs, we got to practice on a Huey we have in our maintenance hangar at the school I went to (Tx. State Technical College, Waco).
I work at L-3 in Waco, mostly modifying P-3s, structures & sheetmetal stuff, which I love!
Slightly agressive, but not an uncommon and prefered method for coming off terrain like that. What most see as wreckless, the experienced mountain pilot sees as simply risk management. Move along people, nothing to see here.
@decathalon22 oh really! so what risk was he managing? there are many options for getting through to tranlsation from an LZ like that and this is absolutely the last one that should be used and in fact should be avoided at all costs outside of the military.

@nigelregan i thought pilots did it because of ETL. but it seems like that drop was overly done

Gotta get through ETL somehow, and when you have no power margin at high altitudes that may be the only way you can get moving.
Still, pretty awesome to watch and even awesomer (that's right) to do.
