@24raidernation There are no seasons in Minecraft. The ice is forming because he's located in a snow biome. The reason there's no snow is because he began that world in beta 1.8, where snow biomes were temporarily removed, but the temperature and humidity levels in that area were that which would typically constitute a snow biome. Now that snow biomes are possible again, the water's freezing. As soon as there's some precipitation in his game, it will cover the area in snow.

Mike the ice is coming because in the new 1.1 update the biomes have changed and you're in an older world so your biome is now supposed to be a winter biome.
